"If there was a delay of 2 sec, its impossible to play the game. if i were to feel 2 sec delay while playing, its absurd. that means the game reacts after a sec or two following the mouse/keyboard input. I did watch fd's games and i saw some effects of lags in his games too (maybe they were just mistakes). If it was a bit of like sc1 w/e but 2 sec is ridiculous"
"There's a good chance that people are lying about 2 sec delay, and every player has to deal with that lag. So i don't think it is appropriate to talk about who gets benefits/disadvantages from the lag. I personally believe if you are a pro you should be ready and able to deal with such problems."
"If you are a pro, you want to perform at a perfect condition. Even Tiger Woods, i think he was quoted saying he does not play unless he is in perfect shape. it's not a pros responsibility to perform at a top level in any situation. A true pro is whom is able to perform at his/her full potential given ideal conditions. i don't think many of you guys have played on foreign servers, but there is instantaneous lag rather than lag that is continuous throughout the whole game."
Seems to be many Koreans are focusing on the lag problems, specifically in BoxeR's set. I don't know if they are aware of the TL ruling on G1 or why it was made; I'll keep digging.

Ciara vs MC Game 1:
"MC's insane lol, he lost like what..1 zealot? lol"
"Ciara doesn't GG! MC's micro's amazing.."
"MC's opponent must be pissed. He didn't even say GG"
"Ciara needs to suck it up. He didn't even say GG in a game that he knows will be broadcasted all over the place. He saw the three gates and droned up. He shouldn't have attacked in with those lings. It's his fault. Does he think he's too good to even say GG?"
"MC's not one to take something like that sitting down. I'm looking forward to game 2. I wonder what he'll say in an interview in the future regarding this?"
"Didn't MC provoke Ciara first in an interview by saying 'I just know that he's not an exceptional player'? Nevermind the no-GG, he's lucky Ciara didn't cuss or something"
Ciara vs MC game 2:
"Why'd the zerg enter the tournament? He's getting finished with just void rays. lol"
"While the void rays deal damage, the energy on the sentries have stacked! Bye bye zerg."
"Completely one-sided game."
"One thing you guys have to remember! MC must've been affected by the 2 second lag from the quake. But the zerg still couldn't beat him, how sad." Replies to this lag statement: "The zerg should be lagging 2 seconds too then" "No, there is no lag for the NA and still fast for EU people" "The quake shouldn't matter" "The underwater cables to the US have been affected by the quake so it matters" "It lags other people too when I play in the NA server, the spam 'laggy laggy' when I play them" "That must be a computer problem. Delays only affect the person with bad connection." "I play on all servers and when I play people on the west, they're all fine while I lag upto 2 seconds with all my clicks and chats." I'll cut the lag talk short here, but some seem confused about the difference between 'lags' and 'delays after commands'. And I did read a news article somewhere that mentioned the underwater cable affecting connection to the NA from Eastern Asia, but I can't say for sure. I'm lazy to check atm.
"Can't you tell by looking at MC's force fields? Maybe not 2 seconds, but there seems to be at least a second of delay. I think he didn't go lazer-toss without reason. I think he just wanted to push the zerg just with 'attack + click' to not have to deal with micro and lag."
"The force fields of MC certainly weren't on par with what we saw in the GSL finals."
White-Ra vs Loner Game1:
"Lol the toss' force fielding is stupid. He saw there wasn't anything in the bunker, he should've kept things from going in, but decided to trap them with the bunker."
"Isn't White-Ra married with a kid?"
"There's a rumor that he's a farmer that plays games as a hobby."
"I think he's 34 now."
"Yea he has a wife and kid, and a job."
"Is this the protoss that beat Boxer before? Not in SC2, but in SC1."
"Didn't Boxer win that 2:1?"
"No, Boxer lost it was a couple years ago."
"Meanwhile, a comment made on TeamLiquid forum after the game: 'Fucking Chinese...'(this part in English) ....lol what the hell, White-Ra is to blame for that loss."
They are watching the TL forums o:
"If White-Ra's really a farmer...then he's winter-toss. He should be too busy to really play during other seasons. He gave the impression of being slightly behind the other players in IEM, but I guess he was busy working. I don't think it's fair to trash talk White-Ra just because he messed up. I mean look at ThorZaIN. I've never heard of him and he beat FruitDealer. Unimaginable plays like that could always happen."
"I think the thing about him being a farmer was half-joking. I think he works for a company (like a businessman)."
"ThorZaIN was a war3 player, a minor game here. It's no surprise people haven't heard of him."
"ThorZaIN had good micro..he could become really big if he came to Korea and practiced here."
Uh..I'll stop here, because to be honest I couldn't fight sleep past this point and KO'd. I want to watch what happened in the games after this point, before I translated stuff regarding them.

