It appears units now gain ranks with kills.
Protoss: 0-4 Kills - Disciple 4-9 - Mentor 10-14 - Instructor 15-19 - Master 20 - ??? - Executor
Terran: 0-4 Recruit 5-9 Corporal 10-14 Sergeant 15-19 Captain 20-?? Commander
Zerg: Predator 0-4 kills Slayer 5-9 kills Ravager 10-14 kills Assassin 15-19 kills Metamorph 20+ kills
At this point its unknown if it effects actual in-game damage or armor. Can anyone check?

Doesn't affect unit performance.

Maybe it will in single player.

its probably just for filler achievements...
|
I'd kill myself if it actually affected unit stats in multiplayer. Don't need any repeats of Supreme Commander experimentals thank you.
|
It's not a big deal, and doesn't affect unit statistics in any way. I have to say, though, it's satisfying on some level to see the lone survivng reaper of a raid with 23 kills get some kind of commendation for being a badass.

If you remember in BW all the Terran units had ranks
this is just a neat little detail with no game effect.
There should be an achievement for getting a worker to the 20 kill rank
|
I'm jumping on the "will have something to do with single player and or achievments later" train. If it upgrades the stats of the units in the future, I will rage.
|
As long as this is just for fun, and doesn't affect the multiplayer aspect, I'm all for it.

Zerg drones with +20 kills should transform into a unit capable of launching OP kamikaze critters at bases for psychological damage

I'm fairly certain this is possible with the editor. :D

1. Spawn broodlings with broodlord 2. Attack broodlings with your own units 3. ???? 4. metamorph hydralisk!

If it's anything like SC1's killcount, attacking your own units doesn't count. Maybe with allies, though...

Oh that's such a good idea :-) I always have deep feeling for my lone 20 kill goon. Sometimes, I even keep them to keep my base (completely useless, but veteran deserve some rest) because of the sentimental aspect of it.

There should be an achievement for getting a worker to the 20 kill rank signed ^^

There should be an achievement for getting a worker to the 20 kill rank signed ^^ I foresee people colluding in games to farm those achievements the day SC2 comes out. =P

Ha, ya I'd always honor my veteran units by putting them in the back of my base.

certainly wont affect multiplayer gameplay, because if it does, then its not Starcraft anymore... would be Warcraft in the Space
|
never noticed this, but I like it as long as it doesn't affect unit performance in multiplayer. It would also be cool if maybe you could set units to display little Icons like "double kill" or "HOLY S!@#" when they "Rank up"
but ya, like the feature, even though gameplay wise it's useless.

All these seem to be cool ideas, expect for the Assassin Swarm is a swarm, no finesse here!
Thanks for the info and checking all this
