if you play relatively safe and expect it, that opener shouldn't kill you. i think at this level of play every player is just doing everything they can to undercut and still hold. that's sort of the nuance of elite play - in theory you should be able to defend something like that, but to succeed you have to push your defense to the bare minimum because your opponent is elite as well. defending that opener with the bare minimum means the smallest slipup will probably kill you. but it's not like a really strong timing that just has no reliable defense. the reliable defense is crisp timings and strong queen micro

It's not a strong timing or a strong harassment.

Make queens, make a spore if you're uncertain and a spine if needed.

Like this is not something new it's been around for 2-3 years and it was basically one of those strats that was useless in WOL but you didn't have anything better to open with.

Someone get Dream on the Judo team, since he seems to know all the throws.

Hydra using his CJ powers to confuse his opponent and possibly take the series. Meanwhile he will still have 0 wins in proleague D:

yes, like i said, most likely the reason GSL players would mess up is because they're trying to defend very very cheaply and want to max their economy by undercutting on static D or queens. you are right, obviously he messed up, but it's kind of silly to say "diamond level play" just because he fumbled hellion/banshee defense. i've seen top zergs do the same on stream, and certainly many many players in mid leagues struggle with it from time to time. you're the one who pointed out that it's an "old" strategy so naturally there's an element of metagame shift that makes zergs less willing or ready to prepare for it as well. diamond level players are in diamond

it's at least certainly a "strong harassment" in that if terran micros correctly they shouldn't lose any units, and it forces zerg to focus a lot of attention on proper queen micro and defense when what he wants to be doing is sipping a red bull and rallying drones lol
