I've noticed the pace of Civ V is slower esp. w/o "whipping" 30 turns for the first turn or 30 turns for everybody's individual turns? If its individual turns, that's way too much I think, considering how much can happen in 30 turns (note: a 4-player game can end in in less than 150, though we're likely to be playing huge) For the first turns, I could do 30 I guess. Maybe 40 if a lot of people are watching and offering suggestions, because then that's an extra 10 of collaborative effort.

Everyone who will get the game on friday will have gotten a good amount of game time before their turn comes. Wanted a small amount of time to practice the game so that I wouldn't royally botch the first few turns. Also, so that I could give people the heads up when I stream the opening turns live (not that I know if anyone is going to even watch it or not.) Nobody gave me time suggestions, so I'll be streaming (and simultaneously recording and gathering screenshots) around 2PM EST tomorrow. I've streamed a little already to test quality and whatnot and it seems to be fine, though I might do commentary on the first turns as well. Here's hoping that it all works out!

Because of the Deluxe Edition DLC and Babylon, I started thinking.. We may not random Babylon, but a computer might, and without playing many turns to discover each and every Civ, wherein he might be on another continent but still screwing our game saves, we have to take matters in to our own hands to make sure he's not in our game (a 12/19 chance, so its more likely than not.) Theres 18 Civs (without Babylon), and so I'm telling a random number generator to pick 12 numbers between 1 and 18. The one I'm using has no option to remove duplicates, so if the numbers are 7 3 2 2 4 then I'll change it to 7 3 2 4 X and re-roll for the X (for example) until we have 12 unique numbers. So, here's the numbers I'll be plugging in. Note, the first number is played by us, and the number represents how many names I have to scroll down on the Civ selection list. rolled: 7, 15, 9, 9, 6, 7, 5, 9, 18, 4, 15, 5 7, 15, 9, 6, 5, 18, 4 + 5 rerolls rolled: 12, 8, 11, 8, 15, 14 7, 15, 9, 6, 5, 18, 4, 12, 8, 11, 14 + 1 reroll rolled: 16 7, 15, 9, 6, 5, 18, 4, 12, 8, 11, 14, 16 = 12 Civs. If you want spoilers (including the race we got), see below. + Show Spoiler + Napoleon (France) - Teamliquid Civ Augustus Caeser (Rome) Alexander (Greece) Elizibeth (England) Ramesses II (Egypt) Askia (Songhai) Wu Zetian (China) Oda Nobunaga (Japan) Bismark (Germany) Hiawatha (Iroquois) Darius I (Persia) Catherine (Russia) Broadcast will start at 2PM EST. Exterminator coming to spray the house "after noon" so I hope I won't have to delay, but if so, I'll come here and postpone it. If I have to, I'll probably just record it without being Live.