White-Ra vs Loner
"After a failed blue flame hellions, I think GGing and leaving is certainly the way to go lol"
"It wasn't even blue flames"
"Ah, my bad hellion drops lol"
"Do these guys not know Shakuras spawn points are far positions only?"
"No way lol"
"They both scouted close positions lol"
"They're both probably scouting for proxies, there's no way Loner's never done Shakuras"
"Who builds proxies at those locations? lol"
"Oh wait, you're right lol"
"The toss should win this"
"The zealots are just outshined by the colossi and you don't really see them too well, but as a terran, a bunch of zealots are so damn much more annoying compared to a bunch of colossi"
"Why'd he pull back just there? Couldn't the marauders win there? Just one colossus and some stalkers..he had 3 vikings and marauders. It looked like they could've gotten that"
"I think it was because of the warp gates. If 5 or more zealots came, the remaining units would've been caught"
"If the marauders went in, he would've lost heavily. Warp gates were summoning stuff in and there was another colossus"
"But I still think it would've been better than running away while losing units. I wasn't talking about going to attack the toss, but standing his ground and taking care of the units that were left"
"Considering the counter attack, I think he made the right call running. The stalkers were blink stalkers too so.."
"I want to see set 4 but I'm so sleepy..Jinro vs MorroW..but I'm about to collapse" -Knetizen feeling the pain of foreigners watching GSL-
"I feel sorry for Loner in the final match...after the medivac pressure there was a timing where he could've gone in when the toss had 2 colossi..but he gave White-Ra too much time and lost it"
"Marauder running away from stalker while getting hit....huh? (probably a joke pointing out the irony of stalker chasing marauder when it's usually the other way around with concussive shell, I think)"
"Yea, this is my first time seeing White-Ra's games. He seems very weak in the early game and it's a shame Loner couldn't figure that out. White-Ra seems to like macro games with focus on upgrades and exploding in the late game..but Loner's a macro type too so..lol"
"That was like watching a normal ladder PvT. But still there were no carriers or motherships like the rumors say..I've heard that in the NA server, motherships are like hax good...It felt like watching a ladder game of mine heh"
"I play on NA, but I have yet to see a mothership;;; It's all a rumor"
"Huk!!! Let's be surprised after watching this 2nd set Huk!!"
Huk vs HasuObs
"Why do they keep reading the names wrong since yesterday? Just who the hell is HaobsuhObs?"
"Link to games please!!" "Click live stream at Gomplayer!"
"They said they've asked an English speaker to read it and are imitating what they heard;"
"It must be the same thing as a foreigner trying to imitate and say "안녕하세요('Hello' in Korean)" and having a completely different sound coming out...But his ID means 'Hasu Observer'. The ID was made in Korean and yet.."
"Yesterday..you mean the Tyler, Taylor thing right? Anyways, who knows? They're not retards, it can't be that they can't read HasuObs"
"Tyler as Taylor, ThorZaIN as Throzen, HasuObs as HaobsuhObs...you don't necessarily have to be retards to not be able to read"
"Oh they're reading it as HausObs..maybe a German person read it as HausObs to them"
"Just reading it as HasuObs is correct"
"They're saying they're interlocking with TeamLiquid and reading them as they're read. Why's everyone making a fuss? lol"
"Even if it's the same sound, knowing and not knowing the fundamentals make a different when you try to imitate the sound. Try imitating a language that you don't know and see how it works out. Gisado(one of the Korean casters) just fixed it and is reading it correctly as HasuObs now"
"The subtitles are switched;; The red at 9 is HasuObs and the blue at 12 is Huk.."
"I got fooled too lol"
"Who do you think has the lead? For some reason it feels like HasuObs has the advantage..but Huk has quite a bit of immortals;;"
"Depending on the micro, Huk could have the upper hand"
"The force fields are the most important factor. He'll lose if the immortals play"
"PvP is so damn boring...I'd rather find 4warp gate rushes or a proxy gate more fun"
"Ah, Jinro..please purify my eyes (Koreans use the expression 'purify the eye' to refer to something beautiful, fun, relieveing to watch/see)..PvP is killing me..they should nerf tosses crazy or something to keep PvPs from coming up...I'm so tired of this"
"Did MC, BoxeR, FruitDealer..etc all go out of country for this on a plane? or is this online?"
"Koreans do it online, so the ping is crazy"
"They connect to the NA server online. So they say their usual levels of micro are not possible"
"Online. Just the finals are done on location"
"It's online, I think the semis and the finals are offline"
"I forget when, but after a certain point in the tournament, it's done in New York I think"
"Ah...the last match was so boring T T...Why didn't you look at the corner...T T"
Jinro vs MorroW
"Until when will MorroW play zerg..? Besides having skills, the player's personality should match the race..This guy throws away terran after he wins a tournament with 5racks reapers...and since then lol"
"He just switched races. T -> Z"
"Is the lag really that bad -0-?? 2 seconds...Looking at the games I can't feel the lag at all..During Open Beta I've played on the Korean server from NA and don't remember much lag...Korea has fast internet so it can't be taking 2 whole seconds..I once saw Huk play games with NA people from Korea, and he barely lagged"
"They say the earthquake had some effects. KT's cables going out to foreign countries were not affected too much. Maybe it's something like oGs using KT and TSL using LG" -KT and LG are ISPs in Korea-
"Whoa....whoa..."
"A foreign player casting the Kyrix style"
"I can't close my mouth...D:"
"The GSL players are not doing too well..What's wrong with them T T..other than MC everyone's getting by barely or being KO'd in early stages T T FD - KO'd early Boxer - Barely Huk - KO'd early Lonver - KO'd early Jinro - Uneasy"
"Jinro KO'd early" -posted at a later time, after Jinro loses 2:1-
"MorroW lol burrow lol"
"MorroW's good..he got hurt pretty bad from 2 racks and is still able to do that"
"How are the TSL results going so far? Please summarize in one line"
"Upset"
"MC wins, Huk loses, White-Ra wins, Jinro 1:1"
"So you're saying my Toto is being destroyed" -Toto is the betting thing they have on PlayXP where players bet points to guess results and outcomes of games. They use these points to buy icons-
"Wow Jinro..words can't describe. MorroW's amazing too...getting harrassed so much from beginning to end, and still being able to recover and produce masses. Zerg's been getting hit the whole time, but they become so strong if they manage to somehow block the harrasses..Jinro's detailed macro game's off the hook...So I guess a zerg gosu has to at least be able to play like this to win...."
"MorroW was really good too"
"Where are you guys watching the game?"
"GomTV, Gisado"
"GomTV's lagging, watching the foreign stream. Check the notice for match previews"
"It still looked like he blocked it pretty well without bunkers..if that was me, I'd mis-micro my SCVs and marines and lose them all to the banes...but in the end he lost both. GG"
"Really boring lol lol"
"Who won in Jinro vs MorroW? I refreshed real quick and the game ended;; I watched upto the point where Jinro had a massive wall"
"MorroW won 2:1"
"If you aren't going to scan Zerg's base, I think you should at least have one SCV outside to check near the zerglings to decide if you want a bunker or not at least. If you weren't going to scout at all, a bunker would've been nice. Even if he lost a lot of SCVs with the first rush, he did block it. And an SCV was outside the wall. I wish he would've scouted around with it a bit. He's usually very thorough..sad he wasn't this time"
"Seeing the result upto now: Out of the 7 with experience in GSL 3 advances, 4 got KO'd. Out of the 4 current GSL code S palyers, 1 advances, 3 got KO'd 1 Code A advances Shame"
"I think it's a huge handicap to play NA from Korea. I tried and the response time is so slow, I can't even spread or do moving shots with banshees. This is why you should play Korean servers in Korea and NA servers in NA..."
"I don't know how it'd be playing NA from Europe"
"Oh..I heard they were invited so I thought they were flying over to play there..but it was online connecting to NA from Korea? I was wondering what they were talking about with the cable being bad due to the quakes in Japan"
"Europe to NA doesn't matter~"
"Still, watching the foreign players in TSL..FD, Jinro, and Huk dropping at round of 32..even with the big of lag, I think the skills of top foreign players are quite formidable. The GSL players are having a hard time"
"I especially think MorroW and ThorZaIN were very strong. I'm speechless at how MorroW lost so much in the early game and was still able to survive to midgame depending on just mass ling/lings"
"Foreign players are very strong. It's not just a league of our own anymore lol"
"That's right, their skills didn't fall short of our players at all. MC seems to be lucky with his opponents too. But did these players not participate in the IEM?"
"I don't know about them and IEM, but unlike the invited Koreans, I heard they had prelims for this tournament. So their mental state going into this should be quite different"
"Really, I can see GSL being spreading more and more towards being global. Looking at TSL, and watching the players in GSL..Korea is a powerhouse in Starcraft, but I think in Starcraft2, that expression will disappear..Even if the reaction times were slow, the games themselves were excellent. In Starcraf 1, Korea dominates and take everything in WCG, but I don't see that happening in Starcraft 2. There definitely are players among foreigners that can win, just like the players on TSL today. Looking at Jinro's spread today I thought 'Wow..he's faster and better than MarineKing'. They're that scary and good. GSL having doors open to foreigners, I think there are some very skilled players appearing, which I like"
"I think it'll be fun to set up a GSL-level tournament in America and Europe and getting the top 8 from the tournaments and having a word tournament could be fun too"
"Or making another server and getting 16 from each to have a 64 people tournament could be fun too. Get 16 Code S players and 16 Code A players...if Blizzard could support this and have sponsors behind it, I think Starcraft 2 will become really popular"
"Positive affects of GSL players getting KO'd early in TSL: Foreign users can now feel like 'Hey, I can do this!' And in reality, it doesn't look like there's a huge gap like in Starcraft 1 to have words like Koretoss, Koreg, or Koran. If they do come to Korea, they might be a bit surprised by the Kimchimen's micros due to having no response time issues, but like Huk and Jinro, it's just a problem of adapting. But even in the micro department, seeing that terran spread marines against FruitDealer, I think things will even out real soon"
"To think Jinro would get knocked out.."
"The terran that got FruidDealer was really thorough and good"
"I don't know, now there are a lot micros like marine spreads and moving shots, toss' guardian shields and force fields, and zerg's baneling explosions that require micro speed of 0.x seconds. And having slow response times, I think the results can't be helped but be like this"
"That's why things are looking positive. All that matters is how the cheesemen look at things from their perspective; This delay in response time will help break the prejudice about Koreans being unbeatable. If this happens like in Starcraft 1, this'll just become a league of only Koreans again"
"So this tournament's done on the NA server from Korea? That's hard;; The response time is crap and the Koreans are given too much of a handicap. No wonder the GSL players have been falling left and right"
"So only the Korean region has slow response time in NA?"
"Europe seems to be fine, but the Kimchimen are saying it's 0.5~2seconds late. Blizzard must've given a server handicap"
-Two guys have a really immature argument about the word Kimchimen being used, but I'm not translating it, it's lame-
-More arguments and discusion with pings and numbers and computer network terms I cba'd to look up follow afterwards. Not much more regarding TSL-
I accidentally refreshed this page and lost my first work after being halfway through -_- So I got lazier the 2nd time around..I'm also sleepy so..excuse the grammatical errors and other things that might be wrong with this translation. And hm..is this too long?

