I find it somewhat disturbing to know that this "interstellar war" that seems to be going on in SC2 is just some past time activity which is exercised on your rooftop.

At first I thought those buildings were just ruins like in BW but then, when I listened closely, I could hear car horns down in the streets - lots of them. Next I realized that all the lights were still on in the towers.

There's even a huge commercial for the iPistol running.

I also noticed this sturdy establishment [x-rated] right next to and below the area where the Crucio shock cannon shells hit the ground.

So then it became obvious that people in this city are just following their daily business, while all this action on top of their roofs is going on. I guess we could at least choose the other, more scenic map layouts to play and leave the people in the cities in peace.

The best is the F.E.D. Global Elite Control building :p THAT IS AWESOME. I guess the makers of SCII are libertarians also haha (Not surprising as most Programmers and Computer Science guys are).

Since when?

On topic: do the other maps have fun little things like that, or only the "Terran" ones?
I wonder if the Protoss have strip clubs.

Ya... First replay I watched was on that tileset, and my computer was choking on its last breath so everything was frozen... But I heard car horns honking and birds chirping and I was like WHAT. THE. FUCK and then I raged a bit and then the replay started and both players were just absolutely terrible and I died a little inside.
Excuse me hun, but what is your name? Vivian? I woke up next to you naked and, uh, did we, um?

There was a article posted by another member here a little bit ago with that bit of information. Don't think I saved the link. It has to deal with the way most computer science and programming majors brains work. We tend to think about the big picture, and are logical. We tend to not be swayed by emotional whims, and appeals. We can also show you the whole chain of causation (Say adding an additional welfare program we can show how it will effect the entire economy and human incentive, etc.), much like a programmer writing code can.

The proverbial we in this diatribe is libertarians.

I guess it's supposed to be used for some urban action in the Terran Dominion capital during the single player campaign.

I actually miss these little Terran doo-dads. In BW things like shacks and stores were present on quite a few tilesets. They were pretty immersing in terms of portraying every day Terrans clinging to survival in war torn worlds.

Metalopolis (the map shown in the OP) doesn't feel very war-torn at all though, which I find kind of silly. Oh well, at least the place looks abandoned. It would be straight-up weird if there were visible people going about their everyday lives on the streets.

There's also a commercial for Nuke Noodles on an airship, which I often mistake for an actual unit.

what i find much more disturbing is that a protoss nexus can fit on a terran rooftop.

i hope they are either going to change, remove or avoid that tileset for everything besides ums/scenario maps. if this is how the setting of starcraft is perceived by blizzard i have been under a misconception for a long time.

yeah, blizzard has had that comic shit going on from the release of wc3 through to wow, but it never crossed my mind that it would hit starcraft, too.

But you are just assuming that they do not notice it. What if there is actually a state of emergency and everyone is in a panic? What if most of the population has been evacuated and the ocassional honk is coming from those who have not managed to leave the city yet? As for the shops and commercials, that is no different from the Badlands tileset in the original which also included those.

Personally, I am grateful Blizzard implemented an urban tileset, although I was kind of suprised that potrayed a metropolis kind of environment. I always wanted to see some urban warfare in StarCraft.

Also, if my memory serves me, there will be a seperate "Destroyed City" tileset.

EDIT: Yep, there will be a "Shattered City" tileset.

Yup, there will be several new tilesets in StarCraft II, including the Shattered City one mentioned in the post above. These aren't quite ready to be revealed yet, but are definitely worth the wait.

Sadly, this was posted on the old Battle.net forums, so I can no longer link it.

not at all the same. look at the scale and proportion of things. while units werent handled 100% realistically in sc1 either (marines standing as tall as siege tanks) it wasnt that over the top and also seemed more like a practical approach so you can quickly assess the battlefield and take good action.

i liked the theme and looks of the map(s).

but still i wonder why there are minerals growing out of their rooftops and why the o0h so precious vespene gas seems to just get pumped into air by those buildings.

maybe it all was a trick?
we didn play a epic saga of 3 worlds fighting for survival and domination but rather a futuristic style super paintball where rich kids play around with tanks and toy pets on the roofs of their super rich parents?

This tile set probably gets used in those cover ops "installation" missions where you fight while controlling a handful of units like how kerrigan sneaks around in the original.
