The Weekly That Bring You the News on the NA SC2 Scene
This weeks edition of SC2 Weekly features three North American Tournaments, the Map of the Month tournament, the Amateur Starcraft Weekly tournament and the Midwestern Championship. We had the opportunity to interview xiDomino, elevengaming's Manager as well as Sympatico the organizer of the ASCW and iGrok, the organizer and judge of the Map of the Month tournament.
Some excerpts;
SC2Weekly: Well, this is certainly looking to be pretty huge. Can you tell us some of the players you’re expecting to see take the field?
Domino: Well, the whole of elevengaming will be attending, so there are some high caliber players right there. In addition, Antimage and rsvp from coL with Steven Bonnell aka “Destiny” also coming. It’ll be a great turnout.
SC2Weekly: Can you tell us what your map pool looks like and your reasoning behind it?
Domino: Well, we have six events, so the pool for each event is different. For the noob event, we had a more noob-friendly map pool. For the main event, we decided to throw most of the “standard” ladder maps in with one GSL map (Tal’Darim Altar) to mix it up.
I started the ASCWeekly because I was bored with the ladder, and the game felt very lonely. I’ve played mostly MMO’s in my gaming life, starting with Everquest back in 1999. What has always enraptured me about games is the friends and community. I was on the verge of just uninstalling SC2 when I decided to try my hand at a tournament, as a way to just make friends to play the game with, as my real life friends had quit.

SC2Weekly: The Map of the Month tournament isn’t the most “conventional” tournament, would you mind telling us how you came up the idea to start it?
iGrok: Well, to be honest it wasn’t entirely my idea. It got started on Team Liquid’s Custom Map forum, and kind of got talked about for a while, but no one was really doing anything. So I just kind of stepped in to make it happen.
SC2Weekly: Have any of the maps you’ve showcased caught on yet?
iGrok: Well, iCCup Pawn RE has caught on, which came in second for MotM #1. Of course, it helps to have iCCup backing ^^.