You also can't ignore the time these koreans had to play and what condition they were in late at night. They also did not know much about their opponents and could not study their characteristics. I'm not discounting that foreigners are skilled and assuming that there is a skill cap between koreans and foreigners. I'm just saying if none of the top elite korean players cannot make it past RO8, no data or replay to study the opponents and time zone could have factored in to why they lost"

FOllowed by Koreans confused how the result was 4:1 cause of the mistake OP made making it BO5

When White-Ra 4 gates they don't say anything and watch in awe. They criticize Koreans when they 4 gate but they except for 1 game it they just 4 gate'd. Sigh... This was one of the most boring PvP's I ever seen. But it's fitting for a TSL RO4"

They also grilled the players too

Surprised that there is no talking either positive or negative about the disconnect game.
I would have to disagree with that one guy saying "If you are a pro, you want to perform at a perfect condition. Even Tiger Woods, i think he was quoted saying he does not play unless he is in perfect shape. it's not a pros responsibility to perform at a top level in any situation. A true pro is whom is able to perform at his/her full potential given ideal conditions." A true pro is someone who goes out and tries to win at best of their abilities no matter what the situation is for them. And it's funny he brings up that quote about Tiger (not even sure if that's true), because he won the US Open on a BROKEN LEG.

this comment frustrated me, seemed to be serious and not sarcastic with his "minor league" comment.
Oh come on now. I love what the TSL has become. It's come a long way from TSL1. I love the production value, I love the hype it generates in the foreign scene, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
You have to consider the Korean perspective. When you try to stack the TSL up against the GSL OSL MSL and SPL, it's not surprising Koreans might call this a "minor" league.
A lot of those comments are fully understandable, to be honest. Latency has always been an issue in international tournaments and has been a point of concern in previous TSLs; it's not terribly out of line to complain about it.
(Of course, TL does it's best to mitigate issues of latency, but it's a simple hard fact about international tournaments).
i like those comment talking about their country being the best, i think those comment are made by the bronze/silver/gold/ player, it's taking the success of a few of the korean for them.

Maybe they should pay the players' plane tickets then, or stick to chauvinistic national only events, stopping esports dead in its tracks.
I'm pretty disappointed by the attitude of those "major" people and hope that they are in a clear minority.
I don't see why these comments are such a big deal. They're just comments from everyday members of the community, just like the random complaints and comments you see on TL. The fact that they're Korean doesn't make their comments any more valid. :p

The condescending comments about TSL are very much to be expected because no matter how you look at it South Korea has been the premier eSports and Starcraft locale for a long time and they will have that pride in being the best. This kinda thing happens in everything

I agree with you here. Taking everything with a grain of salt of course what the netizens post.
But it can't be denied by anyone that the more stable the korean teams get the more "diamonds" they will produce out of that system. And surprisingly enough they do it off of one league, taking a considerable risk. Even though Starcraft 2 is nowhere near Brood War in terms of leagues and teamstability (probably thanks to the locked up sponsors in the kespa vs blizzard debacle) their players are getting better fast.
Latency is a huge deal. And if Boxer was nervous about the lagg it affects his game. Anyone would react the same. Think about muta harass in BW on battle.net and then on iccup/lan, you play a completely different game.

Don't be too surprised at these comments, as far as I can tell Korean netizens have always had that kind of attitude towards foreign BW and now SC2. Losing to any foreigner in a WCG in BW got you ridiculed and hated on by netizens as a Korean progamer.
Of course the two scenes are closer in SC2 than in BW, probably closer than most of the Koreans realise, but with their national pride and their long-bred conviction that they're far and away the best nation at SC, those comments are to be expected unfortunately.
I've always been the guy who's cheered for the Koreans at every event, but these comments do make me wish that the foreigners will show the Koreans in this TSL that they're able to compete.
Was disappointed by what I read, but I guess you really shouldn't read much into it. I just hope the opinion of these few netizens isn't the majority of korean fans.

Of course, and I'm not condoning it either but I feel like it's also kind of silly that many people are quick to point the finger when it is unfortunately very common
Well you can find the same kind of commentaries from western viewers about every game played in korea. It would be more interesting if we knew what "important" e-sport figures think about the games. Are there statements ?
I mean, Europeans regularly do well in US server events so their lag shouldn't be overwelming. But I've also watched a few tournaments were Koreans also participated. In them (FX Open) they've done even better than Europeans...

lag is always a nice excuse. thats the major thing.
neither the eu-na nor the kor-na delay shouldnt be too bad - otherwise the games would look extremly different imo

well, if iam not mistaken, IdrA mentioned today that EU-US is far better then NA-KR.... guess he should know about it
I don't understand if the KR-EU isnt to bad and EU-US isnt to bad (which i know for sure) Why arnt all games just played on EU server? atleast for KR/EU games if eu/us want to play on us i can understand that.

For me (from Canada), I get the bnet cap to US East, 200 ms (1/5 second) to EU, and 500 ms (1/2 second) to KR. Of course, KR has more lag spikes as well. Boxer's latency could have spiked to 2 seconds at one time or another if they played on NA. I'm guessing they played on EU though?

KR-EU is unplayable. NA-EU is the best, KR-NA is significantly worse, but still playable
That is what IdrA and the others pro's were saying.
they are playing NAvsKR on both server, NAvsEU on both, EUvs KR on NA because EU to KR let the worse or i think they can't just play becuase they got desync due to lat issue
On March 21 2011 11:16 Crazyeyes wrote: When there's lag, do both players suffer? Or only one? Assuming there was a 2 second delay, was NightEnd completely unaffected by this?
For example,by KR-EU they mean people in Korea are playing on European servers (or maybe the other way around, if it is just switch the order). The people playing in the same region as the servers are hosted have significantly lower pings, meaning the server knows what buttons you press than the guy who lives on the other side of the world.
Hmmmm, people who made those comments, who are they? Just some random SC2 players or pros? Lets not judge Koreans if those comments are made by random people, just look at some today's TLnet posts. There are a lot of whiners/flamers/trolls everywhere!

The question is, who made these posts? If it's just random netizens then who gives a damn? I'd sure hate for someone to be taking posts by TL QQers and posting them on playxp. If it's 'important' people in the Korean scene like other progamers, casters or commentators then I'd be disappointed. At any rate thanks for the translation and if you have time please post more.
Here's are some responses of KNetizens from PlayXP on TSL day 2. :b

I think normally its playable. Until the quake that is. The quake messed up/ destroyed some infrastructure ( underground cables?) and that kinda messed up the connection between Asia - NA/EU.
Some people has been quoted saying that KR-NA is unplayable / very laggy in recent weeks. I don't know much about the whole technical thing though but it would make sense
Will be curious about what they say regarding jinro and huk upsets though.

Also pretty interested in what they think about games without any Koreans in them. Tyler vs Strelok? Sen vs Fenix?
So thank you to the ones who put in the time! Much appreciated
WhiteRa as farmertoss gave me a good laugh, thanks very much for translating and I'd be interested in reading their reactions the the Hasu vs Huk and Jinro vs MorroW games. It's always fun to get perspectives from the other side of things =)

Try not to be such a racist.
While I'll admit many other people are whiners, this thread is specifically about Korean reactions to the TSL. Try to avoid being so politically correct.
He's racist and/or a huge fucking hypocrite, and we shouldn't encourage either behaviour.
Thanks for translating those! And keep them coming. :D
Too bad they're almost completely negative and 90% focused on the lag instead of strategies or commenting on the production of the stream (which I was most interested in). >_>

Awesome added this to the topic! Quality first post man.
The netizen reactions about 2 second lag are retarded. BoxeR's EMPs didn't miss by 2 seconds, they missed by something like 0.2 seconds on moving Phoenixes. Games are played on a neutral server meaning that European players also face significant lag. Lastly, MC's forcefield control did not suffer due to the perceived "lag".
2 second lag. Just count it and know how ridiculously BoxeR's GF's comments were. She should know better than to taint his image with ridiculous excuses.
On March 21 2011 10:33 Blueblister wrote: Is the KR-US lag that much worse than EU-US?
I mean, Europeans regularly do well in US server events so their lag shouldn't be overwelming. But I've also watched a few tournaments were Koreans also participated. In them (FX Open) they've done even better than Europeans...
lag is always a nice excuse. thats the major thing.
neither the eu-na nor the kor-na delay shouldnt be too bad - otherwise the games would look extremly different imo
well, if iam not mistaken, IdrA mentioned today that EU-US is far better then NA-KR.... guess he should know about it
it is, without a doubt. but did he ever play from ukraine or russia?^^
Well you guys have to remember from the original post, it said that the 2 sec delay was reported by BoxeR's girlfriend who is going to be biased and going to exaggerate

Jinro vs MorroW

Zerg's been getting hit the whole time, but they become so strong if they manage to somehow block the harrasses..Jinro's detailed macro game's off the hook...So I guess a zerg gosu has to at least be able to play like this to win...."

