The first one had plenty of flaws, yet for some reason i LOVED it. I hope they can improve upon what they had but not lose what made the Witcher so good.
I can only agree - the first one was bugged, annoying in certain aspects, the story was poorly told and had some major flaws. The game had serious issues and yet I loved it, we all did. Why? Because it's the closest thing to a real RPG we've gotten for almost a decade.
Well, the first installment of The Witcher being referred to as 'Planescape: Torment of this decade' is no small thing. I only wish there was FPP camera available.
Why am I not surprised that the first few posts compares the DA franchise to the Witcher. Then again, the two sides have been butting heads for quite some time now... so yeah.
Anyways. thank goodness I have enough money stored away to get this and DA2.

Well that's a good thing. The gameplay was getting a bit repetitive. This will be the next game I buy.

Also looks far more mature than the story from DA:O, which consisted (at least to me) of a childs storybook. Plus there are SHEATHES! This always bothered me in RPG's, swords would just float on people's backs.
110% agree. I just played Dragon Age 2 demo, it is just a joke compared to Witcher 2.

I watched TotalBiscuits playthrough (couldn't be bothered downloading the demo) and I was like, previous gen graphics? AMG console interface (tears eyes out) no friendly fire (atleast in the demo) and no more isometric view really makes me skip this game no matter how good the storytelling is.
As for The Witcher 2, I am sure it's gonna be awesome! And I love the fact that CD projekt red is boasting how their graphics are better than DA2. I hope this game gives us enough replayability to play till 11 11 11 SKYYYYRIM!

Yep, most anticipated game of the year for me without a doubt.
It looks awesome, can seriously not wait for this.
I can only echo what people have said in this thread before me. Dragon Age 2 and Skyrim doesn't look too interesting. This game is one of the few I am looking forward to this year.

well knowing Bethesda games I am pretty sure that I can say that I will play this game for the great story and that I will play Skyrim for the awesome world and possibilities. Dragon Age can kiss my ass I allready didnt like the first part that much it is just not free enough
I played the first one but never finished it. It was alright, I didnt think it was amazing like a lot of people suggested it was. Some things bothered me, the combat system, loot and night and I must admit, the east-European style didn't appeal to me. I don't know what to expect exactly from this sequel so I'll wait for a bunch of reviews and maybe a small price drop before I buy it but I'm pretty sure I'll get around to buying it this year. DA2 on the other hand, I'm actually not interested in at all, the first one got so much attention and love I got the game only to be dissapointed at the end. I put in like 40 hours in DA:O and there was nothing, absolutely nothing that made the game stand out. It was by no means horrible though. Bioware needs to stop wasting time developing these love stories that end up going nowhere, stupid sex scenes with their clothes still on, just a waste of time. And the funniest thing was that through the whole game you're reminded that the evil guys are out there and they are about to invade, yet, you never really feel their threat. They destroy one village that you visit at the start of the game and you only see their invasion at the very end, and all the time between you just spend going around and doing stupid fetching or assasination quests. Ah well, ME3 might be good.
I haven't tried The Witcher. What should I expect from the story in The Witcher 2? From the videos I have seen it looks like it would be a great game if it had an interesting story.

One of the better stories in the past 10 years, but the intro and first chapter of the game are badly paced and not that fun. Once you get onto chapter 2 it's really absorbing and you'll struggle to put it down. The engine it runs on is not the best so it is a bit of a performance hog, but it's still more than playable. It's also rather long, I did all the sidequests I could find one run through and my save file was at 55 hours, which is spectacularly long in the generation of 4 hour games with tacky multiplayer.

So which other game do you think the style of the story is closest to? I heard someone mention Planescape:Torment, which really gets my hopes up.
I really have no money but I might actually rob a bank or something and buy this.
I bought the first game, but strangely it was the first and only game up until now that I bought and didn't finish. I found the setting, all the dialogue and the little side stories very interesting, but somehow the gameplay was a real turn off for me.
I didn't like the confusing alchemy system and the combat system which gave you now clue as to what weapon and spell was useful in which situation (obviously silver sword for magic creatures etc. and the normal ones for humans and so forth, but when do you use the fast sword, an axe etc? All worked very well and I never noticed a difference in performance in between them... then again I only got around to that swamp area which name I forgot).
The way you "leveled up" somehow also really turned me off, even if it was a minor thing. I also hated the little side quests where you picked it up on the notice board and just had to kill a few monsters. I know stuff like this is a bonus that should be ignored if you don't like it, but somehow for me it lessened the quality of the game.
I also lacked an emotional connection to Gerald himself and his aims/goals. Therefor going further in the main quest mainly served my aim to complete the game, which didn't drive me nearly long enough (played the game maybe 5 hours)
But this game looks really promising so far. I might give it a shot.
omg finally an RPG specifically for us PC users. after all the garbage coming out for pc lately (except sc2 and dead space 2) games have been buggy and just straight up ports from consoles. and the timing is perfect!!!! The Witcher 2 then the new elder scrolls!!!! omg best rpg's ever coming out this year!

well, i wouldnt go as far as to say it is planescape torment-esque as that game is basically a stellar interactive novel. the witcher, much like the books it was inspired by, takes a much more adult approach to fantasy (eg racism between certain inhabitants of the land, how this affects you socially and ultimately changes the narrative of your story) which all in all leads to a more thorough and rewarding experience. Unlike other modern rpgs, all the 'choice' is as natural as in any game since deus ex or torment. There are no good or evil sides, the choices you make affect the world in a multitude of ways depending on your stances and the world will maintain your shades of grey right until the end.
