The dialog is very well written, the story is deep, the characters are well developed, the settings feel alive and vibrant, and the visuals are beautiful. The combat system and character advancement/customization options are just so horrible. Its like Kingdoms of Amalur in reverse. I'll probably play through it though, its compelling enough.
Dunno where you are in the game, but after two chapters or so you'll be more used to it. Witcher 1 had way worse combat system, I don't think Witcher 2's combat system is bad actually. It is rough and unresponsive and unrewarding but that's the whole point. Real combat punishes small timing errors which Witcher 2 does too. Sure, in the start it's mostly roll around with shield and try to get a few hits in but it does get more varied I think.
In this game you shouldn't just settle for simple swordfighting imo, but use everything at your disposal which also includes potions, bombs and signs in particular. When you do all that, I feel that makes the difference between a Witcher and a normal warrior in the game.

I did, it was still there.
Question appears to have been answered, I think I'll pass on it. Story can be crafted from the hand of God but if it's not fun to play I'm not slogging through it.
This game was definitely worth my $16.50... Almost feel bad for getting it that cheap. This game has the best combat in any RPG I have played except for Dark Souls which I think was better. Also I was genuinely interested in the story... Unlike in KoA:R. Must play for rpg fans.
Been thinking about getting Witcher 1. Is it worth getting for the gameplay alone? From what I have heard, there is a lot of back tracking and the combat is not as good as 2.

Witcher 1 is weird for me, it took me 3 tries to beat it. Basically it has five chapters + prologue, prologue + ch 1 flow well, ch 2 + 3 slow down, then ch 4 + 5 are awesome. 2 and 3 are still great story telling and interesting, but there isn't as much happening.
I'd highly suggest playing it, the combat system is a rhythmic based click system in which you shift between three stances. It's actually very fun and addictive. The story and writing are top notch and interesting.

One of your response choices is to say: "Haha, funny", yet what you actually say is "Fuck you". Very different.
That's brilliant. I don't know what you see wrong with that? I believe it's the same for Mass Effect and The Old Republic in a sense that you just get an attitude of your dialogue, not the text itself.

Couldn't this be an option whether you want the wording or the general attitude? I also reacted to that example given earlier.
If you would be given the exact wording it could pose a couple of problems: a) Taking up too much space on the screen b) Giving you a "premonition" thingie c) Making you read the dialogue and then listen to it would be redundant d) Having just the attitude keeps your attention on the game as you're eager to actually see and hear how your character is going to handle it (the interactive movie)

But that's not the attitude? Saying "haha, funny" is more of an annoyed and slightly sarcastic response. "Fuck you", is a pissed off and insulting response (at least that's the way he delivered it). The two did not have the same attitude, which is what annoyed me. I agree that it should be like you said Mass Effect did, which is give you shorter choices, and have the response be longer but with the same attitude (though I felt they screwed that up a bit sometimes too).
I guess the situation in question might be due to improper translation. In Polish, when someone is mocking you or something like that you'll respond with "Very funny" or "Haha, funny" but using it in a really negative way, letting someone know that you are pissed about their behaviour. That's why I didn't see the response of "Fuck You" being out of place here, as that's what you actually mean by saying funny this way. It's all about the context, you can't take it out and try to look at it separately.
I think the fuck you was very funny, and it fits well into the whole novelesque nature of the game. This game is more a story than other similar games that focus more on the role playing aspect, and as such it is nice to be surprised a little bit every now and then. I think it is apparent for example from the fact that there is no character appearance customization, that you're playing Geralt, and not character of your choice.
After buying a new pc I finally could play TW2 (my notebook couldn't handle it even at lowest settings) and it was soooo worth the wait.
Great Story, gorgeous graphics, great dialogs! There is only a handful of games I enjoyed as much as TW series.
The only thing I'd say they could have done better is the difficulty scaling. During my first playthrough in normal mode, at least 50% of my deaths happened in the first few hours. Combat is sooo hard at the beginning. I think the hardest fight were the two first wraiths you encounter. No space to kite and you get like 2-3 shot. On the other hand the final boss did 0 dmg to me, 100% resist and too much armor. I could just stand there and whack it with my sword without loosing life.
Apart from that, great game and I'm looking forward to my second playthrough (most likely on dark).
Finally picked up this game. :D Looking forward to having a blast with it.
Picked up the enhanced edition earlier today. I just really needed something single player to immerse myself in when I'm too tired to play competitive multiplayer games after work and I'm hoping this can satisfy that fix i crave.

I'm reading the books atm. I finished the second one half of an hour ago.. I love it. It's way better than the game. But indeed the game gives you a general idea of the universe. It's sad that it's only 15hours of gameplay.. Gladly I got it for 16bucks on steam sale, because it isn't worth 50 or even 40.