The Koreans really love Jinro and Huk, at least on PlayXP, from what I've seen. I think part of the reason is them having respect for foreigners that were able to adapt to the Korean system AND deliver results on the ladder rankings and in the GSL. Jinro and Huk being nice guys with good manners doesn't hurt too I think.
Nice work Nostalgia, paints a better picture of the netizens then the last few posts lmao, I thought they switched servers between each game so the lag issue is more panned out? Guessing korea doesnt know this because of the huge lack in information they seem to recieve compared to our baller ass community.

"GomTV, Gisado"
"GomTV's lagging, watching the foreign stream. Check the notice for match previews"

I wish he would've scouted around with it a bit. He's usually very thorough..sad he wasn't this time"

And in reality, it doesn't look like there's a huge gap like in Starcraft 1 to have words like Koretoss, Koreg, or Koran.

I like how they were better than most of TL in recognising how well MorroW played in game 2.
so happy to see morrow getting the respect he deserves. A big fan of him and this guy truly is still underrated in the foreign community for some weird reason although he has been pumping results left and right

Except it wasn't cheesy but the hard counter to jinros build.
I wonder if a) the latency is that severe as Jinro's marine split was very nice or b) whether they're looking for excuses as anyone rooting for their own team would.

I think we should keep in mind that Gisado is casting the games in Korean, and he may be pointing out different things than what Wheat/Husky pointed out. I don't remember them saying how amazing Morrow was at his macro behind his bad start, but Gisado could have talked much more about that. Commentators can have a big influence in public perception.
It's too bad the Korean netizens don't know that the TSL switches servers back and forth... Unless KR vs EU games are all played on NA because the KR-EU lag is so awful, but I know for NA-EU games they switch servers back and forth, so hopefully they do something like that for the Korean players too. I think having a system like that really increases the legitimacy of play between foreigners and Koreans, and also makes things like Thorzain beating FD more impressive.

I hav a friend with an ex sc1 player and I can tell you that even that they mannered on the outside they certainly look down upon our poor skills. They laugh at hard ret tries and just talk shit about him and probably any other outsiders trying to blend in. They don't respect people coming into a team and don't take the effort to learn Korean when they learn some English and the westerners expect then to speak English to them.

"He just switched races. T -> Z"
And hm..is this too long?
the koreans are so so butthurt about losing to foreigners. just lag QQ and criticizing the players.
really bad sports actually, its pretty sad considering how much praise we give them, you'd think they'd give a little back when its due.
Sigh im so pissed with Boxer's gf for making this all about latency QQ. I've played from KR to NA, its really not THAT bad. it certainly isnt even close to 2 seconds.

Actually we're equally butthurt. Just on different things.
Just needed to get this off my chest. Yes, a lot of Koreans were pretty pissed about losing to non-Koreans, but there was a lot of positive commentary in retrospect. While there is a percentage of the population that will never believe that the rest of the world is catching up (or has caught up) to them, a lot of them are actually much more acceptive of the notion, as is obvious by the last comments that were translated by Nostalgia.
And quite honestly, the lack of respect of foreign players wasn't entirely undeserved when looking into its history. Back in SC/BW, there would always be "THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD OUTSIDE KOREA" and they'd get hyped up...and then they'd just get their butts kicked. It really led to a giant inflation of the country's ego that carried on to SC2. Instead of getting all butt hurt that they haven't completely come to the conclusion that the two scenes are really close yet, NA/EU just has to pick it up and beat Koreans at the highest level on a consistent basis. Just as proof that Koreans aren't completely blindfolded, they absolutely love Jinro. He plays a style of Terran that's completely different from most Koreans, plays a very solid game, and is loved for it. This is why you're seeing the positive comments about MorroW; not only did he play a great set, he beat a player that they actually respect regardless of ethnicity. Same with FruitDealer. ThorZaIN played a great game and as a result gained a lot of respect from the Koreans. It's not like people are beating MC and they're just turning their heads.
I feel like we have this huge inferiority complex here and it frustrates me to see everyone just assume that all these Koreans are being thick skulled and QQing. When a "foreigner" shows that he's a great player, they respect him. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if there was one-sided lag due to the circumstances, and this is an issue that needs to be met before season 4. Forgetting 2 seconds, a constant 0.5 second delay for a person doing like 500 actions per minute is actually a pretty big deal. Either: 1) it's going to be much too easy an excuse for Koreans to pull out, or 2) it's actually true and they shouldn't be playing with a handicap. Either way, it's not good for the future of e-sports. But back on topic, the easiest examples are IdrA and Jinro. Both players are very highly respected in Korea. It shouldn't be that big of a deal to have to prove yourself in an industry where one country has basically dominated for the last 10 years. It's not like we're not used to big egos and arrogance as Americans. I mean, really? Have you watched the Olympics and our country's reactions to some of the outcomes? Get over it.
I haven't read all 7 pages of the thread, so forgive me if everything's settled down and I'm just bringing up a dead issue.
Oh yeah, and cheese-man = American IIRC because we really like cheese here (just think about it). Kimchi-man obviously = Korean. As a parting gift for this TL;DR: http://tiny.cc/0u8bw

If you don't like it, just ignore them. You should be satisfied that the Koreans have been losing. I don't see why you care so much about their reactions, which were actually very positive regardless of what you've been saying. None of us have actually seen the Korean casting of the event, so that's the last thing we can actually comment on. Nice try, though.

Well, that's kinda obvius, if you get invited to someones house, and hardly make a attempt at adapting to their culture, you come of as very rude.
Shouldn't take too long (a few days at most) to learn some common phrases like: Hello, Goodmorning, Goodbye, Hungry, Food, Yes, No, Thanks and Please.
Reading Jinro vs. Morrow comments made me happy. I felt the same thing, morrow was definitely more impressive in game 2 and it made me forgive him for the sick sick banelings busts and taking out jinro. Im glad that there are some koreans that are starting to respect the foreigners.
I still find it funny how koreans love thorzain haha.
And no, its not too long! I love reading this and despite the large amount of repetition this doesn't bore me at all. This is so awesome! ^^
Like reading these comments , guys thanks for translating!
Morrow is getting some appreciation for his zerg play. Remember a time when everyone was like lolling about his race switch and losing during the learning curve, and lots of pro's saying he'll never be a good zerg, well, smears coal on the faces.
Oh, the comments I posted on PlayXP made it here (about the pronunciation of HasuObs).
About the lag:
FD posted on PlayXP right after the match was broadcast. He said the game would froze every 5 seconds or so for a second, not to mention the ever present and immense lag. He deleted the post soon after, which is understandable because it would be unseemly for a professional player to complain about it.
Now, I know from playing other RTSs on NA servers that the lag isn't usually THAT bad. But some cross-Pacific Internet lines have been affected by the recent earthquakes in Japan, especially the ones going through Japan to US West Coast. So depending on which ISP you're using, the lag can be hideous at this time (different ISPs use different lines - from what I hear, Korea Telecom has a direct connection to San Diego, California, while LG Telecom's line goes through Japan). That's my theory anyway.
Farmers really do kick back and chill during the winter (other than business meetings, repairs and whatnot). I'm sure korean farmers play SC all the time.
Maybe the semis/finals could alternate games on NA/KR servers to make it fair

They already do that. For Korea vs Europe games its only NA though.

:D! I agree completely.
I think it mostly has to do with that EVERYONE has been playing since the beta started. Everyone has had an even playing field.
Also; it sucks that there is such lag issues that plague playing online. Another reason the korean's will not take this tournament seriously.
The thing is, we kinda had an even playing field even for Broodwar at the beginning. We got a lot of guys able to succeed amongst the Korean progamers ( Grrr and co) which shows that we were not actually playing catch up all the time skill wise with broodwar. We lost ground in the period after those generations because there was no sustainability because many people shifted to other games / were unable to sustain the level of commitment needed to compete with the Koreans. There were CGS/WC3/CPL and other dramas that prevented the right infrastructure and environment to be established in the west.
The true test would not be in the next 2 or 3 years but the next 5 years. Western E-sports are extremely volatile and disloyal and filled with more drama than needed. If the e-sport road is more difficult than expected and most progamers are not able to gain good salary from it, how many of western e-sports players are willing to suck it out and endure the horrible living conditions and stick with the game as well as putting out the hours necesarry? We know the Koreans would do so.

