I could not find any thread about this epic game and thought it deserved one!!!

The second installment in the RPG saga about the Witcher, Geralt of Rivia, features a thoroughly engrossing, mature storyline defining new standards for thought-provoking, non-linear game narration. In addition to an epic story, the game features an original, brutal combat system that uniquely combines tactical elements with dynamic action.
A new, modern game engine, responsible both for beautiful visuals and sophisticated game mechanics puts players in this lively and believable world. A captivating story, dynamic combat system, beautiful graphics, and everything else that made the original Witcher such a great game are now executed in a much more advanced and sophisticated way. This game looks FUCKING SICK!!! Honestly can't wait!

I remember when about a year ago I decised to buy DA:O as my first game with my new computer and later regretted it hardcore after I realized how much better The Witcher would be. Luckily got both the game and first book as a Christmas present.

Was going to get Dragon Age 2, then I realized they took out Isometric View and gave it PS2 graphics, so I'm abandoning that for this. Looks freaking amazing too.

Also looks far more mature than the story from DA:O, which consisted (at least to me) of a childs storybook. Plus there are SHEATHES! This always bothered me in RPG's, swords would just float on people's backs.

I preordered it a couple weeks ago and I'm waiting for this more then Dragon Age 2 for instance. The mythology of the series is so awesome and much better written then Dragon Age (then again it had a lot of time fleshing out in the original books), even though the worlds of these two series are really similar. The story in the first Witcher was one of the best of modern RPGs. The nonlinear system in quests made the story to be like Mass Effect - before Mass Effect was even made. This 2nd one seems to loan more from Mass Effect.

Even though there were some seriously stupid decisions in gameplay in the first Witcher, it seems like those have been changed for better. The fact that there is actually usable loot like Diablo and the fact that the fighting looks a lot better then the melee QTE fighting in the first Witcher gives me geek chills. I seriously would put this high on your list if you like RPGs, because this looks as awesome as it can get.

I loved the first one so looking forward to this. I should get round to reading the books. I heard they were good.

With the direction Bioware is taking with DA2, this game looks about 100x more promising.

Played the first game, loved it. Been hyped about this game since last year, can't wait. It comes out in May 2011, which is a good time between Dragon Age 2 and Skyrim :D

Everything I've seen or heard about the upcoming DA2 made me realize how crappy the game will most likely be. I can only hope it will somehow improve on some of the shortcomings of the first Dragon Age the kind people at tl.net listed earlier. I was hoping for a "spiritual successor" to the Baldur's Gate franchise, what I got was the complete opposite - all the meanigful elements of BG2 removed or significantly dumbed down - the story, the characters (antagonists mostly), the quests, the inventory system, the items, the classes, the races, the monsters (all 5 of them), the magic system - all falling short of my expectations.

Witcher 2 is the game I put my hopes in and I'm sure it won't dissapoint me the same way DA did (and probably DA2 will do). People who made this game know what real RPGs are about.

By far my most anticipated game for this year.

The first one had plenty of flaws, yet for some reason i LOVED it. I hope they can improve upon what they had but not lose what made the Witcher so good.

I have to agree fully. I mean, I don't want to turn this into a DA:O hate thread but what I got from that story was

"You were exiled for X reason from your people, now you seek redemption in the mysterious Grey Wardens. Oh fuck, we lost the major battle, now it's up to YOU and your whiny yet snarky companion Alistar (whom are the two last Grey Wardens coincidentally) to muster up an army and redeem the Grey Warden's name and yourself! Then you have the final battle where you fight the dragon on the castle top, sacrificing yourself for the greater good of the world"

It sounds like something I would read to a 5 year old. Not to mention, even if you did sacrifice your character, Bioware just decided to find a way to retcon you dying because some people complained they didn't want their character to die like that. So you are instantly resurrected because "The maker did not feel it was your time yet"

What the fuck Bioware. So that entire Morrigan side thing was a complete waste, since you retconned the entire thing of you having to die at the very last second?

I can only agree - the first one was bugged, annoying in certain aspects, the story was poorly told and had some major flaws. The game had serious issues and yet I loved it, we all did. Why? Because it's the closest thing to a real RPG we've gotten for almost a decade.

Btw OP should add the official Witcher 2 site on the OP. There is some really cool videos about the game and engine.

With how annoying some of the Witcher 1's gameplay was (lol QTE) I'll definitely be renting/torrenting before I buy.

Call me crazy but I'm skeptical as to whether or not this will come anywhere close to the hype surrounding it.

People who've liked the story in the game would probably also enjoy the actual books by Andrzej Sapkowski. I just had to pick those books up after I finished the game. I most say that I thoroughly enjoyed them. Even though only 2 of them has been translated into english.

I hope that this sequal won't dissapoint, and from what I've seen they seem to have improved upon a lot of things.

Looks very promising, first one was very good although plot was quite weird at least if you read books. Later on, I found that game is not connected to storyline from books. If you like the game and you will ever get chance to read book, do it, it's one great piece of fantasy writing.

This game looks very good and solid. One of my friends played the first one and enjoyed it very much. I myself have yet to try the series but am looking forward to it.
