In the meantime, this game is forced to a slower start than we would have liked. In short, only players with the Babylon DLC will be able to play- for now. Read the above link for details. Re-sign up (either via post or PM) if you have the Babylon DLC.

In the great year of 4,000 BC, mankind began creating settlements. A society wherein social development has shaped our world, we are the leaders of what is to come for our great nation.
Civilization V (Note: 5. Five. The amount of fingers on your hand) has released today, maybe a few days later for those of you outside of the United States. Today, we rewind to 4,000 BC to relive and recreate the tales of heroes and shape our world.
Teamliquid posters have ran succession games in the past, some successful, others not so much. Players of all skill levels brought their minds to the table to create, or destroy their civilizations, succeeding one another until the end of days. This is Civilization V. We're all new. We're going to suck. Nobody has yet discovered the greatest way to build our empire, but we will build it.
So what the hell is a "Succession Game"?
In short, its a single player game save file that is passed down from player to player.
I am Nokarot the Wise, first selected leader by our nation to choose a fertile ground to settle upon for the speedy progression of our people. In 20 turns, I will die, but my spirit will live on in the body of my successor, the next great leader to shape our nation. Sadly, he, too, will die, but the process continues until the fate of our nation is decided.
But woe, for being a leader of people is a hard job, indeed. History must be known and either written upon paper or rocks, or retold by great tales over the generations. That is why it is your duty as a leader to not only give orders to our people, but to make history known, so that others may follow your wise decisions!
Basically, when its your turn, play 20 turns, save your file and pass it on to the next guy on the list (via uploading online somewhere and PMing him/her). When you pass it on, compile a writeup (supplemented with screenshots (or video?!?!)) of your 20 turns, and share it with the world.
DANG that sounds awesome. How do I play?
Well by golly gee, all you have to do is make a post right in this thread, here, and promise to be available enough to play when your turn rolls around. If your turn comes up and you wait too long to play it, let alone confirm that it's your turn, you will be skipped and removed from the roster.
One thing I might suggest, given that this game is in its infancy, is that you maybe have some prior experience with past Civilization games. I've only been playing it for 2 hours and I can tell you that its CRAZY different, but if you are new, I request that you have at least invested enough time, via single player or what have you, to know not to immediately destroy everything everyone has worked so hard for.
Basically, while I recommend you have prior Civ4 experience, I don't care so long as you know enough to not ruin it for everyone else.
Surely there must be some rules!
- This game requires Steam to play. Therefore, I have created a Teamliquid Civ5 Steam Community Group which hopefully you will join! This is to heighten our ability to communicate between one another for a better, faster game. With this, hopefully there will be less delays between players' turns, and you can always seek out help via chat if you're up and don't know what to do! This isn't required, but what harm could it be to emerse yourself in a community of TL Civ fans?!
- Each player will be placed in a roster and when their turn to play comes up, they will play ~20 turns. After a turn has been completed, a player will write a report including screen-shots and the save file. This is important- there is absolutely no reason to play a succession game if you don't share your experiences with others. Be creative in your writing and people may love you even more!
- After your turns are over, you must PM the next person on the list to inform them that it is their turn to play. Also, at the end of your report, confirm that you've PM'd the next person in line.
- In previous Succession games, players have had 48 hours to confirm they've received the PM and are preparing to play their turn soon. Unfortunately, lack of policing of this rule has led to several overly long stoppages of games, or a game ending all together. That said, while I will generally stick with a 48ish hour rule, I, personally, will skip people if, in my heart of hearts, I believe they are going to no-show.
- If you know you can't play your turn, please announce that you are passing it so that we may continue, or else I might have to take matters in to my own hands! You will be removed from the roster and I will look at you with an evil eye if you sign up for a future succession if you no-show without passing. What the evil eye means is ultimately up to me (at least in the succession games I run.)
- No insulting one another over player skill. Not everybody is a 10 year Civilization veteran, let alone can say that they are masters of Civ5 so soon after release. In future succession games, we may limit certain skill levels, but your elitism is not welcome here. Mind you, there is a huge difference between insulting someone and debate/critique. Be respectful and offer advice, even if you disagree with someones actions.
- Don't set your workers and stuff to auto! Take your time with these turns, we're trying to play this out all on our own! I don't quite know how specialists and whatnot work yet, but something like that may be the exception.
- Have fun!