Mirroring my thoughts exactly. I had such a banana grin watching the MorroW discussion. I'm all warm and fuzzy now, so I feel ready and eager to go to work.. a rare and welcome feeling indeed. Team Liquid ♥♥♥
At least the Korean netizens translated here seemed to like the ability of the foreign talent presented in the TSL. But I agree with them, so far, it's been one upset after another.
Out of the group of several Code S and Code A GSL players in this tournament, if I recall, only two GSL players weren't knocked out in the first round, MC and Boxer.
I mean as far as the Thorzain vs Fruitdealer match goes, at least they recognised that Thorzain had some pretty good micro as Terran.
Most of the comments are quite understandable and similar to what you would find here, except from their viewpoint. (people would probably also complain about lag if they had to play on the Korean server, etc.) I like that they appreciate Thorzain's skill, taking out FD is no slouch (even though I feel a little bad for him, he'll always be one of my favorite players because of the whole GSL1 story)
It blows my mind that so many of them don't understand the server situation. Do they really not know that KR-->EU is waaaaay worse than KR-->NA (although since the earthquake that might be different for SOME people, but isn't that something you'd check before hand and if it's unplayable you go to someone's house that has a good ISP or a cafe that does? I think you really have to blame the player on that at least somewhat)? And that it's extremely difficult to get Korean accounts so it's not reasonable for games to be played on the Korean server?
well I thought it was only all on NA if it was EU vs KR? (and alternating otherwise) but it's good to see comments from trolls on the internet are very similar no matter what language it's in ^^
If any player saw 2 second lag, all players would know it. The server allows at most a 250ms latency between itself and clients, if anyone is above that threshold then all players will see the lag box. Seems to me that it is impossible to have more than 250ms latency. When you're trying to do many actions per second, a quarter second might feel like a longer delay than it really is.
It's definitely not too long, it's super interesting to see what others are saying across the language barrier. I'm very happy that some of the Korean netizens are mirroring the thoughts of people over here. :D

Wait what? The world team is pretty much stacked. The only 2 arguably weak links are Dimaga/TT1 based on consistancy and recent results. It will certainly be interesting to see how the results are there

maybe not. They were surprisingly not whiny when Thorzain beat Fruitdealer. I'd love for them to be surprising that way.
gsl world bro, gonna clear a lot of things up. not to mention a lot of people are under the impression that games alternate on KOR servers, which they do not

they would alternate if it was NA vs KR, but so far it's only been EU vs KR.

Not really because the qualifiers were stupid and don't represent the best of the world.

Awesome translations SiZ.FaNtAsY. (as the comments progressed I was lollin' irl) And awesome production from TSL crew, worth paying to see those games imo.

Awesome translations. Thx SiZ.Fantasy. I'm looking forward to even more translated responses from you.^^ I'm really interested in those reactions from korean netizens as they are the notoriously worst/most unforgiving.
I LOVE LOVE how the KOREANS are being classy about this and not blaming the lag, but the foreigners are mostly blaming the lag for the KR losses. <3 you Korea! And wp Adelscott. I thought you'd get raped, but you definitely played your heart out. You too, Goody!
Thanks for the translations mate. I have something that needs a bit of translating if you have some time :D.

Remember these quotes are a small sample pulled from a larger one. Seems like only the well mannered ones towards the foreigners were used here. I highly doubt ALL the korean responses looked like this.
haha maybe yes but all Korean Top players are very angry now so it will be tough match
We know that the World Team isn't the best it could be, but if they do well, it will send the message loud and clear. Especially coming off this weekend of the TSL. The general attitude towards the game is just right. World team doesnt have to win, just have a strong showing. Ideally, I think if the game was pushed to an Ace Match, it will prove great for international starcraft competition everywhere.
World Championship team better not mess this up. Foreigners have a real chance to gain the Koreans respect if they do well. We don't even need to win, if the matches are competitive and a couple of our guys win, then I'm declaring victory.
There seem to be a lot of excuses floating around, I think the Koreans just didn't take it seriously or something because only MC showed that he is a superior player so far so if he can do it, what is their real excuse^^

Remember these quotes are a small sample pulled from a larger one. Seems like only the well mannered ones towards the foreigners were used here. I highly doubt ALL the korean responses looked like this.
yeah kinda like how OP went out of his way to pick only negative responses for day 1. remember koreans are normal people: there will be "manner" ones and there will be the QQers, just like everyone else
Koreans seem to blame lag and the day time, but aren't the games played on servers that provide equal lag for both players if it's EU vs KR ? And I dont think the games are live, I think theyre played at times comfortable for both players - it's just some excuses. Imo the koreas thought they're just way better and didn't practice at all.
Btw, anyone whos able to transalte the gomtv talk? I'd appreciate it so much <3
I hope this inspires some of the players to go to Korea. Only then will we be sertain that they are on a level playing field. However the games were awesome

to be fair mc got pre patch TvZ and had just played a finals vs. Zerg so had practiced the match up excessively.

Its got a arrogantsmell to it.
I think it sounds more like the poster considers Korea to be primus inter pares in SC2. See for example how he writes "Instead we should see koreans and foreigners as equals." Considering all previous evidence that's a realistic assesment and I don't see how it could be seen as arrogant.
Im really glad some are recognising the skill of some of the players from yesterday instead of discrediting because of lag speculation, really gg's and the players deserve the credit.
I think it's legitimate for Koreans to QQ about lag. I mean, in IEM, it was almost lan lantency and 3 A-class koreans took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place among many S-class foreigners.
TSL is online and S-class koreans get 2-0'ed by A-class foreigners. (no offense but Adelscott is no Nony or White-Ra or Huk...).
The organization and efforts put in TSL3 are incredible, everything is so perfect, too bad lag issues are wasting it Damn you Blizzard.
Nice stuff This TSL's been a one sided slaughter of top notch world class pro Koreans lately... It's going to be interesting to see how the series continues. The Koreans seem pretty calm about it still. I guess they're still in chock since the Thorzain vs Fruitdealer games... and so am I o_o
Edit: There's already a thread about lag. The lag is not a problem if you follow TLs advice to practise on the game server (NA), as it's fully playable if you do. The ping is like 200-250ms or so from what I've heard, which is bad, but far from unplayable.
I wish people here were a little more mature like these quotes....so manner and willingness to accept skill when it's shown. Thanks a bunch for all these

What does this mean exactly? Will they be routing new copper from west coast to korea? Will you be buying 5000 miles of ethernet cable? Stop. Talking. Garbage.
I'm interested to know how some of them feel about IdrA losing. From what I've read in the past some Koreans didn't entirely like him. Thanks for doing these.

Wow, 2 second delay? That's worse than if i was playing on a 14.4 internet connection which I had to do once when I visited my parents (they dont use internet). I think the complaints are highly exaggerated...
MC didn't seem to have any issues. I mean, I'm not calling them liars, but I guess I just want to believe it was relatively fair because I enjoyed the series.
Wow, im kinda feeling like teamliquid is my little brother and i need to protect him from a bully...

Idra made it to qarters of code S and without any spoilers he had a tough series and to my knowledge he played on US connections against a US player on the Us server. Tournaments are very interesting. a lot of the VERY BEST talent isn't even in code A yet and the competition is much more fierce there than for the players who've already made it so nightend not making it doesn't make him bad. He just wasn't the best on that particular day.
College football is a good example..... now im rambling.. I hate seeing people talking bad about TSL when I just enjoyed it so much.
Nada had some phenomenal micro, pulling his banshees as SOON as he saw marines running in on it... I doubt lag was that significant for the other koreans. I mean Lag doesn't explain MVPgenius sitting on two base with no upgrades for the whole game.......
Yeah the nada game didnt show any signs of lag....neither did the other games of TSL imo. U usually see lag in micro battles, but I didnt notice anything. Koreans are just not used to loose in sc2 and keep in mind that if EU players meet KOR players , its probably the same in terms of lag....dont know about NA to KOR thingy.....cuz Im in EU

I agree. On the other hand with the MVP games, especially when the scouting marine and scouting reaper got killed by probe surrounds, those were both (-_-') moments for me. That being said, it might have gone both ways.
And for people saying lag decided the games, note that NesTea won that game.
That was either completely retarded by Nestea or on purpose because he was maxed. Notice how he moves his roaches back and forth there even after they got attack, no way that was lag. Also look at the production tab, he immediatly build a bunch of Curruptors afterwards.

