TeamLegacy (TL GW2 Guild) Has a short chat with "qxc"
Fan Club located here.
Hey guys, I know we have a bunch of fans here, so as asked, I'm going to post the interview we had with qxc here for your 5 minute enjoyment.
It's one of the first we did of many, so ahead of time, we apologize for any mistakes.

We had the chance to have a chat with "qxc", a SC2 Progamer known for his aggresive tactics and ever-suprising strategies used in the competitive scene. He was the first to develop many of the strategies used even today in Starcraft 2, such as "Ghost First" Terran build. He has played in a large number of tournaments since his start in Starcraft BroodWar, and since has made quite a name for himself. He is currently part of the E-Sports team "FXO" and spends his days streaming and putting the finishing touches on his more successful openings, such as his 1 Rax/Rauder build.
On to the questions.
Freelancer:
A while ago, you were streaming pretty frequently with a unique style of interaction with your viewers where you would talk to them as they pm you in-game using it as a chat channel. You mentioned that by doing this, you were training yourself from distraction as what it would be like at MLG. Has it improved your focus lately with the latest MLG? Do you plan to continue your stream?
qxc:
There have been a number of other things to work on and do to prepare for mlg so I'm not entirely sure if streaming the way I do is getting me extra prepared or not. Now that school is over I will be streaming much more.
Freelancer:
I will be watching for sure It is well known that your aggressiveness is your strongest trait, what aspect of your play do you find the weakest and do you aim to improve it or make up for it with aggressiveness?
qxc:
My macro generally is weaker than the rest of my play particularly when I'm trying to be aggressive. If I negatively affect my opponent's macro by attacking them then it's not as relevant whether or not my macro has slipped as well. either way it's something I'm working on.
Freelancer:
Are all of your aggressive moves calculated attacks, or do you simply decide at one moment that you need to be aggressive and search for any opportunity to pressure your opponent?
qxc:
Most of the attacks are spur of the moment kind of things as I take in the situation and attack when a good opportunity arises.
Freelancer:
You've been exploring some unknown territory with reaper openings and late-game reaper play. Are these strategies designed to catch your opponent off guard or make them uneasy, or are these strategies viable even when the opponent understands what is happening and what you're trying to do?
qxc:
These strategies are my answer to an excessive gas buildup in TvP as well as the need to harrass and apply pressure against protoss. Obviously surprise helps but they're designed to be standard strategies that stand alone even when the opponent knows what's going on.
Freelancer:
Well thought out. On the same topic, you have been using nukes somewhat as well, how viable do you think they are?
qxc:
Nukes are cheap and a relatively low investment. The main problem with them is remembering to use them and actually making sure they're effective and not just an attention sink. They're good and we'll be seeing more of them in the future.
Freelancer:
It's always exciting to see nukes in competitive SC2. FXO made an announcement not too long ago regarding their team house in Kuala Lumpur. Do you have any plans to move there once it becomes available in July/August?
qxc:
I'm not sure. I'm planning on going to Korea this summer and have school in september so I don't know how that would all work.
Freelancer:
As a terran, what is your opinion on the recent patch by blizzard? In particular the changes to the thor and bunker?
qxc:
The nerf to ThorZaIN seems unnecessary and rather silly as it seems like an attempt to further negate the usefulness of strategies that aren't bio against protoss. The bunker change is 'meh'. Not good or bad I guess. The other changes seem pretty nice for terran. warp gate delay as well as the infestor speed nerf.
Freelancer:
Understood. Players often say terran tier 1 units are imbalanced (the marine), do you think there is a grain of truth in this statement?
qxc:
That depends a lot on what you define 'imbalance' as. The marine has the amount of strength that all the units in the game should have. If ravens were as useful as marines the game could be a lot more interesting. Maybe ravens are and we havn't figured it out yet but I don't really see it. Marines are a simple unit with a lot of room to make effective with good positioning and micro.
Freelancer:
I see, we could talk about balance all day, so we'll save that for another time. In many of your photos, you are seen with a bandana. What is the secret behind your attire?
qxc:
It keeps my hair out of my eyes.
Freelancer:
Hah, Fair enough. What events can we expect to see you attend in the coming summer months? Are there any particular opponents you look forward to meeting again?
qxc:
I'll definitely be at columbus. Beyond that I'm not sure. As far as specific opponents... I'm looking to prove myself now that I'm back in the scene again. I hope to play strong opponents and defeat them to show that.
Freelancer:
Do you have any words of experience for an aspiring professional gamer? What sort of reality checks do they need to make?
qxc:
The road is long. The road is hard. People will laugh at you. People will think what you're trying to do is a joke but if you want to be a pro gamer you can. Nobody said it would be easy. Practice and focus. relax and train. Persistence is critical to overcoming 'walls' and 'plateaus' in skill. GL HF
