So being out of town I decided to boot up good old Diablo 2 on my laptop and im struggeling on my amazon. I hope you hardcore players can be help me out with some tips.
I went bow spec and im currently having a hard time to reach mefisto in his dungeon in act 3. Im lvl 23 and my bow is simply not good enough ( had it since act 2), its a 3 socket one. There's no better to buy at NPCs.
I literally have to use like 8 shots on these meteor casters in mefistos dungeon, meanwhile they're blasing the crap out of my squishy ass.
I specced mostly passive skills ( CS/dodge/evade/penetrate) and I use multiple shot as my main spell with freezing shots on unique/bosses.
Is amazon just really hard to solo on or have I simply just been unlucky with my drops? I have close to full yellow year. I max dex > vita > energy > strenght, in that order. Most into dex.
I have huge issues with large packs of mobs just stun-locking me into tight corners when im in dungeons, and I'm just unable to kill them fast enough and not tanky enough to just sit there and take the dmg.
This is ofcourse single player with no modding or duping or w/e. Legit play - legit noob, like the good times.
Any tips you guys can give me on how to solo properly on a amazon, and what I should do to get past act 3?
Great! Bowazons are pretty tough to play untwinked ever since 1.10, that said it should be manageable atleast until the later acts of hell. First off you should familiarize yourself with the /players# command, it simulates the drop/experience of having a higher player-count in the game which is really helpful to make sure you don't have to re-run a bunch of stuff to stay at the right level/equipment. I'd recommend you work on getting a strong act 2 mercenary, if you have any diamonds (any quality) try to cube a Savage polearm for a solid damage output. Use decoy whenever he has problems tanking. Try to gamble a better bow or find one with sockets and put some Ith runes in it. Don't waste any points in energy! Shop mana potions and be conservative with your skills
Thanks, I didn't even think of getting mercenaries because i'm afriad they'll just leech my XP and be dead weight. You get real paranoid after playing to many mmos.
Just a reminder: Whenever you're running, enemies have a 95% chance to hit you, regardless of passive dodge/block skills etc. Its probably best to walk while using your amazon if there are enemies nearby, if you want to get the most out of your passive skills.

Those act 2 mercenaries also have different auras: Might, Holy Freeze and Defiance are the only oens worth picking up IMO. Holy freeze especially if you run something that only has 1 element of damage and doesn't focus on melee (lighning javazon for example).
I wouldn't bother with mercenaries from other acts.
EDIT: I don't think there's an aggro table in the game. Mobs seem to hit the thing closest to them.
EDIT2: Just saw that you're a bowazon, get a valkyrie (a 1 point investment will be enough).
And since you play SP: check the runeword mod out in this thread: it will enable ladder only runewords (insight and spirit are insanely convenient). Atma V is a program that allows you to trade stuff. It's all considered legit so you don't have to worry about that. (I play hardcore SP myself).

Incorrect. One of the skills is specifically designed to work while running.
What happens when running is that your defense is completely ignored and your block-chance is cut by or to 1/3 (can't remember which)
Sometimes when you run too far ahead of your merc and he has to "warp" back to you he becomes "invisible" to the enemies - they won't target him ever. I think the only way to fix this is to open a new game.
Level 23 is still fairly low to be finishing act 3, try to put the players setting up a bit and clear out an area with some bosses - council are great but might be too difficult. Try flayer jungle otherwise.
So I'm planning on starting a new ladder character on USEast. Playing from Korea as I am on vacation but the lag shouldn't be too bad. Anyone up to power through to Hell?

The grand issue with it is the inherent imbalance in the item-system and the absurd inflation of items on the realms due to botting & duping. These aspects combined with a perverted approach to how the game should be played amounts to a flawed perspective of what LoD is. Give it a fresh go on hardcore without trading/taking freebies or playing with players that use such. It's a quite a difficult task to assemble/find such a group solely online as these players are usually hard-to-reach or mostly active around ladder resets. If you have a couple of good buddies interested in revisiting D2 this way of playing may give you a renewed perspective on the game. D2C is horrible compared to what it was pre-1.10, the balance between the classes is significantly wider than that of LoD because you do not have access to equipment that improves your character significantly for compensating.
I've slowly been workng on a mod that aims to first and foremost fix what's wrong with the game as of now (item+class balance) and secondly add some content once I familiarize myself with how to do so without making it gimmicky. It hasn't had attention for a while though, once the dust settles after D3 is out we'll see what makes out the diehard D2-fans and then I'm sure something will come out of that.
How will you ever get D2 players to play your mod after D3 comes out?
edit: Oh are you relying on D3 sucking?
I'm not really concerned with that, I'm sure there will be players left and probably people being disappointed with D3.
The oskills (non-class skills) that Enigma and such added was a really cool idea. It became an issue though because the "+x to all skill levels" property increases those skills as well, allowing you to get a Battle Orders f.e. close to the potency of a Barbarian's. Many items were just too universal like the Harlequin Crest/Shako putting almost every other helm in the shade. Way too few items were class-oriented, most were just either good for a "caster" or a melee char.
Most classes other than the barb can only get to lvl 18-20 BO ability a Pure BO Barb ( only more wealthier people would ever bother to make these and often used as bots to just auto ally to cast the spell and sit in town ) can get to level 55 BO ( Battle Command adds +1 )
6 BO helm + 3 Warcry Amulet + nigma + 2x Sojs/Bul Kathos + Arachnid+ Hoto / +3 BO CTA + Torch + Anni (Uber Diablo the one with Soj selling / IP tracking to find him ) + 9x Warcry Grand Charms ( Can be rerolled from high ilvl GCs beyond 60 ) + Battle Command + 20 into BO.
Level 54 BO without BC / Level 55 with BC / Level 57 with skill shrine
The 6 BO helm will only spawn on a blue item ( Since that's how the +3/+3 would spawn on the same item / you can find the prefix/suffix chart on blizzard's site if you want to find out more ) / worth a lot more than any of those items...

Thanks. I know all this. It has no relevance for softcore players as the potency of the BO you can get from the oskill is sufficient for not having you/your merc die so often that it annoys you thus pretty much eliminating the relevancy of having a barbarian in your party, because as everyone knows he already blows at clearing mobs due to certain casters being completely ridiculous at it.
i have spent years on my moms shitty windows 98 grinding the druid on single player, it was the most rewarding time of my gaming life, not accounting for all the custom maps i made on sc bw but anyways how could druid be last?!! he was like my favorite with all those summon and aggressive skills they were just so enticing and fun to spam click with >:D
fucking stygian dolls, lost 62 character i made few days ago, i was going to start doing mef-runs hardcore, and casted blizzard on 10 dolls near me(muscle reaction; p) it was my first character after 6 years of no playing d2 (or even more). grrrrrrrrrrrr
so like many others i decided to start d2 again before d3 comes out. what websites do you guys use for trading? so far i use incgamers and the german indiablo, but im sure there are other big sites. im not using jsp because i dislike the whole forum gold thing to say the least
Like the gentleman posting above me, all this d3 stuff has made me pick up d2 again. I'm reading that ladder is going to reset VERY soon eh. Should be fun/
So I'm playing this game on single player mode. But I realized something. I can't find the dang place to go to. I must have spent 30 mins running around zone 1 trying to find the cave enterance.
Still having fun with it though and loving it. Def old school. But I enjoy these types of games and its a classic for sure.