Indeed, i noticed that too, he was without a doubt gearing up for a brood loord transition.
Also if hes very smart maybe he tried to pull the hellions away so the ling/blings could clear out some of the tanks. I dunno, but if Im lagging and getting sieged i spam away to gtfo asap, i dont click back and forth indecisively.

It wasn't as significant. He played from the oGs-Liquid house where the connections (to NA) are slightly better.

Maybe too much has already been said about lag (and I'm not in a position to add expertise), but that did seem peculiar. I mean, even if he was suiciding the roaches to free up supply, why not unburrow them after they started getting hit so at least they could do some damage on their way out? Then again, I've seen Protoss players murder their own zealots to free up supply when maxed, when I'd expect them to send them on suicide missions instead so they could get some value out of them.
Also, Goody is playing from Germany, no? So he'd be experiencing lag playing on NA too (maybe not as bad). And when Koreans were playing NA players, didn't they alternate servers or something so that both players suffered as equally as possible?
The probe surround of MVP's marine and reaper was the other situation where I thought "hmm, maybe it is lag..." Maybe some Korean players will comment on the subject. Maybe that will make things worse.
I have to think that Jinro's post on the subject is authoritative. After all, he was playing from Korea too. And some of the comments about lag seem implausible (the stuff about 2 second lag, or the oGs-Liquid house magically having a better connection to the US servers, etc.)

Yeah, Goody played from Germany, I heard DarkForce speak about the lag from here to the US server yesterday or the day before on a stream, he said that there definately is a noticable delay that you don't have when playing on EU. He couldn't comment on the KR to NA connection obviously but supected that it might be a bit worse than (probably right on that one).
About the oGs-connection... Somebody said that it might depend on the ISP they get their internet from. That there were some ISPs who route their connection to the US through China and some through Japan or something... I'm no expert on this, but I'm quite sure that it's entirely possible to have better/worse connections to certain services or locations depending on the ISP you're getting your internet from.
I ladder from australia to NA server. My ping time is 176ms to the battle net machines. That is about typical for here to west coast. I believe europe would have less latency. My guess is Korea also has a better connection than I do, because before it leaves the country Aus ISPs sort of have fairly bad latency anyway, and Korea has extremely fast internet internally as everyone knows. I'm sure they have direct fiber to US.
Anyway the lag is noticeable compared to playing the AI or the campaign, and it makes perfect stutter step too hard to do (but imperfect stutter step is ok). I don't think it impacts much of anything else unless you've never felt it before.
I'm not entirely sure but since some matches feel more laggy than others I wonder sometimes if the lag of my opponent is additive for both of us. In other words, playing a european hooked to NA feels twice as laggy for me as playing a californian hooked to NA.
But bottom line is I don't see anything in the matches so far where perfect latency would have got them a win over a loss, unless the player was just depressed at it not feeling like a home server and playing badly overall.

what are you doing at work??! Husky says to call sick. Cuz the games are sick.
These translations are awesome! It was interesting to see all the lag comments at the beginning turning into massive praise for the non-Koreans who took out Koreans. Nearly brought a tear to my eye. GSL World Championships are going to be sick!
And for people saying lag decided the games, note that NesTea won that game.
Note how it takes roughly 3 seconds from when the first round is fired, until the roaches changes direction. Even if there is lag, I highly doubt it's anywhere near 3000ms. And even after changing direction, the roaches didn't run back right away, they were going left and right. Asif he was undecisive or trying to kill the hellions with splash, and then, he ran away.
That scenario really just looks like failed reactiontime.

Also, if you look closely, you'll notice that Nestea unselects the roaches shortly after they move into range of Goody's army. THEN, he reselects them, moves them a bit haphazardly, then runs away.

Well I think the World tournament is something different. The Koreans play it pretty leaned back I think, while for the foreigners it would be huge to win that series. Thats a big difference in motivation and preparation, also the Koreans dont know the Foreigners as well as they know the Koreans. Another point is that this is no Best of 3 format. Sure, the Foreigners can take games of the Koreans, but it's a very different thing to play the same player in a best of 3 than in a single game. Last but not least the Koreans we have seen today weren't the best they have to offer. While the Foreigners were really good ones. Especially Sen is a beast and played GSL already. Sen winning against Anypro and MKP is not that much of an upset is it? TT1 surprised me, to be honest. But still, it's no Nestea vs Goody. So, I really think you cant compare these results today with TSL results. Yes, there are some foreigners who can totally compete with Koreans, but it's not like the regions are on the same level now.
Tsl is very well organized and an absolute win/win to watch! thanks for that. As an old bw player/fan this site and of course the release of sc2 was a huge moto for the old school sc audience to come back.Of course this site with all these streams ,the intel and the tournaments makes it a joy.A big bravo for everybody involved in this ,keep the faith guys! Regarding the tsl3 games i really enjoyed thorzain, qxc, naniwa, goody, nada and mondi. The full mech style of goody with some rines is very oldschool and he believes it so much ,it will influence every top tier T player in the future ,i am sure about this... Mondi of course is a legend here in Europe and his thoughts that he never payed so much attention to Korean scene says a lot...A typical zerg killing for fun enjoying every moment of the game without loosing his arms in the process go man ,thats the real spirit of the games. Sc2 is a very different game than bw.Its 300% faster in terms of strategic decisions ,races has become highly mobile ,an aggressive player can destroy a drone "machine" like idra as we all attested .So i believe that this tournament is the proof that its not only the mechanics, its also the brains and the decision making...Kudos to blizzard that released a so volatile game, imo it kind of resembles poker more than ever . I only hope to see more of this type of games in the future,i predict that Korean and foreigner scene will soon be called the sc2 battlefield without borders, may the best win!

I'd have to agree with the koreans that lag played a part in the upsets. There are too many top koreans falling and playing way worse than they often do. Look at the GSL WC where both sides played on korean servers. I think foreigners still have a long way to go.

No offense to the world team in the WC but I think the Europeans that had the main hands in TSL upsets got shafted out of it. Would love to see a rematch but with Thor/Kas/Adel on the team instead of people like Huk Haypro and Moonglade.

Hmm interesting because I'd like to see a rematch too with MMA or Ryoung instead of AnyproPrime. YOu can shift the teams around as much as you want but there will always be "ifs".
Additionally, a series of BO1's means nothing, as could be seen by the MKP Sen rematch, the Dimaga Nestea rematch, the White-Ra MC rematch in TSL3 and so forth.

toto derives from totalisateur, the name for the automated system which runs parimutuel betting, calculating payoff odds, displaying them, and producing tickets based on incoming bets for horse racing.

agreed, best of 1's dont really mean much. Even best of 3's in volatile matchups dont mean to much. like nestea vs dimaga i think a best of 5 would really show, because nestea outplayed dimaga in game 1, then game 2 dimaga cheesed nestea and it was a complete build order counter. Then game 3 dimaga outplayed nestea. So imo its pretty much even although dimaga won, the exact same thing could have happened dimaga in game 2. Considering nestea's zvz is a hell of alot better than dimaga's in terms of win percentages at least i would defenetly still bet on nestea in a rematch best of 3 or best of 5.