+ Show Spoiler + ![]() Today begins what will hopefully mark the great history of the French people. After ages practicing as nomads, we have finally settled down to create a Civilization, one of the world's few collaborative nations. As we found our capital city, we name it Liquidia, an old french word used to describe power (or at least thats what the history books we're going to write will say.) Directly west, we find ancient structures, wherein we plunder 75 gold before continuing on our way. I start production on a Scout to explore the west. + Show Spoiler + ![]() Being Napoleon, and our special ability giving us +2 culture per city, I thought we might adopt a Social policy that benefits us the more cities we have. Therefore, I adopted Liberty, allowing us to expand faster, and our cities be greater. + Show Spoiler + ![]() Continuing east, we find another set of ruins. There is no gold, nothing- someone must have reached here first. Our trackers suggest that they fled northwards, and we venture to chase. Up north, we find even more ruins, wherein we find the lost technology of what we now call "spears". We equip them and, with great fervor, test them on the Barbarians that we found near them. We kill not one, but two squads of brutes, before losing our strength, and plunder their encampment for 17 gold. + Show Spoiler + ![]() + Show Spoiler + ![]() + Show Spoiler + ![]() Elizibeth says "Hello", as her scouts watch us tackle the Barbarians from afar. We said "Hi", back. To the east with our scout, he discovers ruins which reveal the ancient techniques of Pottery. Brutes attempt to steal those secrets back, but the defensive position of a hill is enough to lure them out, kill them, and then go in and take their undefended encampment. More money for us. + Show Spoiler + ![]() Another social policy. Seeing as that our first settler is almost out, I figure it's best to prepare a social policy that will aide in our next city. Collective Rule seems to be a good choice- mostly because it's a pre-requisite of something far greater. + Show Spoiler + ![]() Our spearmen remain unupgraded. I'm saving the upgrade for when I decide whether I need to heal him instantly, or whether I find time to heal them at home and upgrade them. On their way back home (to revendous with the settler and save any barbarian troubles), we come across more ruins. This game just loves giving us culture. + Show Spoiler + ![]() We meet with the Chinese, as they approach Liquidia from the South. No worries. + Show Spoiler + ![]() A new people under the Liquidia Banner decide it is time to expand our territory. A band of settlers ponders where to go. To the west, there is a lot of arid plains, and not much for resources. To the east, a lot of hills and little food. The spearmen and the settler travel south to follow the river, in hopes of finding a nicer climate. + Show Spoiler + ![]() A barbarian encampment is found there, and using "heal instantly", we're able to secure it with relative ease. In doing so, we meet with Darius, who is apparently extremely wise and remarkable. + Show Spoiler + ![]() + Show Spoiler + ![]() Paris is founded on a resourceful, farmable area on the river, with hills to to the side that our culture will eventually envelop. I purchase a worker with our gold surplus, so as to get that city up and running as fast as possible. The spearmen takes a breather and recovers to his full strength. + Show Spoiler + ![]() + Show Spoiler + ![]() With all this culture, we're now able to adopt a third social policy. An extra production in every city is sure to come in handy this early in the game. + Show Spoiler + ![]() And this is the world how Nokarot the Wise left it. In his final years, he passes the bracelet to PrinceXizor, son and heir to the empire. During his years, we've discovered Animal Husbandry, Trapping, Pottery (from ruins), Calendar and Mining. Our men have found spears, and we have formed Pacts of Cooperation with two other Civilizations we have found (Note: these are not allies, but rather agreed friendships that can turn at any moment.) We've provided open borders with Wu Zetian (I think? maybe someone else) and founded Paris. Things are looking good for the Liquidian Empire, and I trust the Prince to continue this. + Show Spoiler + ![]() At the end of turn 30, I still have 2 things to do- Choose a production and choose the next tech. I could have picked those, but I didn't want to lock you in to those decisions 7+ turns. I chose to get trapping and calendar because we needed those to improve the resources in our capital (and, it just so happens, our expansion)- so now that our economy and happiness is straight, I would recommend Bronze working, but that's up to you. If Person A has Deluxe Babylon DLC and Person B doesnt.. - Person B can't load Person A's save. - Person A can load Person B's save. - If Person A re-saves Person B's save and sends it back, Person B can't load the save. This was confirmed by someone else in the chat who tried the saves, as well. Unfortunately, this causes a huge problem for us, and for all succession games (I bet Civfanatics is pissed). Essentially, in order to play, we have to segregate people by what DLC, or lack thereof, that they have. If we want to continue Napoleon, we need people who haveDeluxe Babylon DLC. If somebody wants to start another game without the Babylon DLC, feel free. Unfortunately, due to the nature of this problem, these groups have to be completely separate for the time being. I may be able to play 20 turns on a no-DLC game, but by re-saving it I would prevent no-DLC players from being able to play it further. Hopefully we can get a hotfix of some variety for this issue. In the meantime, if you have both DLCs, we're going to start a new player list. If you're the first person to sign up with both DLCs, post your name, then go ahead and take your turn. If you don't have both DLCs, please try to load up the save anyway so we can 100% confirm this issue (with more than 3 test subjects) and submit an error report. For the record, the error he got when trying to load up my game was a runtime error connected to the DirectX EXE- which only happened when loading my game, and not previous games of his.
