The site for the new format GSTL is up, and the price is $25 (VOD with ads) or $40 (VOD without ads). I'll assume the first price in the next part.
The price of a month-long GSL season is $10, while the price of a previous GSTL season (4 days) is $5.

The new GSTL does last two and a half months, making the price seem reasonable initially, but the GSTL is only two days a week of Starcraft. You'll still be paying for three days a week times one month of GSL while the GSTL is going on. The GSL that's $10 was six days a week of content for most of its duration, this will have many fewer broadcasted games for its length. The feeling of 'matches that count' won't even happen except towards the end of the group play and in the finals which themselves are shorter than previous GSTLs. In short, I feel $25 for this GSTL format is very expensive relative to the established price of $10 for a full month's content.
It will also mean an increase in total cost per year to watch all of the GSL as I assume the new GSTL season replaces two old GSTL seasons in the schedule.
Also compressing six days of GSL into three days will either mean a ton of extra work for the casters each day or not broadcasting some games (unless I don't understand the schedule so the GSL may feel expensive too if it stays at $10.

Yeah, this seems a bit high, especially with ads. NASL was only 25 bucks for the entire season, 5 days a week, no commercials.

Why can't they just set up a monthly subscription for access to all the GSL content? I'm getting tired by them charging people for every event they host.

The usual GSTL before this has only been seven matches.
The new GSTL, league format, will have thirty seven counting the playoffs.
Price is steeper, but you get thirty more matches and get to see F.United with Thorzain/Naniwa and FXO.

I'm not arguing a higher price is unreasonable, I'm arguing it's out of proportion compared to the price for the normal season length and price of GSL.

In some ways I feel that this increase in price is due to the FXO being there as well as Thorzain and naniwa playing, kind of milking the foreign scene lol?

40 is a ridiculous price, 25 however is more reasonable and given the quality of entertainment the GSTL has produced in the past it doesn't seem like too much to pay.

I was thinking the same thing. This post helps keep things in perspective. It's well worth the cost.

GSTL was expensive compared to GSL at $5 too, it's just that the concentrated excitement made it feel worth it.

I would probably be willing to pay up to 50$ with ads..
I need my GSL fix, so for me it's a non issue.
