I have a Core i5 2500k at normal clock speed with an HD 6850 GPU. I can play SC2 on Ultra just fine but my FPS is around 20 at some points, but when I look at my CPU its only using 30% if not less. Is my GPU bottlenecking me or do I need to mess around with the BIOS to get max performance from my computer?

GPU and CPU should be fine. What RAM do you have? That's also a potential bottleneck.

Your CPU has 4 cores, Starcraft2 don't take full advantage of 2 cores. That's why you see it using 30%.

Also if you running a stream while playing starcraft2, your fps will be cut in half, atleast that how it is for me.

Im not streaming, but i think I should be getting Higher FPS with this computer

You should be getting better FPS with that computer. What else do you have running? What's your power plan set to? For some effing moronic reason, I think it defaults to balanced, so you could be getting throttled there.

Are you doing enough stuff at once to be hitting the page file? That can cause performance problems as well.

You should use some temp meter to test if your cpu or gpu is throtling, use HWmonitor to record max temps so you know you are fine there. Also off course get the latest gpu drivers from amd site.

Where do I change it from balance to performance? All I have open is SC2 and the internet (and some gadgets I guess). I have 8GB of RAM also. My temps are fine, but what is throttling. (Temps at like 37-40C)

I've noticed audiodg.exe claiming up to 15% CPU when a game is running, not sure if that has anything to do with that though. My comp is older than yours and it sometimes drops to 30 FPS on Ultra settings but that's as low as it will go.

Assuming that you're not running in a ridiculous resolution and all your load temps are fine (you didn't say whether that was CPU, GPU, idle or loaded), the only remaining option I can think of is that you're playing games with a very high unit count. The 2500k is fast but you can still get it down to 20fps with enough units.

It may help if you describe exactly what's happening and in what types of games.

It doesnt really lag just for some reason goes from 20 to 80 or bounces sometimes with the FPS. Nothing is wrong with it I was just wondering if it was normal to reach those lower FPS.

Does like lagging for webpages and sc2 ie. typing appearing seconds after you type, related to CPU performance issues. I'm not running hot or anything it just appears slow to me

No, that's a different sort of problem. AV software would be the prime suspect.

If I close Firefox or Starcraft it doesn't happen anymore. It seems like it only happens when the computer is under stress...

Well I have open firefox and sc2 now and it seems to be fine. Idk what was happening earlier...

EDIT:: It happens when I open a stream like it cant handle SC2 plus a stream.
