I hope you realise this type of thread, regardless of your intentions, is only going to exacerbate the disgust that some people harbor towards Chinese culture based on the reporting of isolated incidents.
|
With little to no effort anyone can pull even worse stuff coming out of the US, dont really undestand what is people fascination with China´s dirt.
|
I lived in China for 15 months teaching English, and I can vouch for it being a pretty terrible place.
However, I don't really see how this is worth a thread any more than the bleeding toddler.
|
Ever since i started watching the news and reading newspapers, i learned that this stuff happens all the time in the US too. But you know people these days, they love to point fingers.
Hell their was this family the other day who locked up 5 disabled people in their basement and would take their disability checks.
|
That's not as surprising as you think it is.
Crazy people are everywhere, doing crazy things. This site makes it seem like the Chinese are worse but remember that there are over 1 billion (1.339 B) of them.
So for a canadian like me it makes us look like chorus boys until you remember/calculate that for every canadian there are 45 chinese persons.
It's statistics.

What is this thread's purpose?
|
Tbh, people in the US are afraid of what China represents.
|
It's the US and as it seems to me a little lesser extent Western "propaganda machine" that is making China the "new" enemy...
As it seems, it's working because people start to search this stuff themselves....
|
this is not a chinese problem.
everywhere in the world you have parents who abuse their children and men who beat up their wife every day.
and that food shenanigans you posted is nothing new. for example it happens quite often that people find dead animals in their food and other disgusting stuff
it just feels like you try to demonize China

It's because like to feel morally superior to others. I'm starting to realize that people get off on that. If you isolate all the bad incidents, you make any country look bad.
And the fact there are more Chinese people than any other people on the Earth guarantees that they have more lunatics than anywhere else.

It may seem counter-intuitive, but the purpose of this thread was to question the purpose of every other "Horrible News from China" thread. In my opinion, there's so much shit going on, it's just not worth making a new thread about it every time.

...well nobody's perfect, right?
What you people need to understand is that behind the shiny concrete jungles of major cities and despite the modernity the Chinese government shows, most of China is still a third world country. Shit is going to happen because people are stupid, people are animals, traditional values are outdated, etc, etc.
I guarantee you there's 10x as much horrible shit going on in Africa completely unreported because Africa's just poorer and more backwards than China. This isn't to justify the shit going on in China, it's just true. There's no point in posting all the shit here, it doesn't make any difference. There are deeper issues at hand than these individual events that make it into the media due to their shock value.

I do agree with most of the posters so far in here that this thread should be closed. The OP doesn't seem to have a frame of reference, saying that this stuff "happens all the time" in China.
It would be pretty offensive to him if I made an analogous thread compiling terrible events that occurred in the US.
|
Not that it gives China a reason, but could you find any location where crap do not happen? I'm pretty sure every society has its problems.
Philly police: Disabled victimized by theft scheme Girl, 9, tells cop she drove van because Dad was drinking Landlord finds mentally disabled people locked in basement; 3 arrested Kent student may have been dead for days
Some US headlines I found from a minute of cnn and google news search. Most news headlines at the moment are politics based.

This was my thought exactly. When I was in Europe I was annoyed by people coming up to me and saying hey did you here about X you Americans are crazy! Then I had to explain to them that the US is a huge diverse country of course there will be a ton of crazy stories. And China is even larger, so yeah this doesn't surprise me at all.

No eh? I knew something felt wrong when I typed that.
Ok, Edited.

I think we should elect a new country every month and find as many terrible articles as possible to make us hate them. Sort of like a Flavor of the Week kind of thing.
Wasn't it Russia a little while ago? And it's always been the U.S. too? And stuff in the Middle East?
Yeah, this shit is everywhere. China is bad, everywhere's bad. I'm sure a Google search for "bad news *somewhere* " will net you something.
Or maybe we could do the exact same thing... with good news!

Why don't you create a thread called "Horrible News around the World" then? What if some horrible news from Africa and Middle East start to pop in General Section? Are you going to create "Horrible News from Iraq" "Horrible News from Sudan" threads?
