All GSL matches will NOT be airing on OGN.
Something is getting really effed up between Gretech, Kespa, OGN, Blizzard and MBC games...
Edit: The news page says something about the broadcast being cancelled due to 'internal reasons'
Edit2: I now have some time to translate.
안녕하세요 GSL입니다. Hello, this is GSL.
9월 4일 개막되는 2010 GSL StarCraft II Open 시즌1 케이블 TV 게임전문채널 온게임넷을 통해 The GSL SC2 Open starting September 4th was to be broadcasted on OGN, 방영될 예정이었으나 , 내부 사정으로 인하여 방영이 취소되었습니다. But due to internal reasons the plan was cancelled. 관련된 기사 등을 접하신 후 기대하셨던 시청자 여러분의 많은 양해 부탁드립니다. We ask your understanding for those who anticipated the broadcast after hearing the news. 이후 지속적인 조율을 통해 방송이 가능하도록 노력하겠습니다. We will continue to work towards broadcasting on OGN in the future if possible.
감사합니다. Thank you.
Also Korean replies speculate that Gretech gave licensing rights to OGN under the condition that OGN will air GSL. OGN complied, but by playing recorded matches, not live, and 12 at midnight. I guess both Gretech and OGN is now back at the table about it.
Further community speculation: http://gall.dcinside.com/list.php?id=starcraft&no=5685535&page=1&bbs=
-OGN and Gretech makes a deal for Starcraft1 license, and in return, OGN will air GSL.
-Kespa jumps in and stops OGN from airing GSL. Pisses off Gretech
-OGN can't go against Kespa with OSL final in few days. Kespa may pull the plugs on players.
-Gretech may nullify the SC1 license it gave to OGN due to broken deals, effectively making the league illegal along with MSL.
That's it so far. Will be updated as it progresses.

Too bad. That pretty much means almost nobody will see GSL matches :o

I also posted this on the GSL stream thread, but since not everyone will read 80pages to see it I'm reposting it here:
It seems like GOM is listening to the community. I just received the following e-mail (I added bold for emphasis):
Dear our valued user, This is GOMtv.net Support Team. We’ve found you purchased Season Live ticket($19.95) via Paypal and we are sending this email to inform you very important issues. We are sorry to say this, however, we would like to let you know this information as soon as possible. As you know, we do not have free streaming service on GOMtv.net. Since our service has been opened to public, lots of e-sports fans have requested for the free streaming service. We’ve thought this issue over for the last few days and we’ve decided to release the free service for the users. Therefore, we will service 1 season premium ticket which includes VOD service and Premium Live service, and the price will be $19.95. With premium ticket, you can watch High Quality(500K) streaming live matches and VODs. Free service is the Standard Quality(below 250K) streaming live only, with no VODs. You can ask a refund if you are not happy with this new premium service. However, if you keep your purchase, we will reward you the premium ticket for 3 pre-seasons which is valid for all season in this year. Please reply to this email if you want to refund your VOD ticket before the first live broadcasting starts(at 7pm KST). Otherwise, we will consider that you keep your purchase and accept the premium service for 3 pre-seasons. Again, thank you for your purchase. Sincerely, GOMtv.net Support Team
It looks like still no free vods, but free LQ stream.

Well, I feel really bad for the foreigners who finally get to play in what was supposed to be a really nice professional tourney. Too bad I lost interest. Too much nonsense. Good business guys.
O, a free LQ stream is nice. Maybe I will watch after all. Still tastes bad.

Who ever would have thought Starcraft 2 would struggle so much in Korea of all places
|
We just need to hope none of the other good US / EU players disappear into the black hole of Korean eSport to keep the regular free tournaments high in their quality. Sad to lose TLO to it, but we already had our entertainment by him, lets hope someone can replace him on the innovation side of the game.
TheGunrun demonstrated the "premium quality" streaming this morning and it was not what I would expect from something called "premium". A resolution of 640*360 is less than the original BW reolution of 640*480 [yes, I know its different screen formats] and thats not really acceptable on the internet anymore. Technology advances and you need to keep up with it.
Doesnt GOM have someone to check the grammar in their "standard letters" for english? The one pasted by rasnj has quite a few errors ...

Wow, so there isn't much cooperation between Gretech and OGN after all, despite both being partially owned by CJ.
Guess it does lend credence to the "small company hanging on by a thread" image that Jukka(sp?) projects on these forums.
I was half hoping to see exactly what would have happened had the tournament proceeded with streams only available to those who paid and how small the audience would have been, but they listened...haha.

So 20$ for monthly hi res live stream and VODs... That seems like a reasonable price, though I still don't trust the streaming quality from Korea to Europe, but at least you get access to hi-res VODs.
Great move by GOMTV (I guess whining on the internet persistently can achieve results)

I'm still laughing (crying) inside that they think 250kbps is "standard" and 500kbps is "HQ."
Do they not realize random amateurs are streaming at 1000kbps or better? That HQ is more like 1500kbps? MLGs was 1600kbps, iirc. Even just 800kbps is miles ahead of 500kbps in clarity.
Ridiculous.
|
Well I'm a happy customer, I bought the stream for 20 dollars and got the VOD's ontop of that price now :D [edit] and all 3 seasons for that 20 dollars! I'm so happy ^_^
But damn all that whining... I hope I never have to witness teamliquid in that state ever again.

Wow this is bad... reallllly bad... :/
Can we get a translation please? Google translate suggests there's a bit more to it than just "all GSL matches":
Hi, is GSL. 4 September 2010 GSL StarCraft II Open Season is opening a cable TV game through professional channels Ongamenet But it will be broadcast, broadcasting has been canceled due to an internal matter. After jeophasin related articles, and viewers expect a lot of folks appreciate your patience hasyeotdeon. After sustained efforts coordinated through the broadcast will be available. Thank you.
Google translate is terrible, of course, but seems like we still need a proper translation.