Hah yeah. Although, there are only like 20 or so comments on that page, so it's not like some general consensus or anything. Lol trolls on the Korean forums, who would've guessed.

it is a good excample on how 1 comment can snowball the shit out of any forum xD
"I hope Boxer can get to the finals and face MC for an epic finals. Fighting!"
"MC, BOXER!"
"Zerg : 0 T_T"
"Is RO8 Online too? I wish they could play in the same server..." [answering] "Unfortunately it's online till the finals. They'll fly to NYC for the finals"
"I feel as though Naniwa is more dangerous than HasuObs"
"0 Zerg LOL. Prae.Thorzain is a very solid player, if MC gets too arrogant he may lose"
"As expected foreign zergs mediocre"
"To be honest after watching HasuOB's games he's not that dangerous. If Boxer practices with his practice partners (they stated names but I have no clue) I feel as though he'll easily make the RO4. I hope Boxer makes it to the finals and face MC for an unrealistic match"
"What? 0 Zerg?"
"Zergs aren't great..... MC will be MC, I hope Boxer keeps doing well though"
"If there aren't any lag problems, Boxer will definitely make it to RO4. However, he may face Naniwa and he's really good...."
"Boxer's RO16 was played in Korea so it was fine... But RO8 and RO4 are different servers so it's basically him playing against the lag.."
"It's not just Korean players, but great players from other countries are all here. Kas, Naniwa, Thorzain, Adel, etc"
"Zerg died..."
"Boxer please win and make it to the finals to face MC"
"Boxer cheer up!"
"Shouldn't they do something for zerg? They're so bad..."
"Zerg apocalypse"
"So many toss"
It's funny how everyone assumes MC will streamroll to the finals while they hope boxer can make it to face him. Just thought it was funny ^^
has to laugh a lot about the two comments which you describe as your favorites. And thank SC2 god that they played both on europe server, so no excuse with lag problems.....
Wow I kind of feel bad for reading this, but damn.. yeah this is sc2 porn for a foreigner fan for sure. So good games ♥ MC vs Thorzain is a must see for everyone. The entire series was... Godlike.
Fantasy you are the greatest! You are providing a really great service for TL with these translations.
I would love to see thorzain in GSL someday. Who knows if he gets enough hype from TSL maybe he could be invited to the next world championships they hold.
Boxer vs Sen last week was one of the most amazing SC2 TvZ series I've seen
Thorzain vs MC is THE best TvP series I've ever seen... Every game was on a RIDICULOUSLY high level, with near-perfect macro, heart-pounding micro, great diversity of builds
For the first time, I can't wait for VODs of a live match that I've seen to come out... Gotta rewatch that series, especially games 4 and 5... Thank you Thorzain, thank you MC =)

Well kind of yes? Everyone is assuming it was played in Europe, maybe including the casters, maybe the casters do have inside information, but maybe they are just falsely assuming; we cannot know . I mean if you want to be skeptical, how do we know it was actually played on the EU server? In Coppenhagen oGsMC used the nickname BlizzEventA, while in the TSL VODs, he is oGsMC.
Now while I personally believe he probably just used 2 different guest passes, and that the casters did have inside information, the other opinion still has equally valid ground. Also supposing that the person who voiced that opinion is a Korean, andsince he is a Korean he might not have had the same information from the casters we had on the english stream.
While I believe there is good evidence that the game was played on EU, including the fact that from the stream there was no noticeable lag in the games, surely it isn't beyond reasonable doubt? In my eyes it's probably around 90%-10% that it was played on EU, but I don't think being a bit more skeptical is necessarily "wtf" :p
On March 28 2011 07:18 biggestnoob wrote: Lag is always an issue in these international games. There is going to be a problem until Blizzard introduces LAN play.
What does this mean exactly? Will they be routing new copper from west coast to korea? Will you be buying 5000 miles of ethernet cable? Stop. Talking. Garbage.
If the LAN is p2p then obviously this provides a way of not going through Battlenet servers regardless of whether you are on a real LAN or not, which would help a lot...

Hot_Bid already confirmed multiple times that MC vs ThorZain were played on European servers.
If they are saying in the cast that it was played on so and so server then it was played on that server. Its not like we're outsourcing our reffing to 3rd parties and saying that the games were played on these servers without actually knowing. Hot_Bid is reffing most of these games and helping produce the casts you you had better believe they have the right info.
Edit: Sure the Koreans may not know that Gisado is 100% that the games were played on EU, but when TL admins and casters are confirming it I don't know why people here are still questioning it.

Now it is beyond reasonable doubt. Unless we are in the matrix :D.
Anyway despite that Korean reaction probably just being a person who can't believe MC had lost - the reasoning was valid. Some people in the thread seemed to be claiming something like this:
1. MC was in Europe to play at Coppenhagen games from Wednesday to Sunday 3. Therefore MC was in Europe while playing the TSL games.
The person righlty points out that this knowledge claim is false, because 3. doesn't follow from 1., due to the lack of knowledge of when the TSL was played. If you could insert:
2. The TSL game was played on Thursday
It would be justified. But yet again this is me probably just misreading the meaning of a comment, because of revising too much philosophy for my examinations. By all means it's probably just a person who can't handle MC losing to a foreigner and making arguments without watching the games.
"MC eventually loses... Now there's only Emperor left and for him to win"
"What the fuck MC lost?"
"Kas 3:1's to RO4. Thorzain 3:2's to RO4. If Emperor can get to RO4 it's only TvT from then on. It's in favor of the Emperor"
"The difference was in the upgrades and how they fought the battles. But regardless of the result terran played really well"
"Wow MC... This is epic.. Like a president toss.."
"I hope for everyone in korea watch the MC Thorzain game.. Especially game 4 and 5 it makes your jaw drop"
"Is MC out of his prime?"
"It's not that MC is out of his prime, it is because THorzain was that good. Although he lost this match he won in Copenhagen"
"Both players are really good. In game 4 he cloaked the ghosts to wipe out MC's army. But he still lost..."
"Wow, I really think TvP is the most entertaining match up. Especially game 4 and 5. Game 4 was no joke at all, and game 5 shows why Thorzain is his name"
"Right when you feel toss is overpowered, dual upgraded terrans feel superior"
"Wow.. 5 games... I don't know what to say haha"
"Game 4,5 epic matches"
"MC isn't that good lol his skills are slipping"
"MC why aren't you upgrading? So frustrating.. An upgraded 200 army can beat a 400 no upgrade army... Wow really frustrating.. Look at thorzain's upgrade... Lvl 2 armor upgrade while MC has none... You can never win in that situation.."

"I feel as though the online lag limitations put our korean players at a disadvantage. I heard they're playing offline starting RO4 but till RO8 I feel our players have a great handicap no doubt. I heard the lag spikes are worse than SC1 battle net and UDP."
In all seriousness I seen a lot worse in TL LR threads and SC2 Strategy forums, so I guess it wins the non-TL troll award.
Thorzain was pro and these gay koreans act like ti was luck or lagg pfff i hope throzain wins that swedish tournement that puts 1 in gsl code a and he kicks his way up to the finals

haters gonna hate but at least some koreans abandoned their arrogance and acknowledge us foreigners as equals...at least the top foreigners
Funny how some Koreans blame lag even though they were both in Europe and it was played on the Euro server. Oh where is the offline ro4 being held? Can't wait for that :D.
beatiful thread. love to see the koreans' jaws drop as they realize that blizzard removed their god mode when making macro "easy" in sc2 - in sc1 only really few foreigners had what it took to train the macro mechanics needed. in sc2, cruncher can win a game.

These surely are dream results. All koreans except Boxer knocked out now. I wouldn't mind Boxer winning TSL3. It would almost be an honor! Though, gogo Thorzain!

HASU plz make us proud even if he lose i hope he plays so great that koreans seem there are alot good foreigns not just thorzain the korean GSL winner slayer
Korean sites are the exact same as TL. Plenty of people are excited just by the awesome skill of these players and the advent of a truly international competition in SC2, and a few are stuck in a worthless mindset.
Some of the reactions are really frustrating to read, but a lot make me really happy too, as there seems to be a lot of respect for foreigners arising as a result of this and the GSL World Tournament.

Oh my God.. That LR went on and on for like 50 pages how MC had 'stolen' the win somehow, etc etc etc.
It'll be interesting to see how it works out in Korea with the foreigner scene. I've always assumed that the top 5 Korean players were basically untouchable, but right now I feel like there are alot of foreigner upsets coming up, and I feel like the wins are really earned in a manner that kind of decided the better player at that given time so.. yeah pretty amazing.

I agree, the european-ese language probably confused MC who was used to korean hangul. Not to mention not playing around familiar sights (skinny azn guys vs. white guys), sounds (kekezergrush), and smells (lovely kimchi vs. stinky danish pastries). This league is rigged

"I'm a Boxer fan but let's not make excuses. He lost due to his skill. Game 1 seemed to show the lag and delay but the opponent was good too"
Funny how both foreigners and Koreans believe Koreans are at some disadvantage because they can't "study their opponents" yet there's tons and tons more not just VODs, but also replays of all foreigner players available to anyone with internet access. If they're not willing to put in the effort to find them or get someone who can read the most basic English to find them then OK, but that's the same argument as "oh but he doesn't practice!". If you put in less work than your opponent then you might lose, yeah.
24 pages of reactions to reactions. i wonder if the netizens translated this thread and made a korean thread about what we said about what they said. then we can translate those and remark on their responses to our replies on their reactions.
If I'm entirely honest, I do sympathise with the lag complaints. I really do. I wish people could see the lag and yet still accept that the European players also have mad skills. It seems like a lot of the Koreans do see it, which is cool to read about. I felt that the 'world all stars' players could have represented the foreign scene better at the world championships.

The reactions seem ok about the boxer games. Only thing that stands out is the guy saying boxer couldn't study the foreign player HasuObs.
What?
It's so easy to find replays from any foreigner player. I would say it's completely otherway around. There is VOD's from boxer but not that many replays and you can google hasuobs replays and you get a bunch of them.

I think Thorzain has gotten himself a lot of Korean fans.
Oh yeah, supidly funny, like a lot of cms... Anyway, we have no popstars making commercials for computer materials in Europe...
I love how it actually seems normal in the Starcraft community to speak about "europe" and not the respective land someone is living in, however in germany we have video game commercials with celebrities and a few other nations might have those aswell.
Sadly there doesn't seem to be much of interest from koreans due to all the koreans being out :l

I'd rather say it's more of a case of TvT & PvP semifinals + only one match per day. Excitement obviously had to go down...hopefully the finals will be epic with a non-mirror and two amazing players that are gaining hype.

Meh, the Korean fans' reactions are just. Naniwa vs HasuObs was a really bad series, and even though a lot of ppl gave Naniwa crap it wasn't nearly as much crap as MC got.

But I feel MC is more targeted due to his (Arrogance? Or his attitude.. But alot of foreigners like MC too)"
And more comments regarding not the games but basically insulting the foreigners for being biased. Saying the last game was worse than the proxy 4 gate by MC in dreamhack and how the matches were really boring. Nothing really worth translating unless you guys want it. Let me know!
As a Western viewer, I feel I have to chime in on what these Korean netizens just said.
Do they think I'm impressed with players like Naniwa because he's Western and he pretty much 4 gated his way to victory in the semi-finals?
Nope. I think at least two of those 4-Gates were cheap victories where Naniwa just overwhelmed HasuObs with units to the point where no amount of uber micro would save him.
In fact, I think HasuObs outplayed him easily (as shown in games 1, 2 and 3 where HasuObs showed way superior micro). It's just a shame that 4-Gate is so imbalanced at the moment that it's prompted Blizzard themselves to increase the research time by 20 seconds and make Sentries produce quicker from a Gateway.
I know I'm gonna get a lot of disagreement here but I'm not exactly a fan of MC becauase he can and does cheese a lot (namely TSL3 Ro16 where he 3-0'd WhiteRa using three consecutive 4 Gate rushes and the Dreamhack finals where he won the tourney using a proxy 2 gateway rush in WhiteRa's base.
However, I do appreciate MC as a player because he can play a straight up macro game and I'm always impressed with him when he does. Namely his series with Thorzain and Game 4 and what a marvellous display of macro and micro from both players.
If you can play arguably one of the most epic matches in Starcraft II's 8 or so month history and come out on top as the victor like that..... then I will have respect for you. And this is EXACTLY what MC did in the TSL Ro8 Game 4.

This is exactly the kind of attitude that they're criticizing. The fact you even think any of the examples you gave for what MC did was cheesy, is what they find funny. What MC did to win Dreamhack finals is technically considered cheese. But in context of the b05 MC recognized White-ra perform the same opening every single time, and MC punished him for it with a proxy 2 gate. Do you not understand how much skill is involved in just being able to make that jump in strategy?
Likewise, 4 gate is standard in PvP. It is the strategy you are suppose to practice and understand. So why does the player executing 4 gate get more flak than the player who fails to defend it? It's like if I called Kas a cheesy scrub for going marine/tank against Nada. You can argue it doesn't take very much skill to perform and that it is terribly unfun to watch, but those are problems with game design rather than the player. Why are you calling the player cheesy for playing standard? Why are you criticizing the player for doing what it takes to win? Hate the game, not the player.
"Wow that was quick" "Here's watch funny about foreigners... After the 4 gate in Dreamhack MC got lots of shit from them. Even when one of the game White-Ra won MC 4 gated. When White-Ra 4 gates they don't say anything and watch in awe. They criticize Koreans when they 4 gate but they except for 1 game it they just 4 gate'd. Sigh... Pretty astounding how little understanding of PvP you have if you think hasuobs was outplaying Naniwa in that series. Fwiw naniwa is perfectly capable of playing macro games as is MC..
I think MC would crush naniwa in a bo7 4-0 with straight 4gate....
After the following patch hasuobs will win many pvps I think,.. he's so damn skilled and naniwa allways talks about his superior technics, I don't see that. ghe's not as good as everyone consider him in my opinion. Hasu is the next toss-leader as whitera was and MC is now... I think.
just my opinion.
ah and to topic: cheese is part on sc2 and its just boring if it works well and the game ends aber 5 mins,... with such bit microbattles like on sunday, it's much fun to watch I think.

When was White-Ra ever "toss-leader"? Might have been, at some point, best non-korean toss, but best in the world? Before MC, that was pretty much Tester, with Genius as a slight outsider for a short time since he won Blizzcon.
Hasu is good, but at this point he was rolled by nani, it wasn't even close. He needs to improve his pvp if that is to change in the near future, patch or not.

Naniwa was on a 36 game Best of X streak that was only broken today by MYMSase and Naniwa was complaining about lag throughout (he was playing from New York on EU). I don't think he has much competition outside of Korea right now. Would MC beat him in a 4gate v 4gate situation prepatch? Probably, but that the effectivity of 4gates have been reduced after the patch so we'll probably see PvP branch out a big more now, giving Naniwa a better chance.
i cant understand people think that mc would win 4-0 vs naniwa ... after ra (in his worst mu pvp) did so close vs him. naniwa for sure could win and at least would take 2-3 games
ps: naniwas whine cause of lag vs sase was predictable cause he whines cause of everthing

"CHILL GET OUT - Funniest moment"
"I heard Naniwa was a bit of a psychopath... I don't know if he's always like this or just acts to be one but it's just a rumor"
"So rude "Chill get out""
"I heard he was like that too when he played WC3. Must be family issues or school issues"
"If Naniwa comes to Korea and acts like that he's in for a beating"
TSL GRAND FINALS REACTION
"4:3 was a really tight match"
"Was an epic series"
"So epic, Wow Thorzain going through fruitdealer, MC, Kas, Naniwa.. And the games were also very epic. It was as big as GSL finals"
"hahaha it was better than GSL finals"
"Thorzain is really good"
"It's been a long time since I felt so nervous. It was so heart wrenching my toto was on the line with the final game. I almost threw up"
"I was really nervous, my heart rate went up so much"
"My hands were sweating the entire match. Must watch for people who haven't seen it. I feel as though there is no skill gap between foreigners and koreans"
"Epic match"
"I wish players like these and top4 of MLG come out and compete in the GSL. I heard Naniwa wanting to attend the GSL often"
"10 times better than all GSL final lol"
"The best moment was "CHILL GET OUT""
"I felt as though the players didn't have a unique style like Nestea. So the games were fun to watch but not as epic. I feel as though Thorzain played worse than when he faced MC"
"I watched all the games through live stream and game 6 when he barely held the rush made me so nervous. As a thorzain fan I was so nervous. When he couldn't repair the bunker i thought it was over. Anyways he pulled an awesome comeback!"
"That moment in game 6 was the highlight I agree. It's more fun if you're rooting for a particular player"
"It's fun a series if you were rooting for a player but I wouldn't call it an epic series. Most of the games were if you defend an all-in rush you win, if you don't you lose. All 4 wins were like that... However I would like to see Naniwa and Thorzain in the GSL"
Really fast translations! Well done Also, thanks for all of your translations throughout the entire TSL. I hope you keep doing them for more events in the future.

Agreed x10! Me and my friend were literally screaming at the top of our lungs. That was probably the most tense/best part of the series.

I just want foreigners to crush the Koreans even more after reading this. Seriously.

If Hasuobs start winning half as much as Naniwa maybe we can start to compare them. Comparing Hasu to MC is also redicilous.

it's not worth it for them to go for GSL spots. They can win a lot more here in Europe or NA

They sound really doubtful, more like hoping rather than faith.

Its still heart-warming, isnt it? Dont know how good the translation is, but i doubt they would use the word 'believe' if MC or NaDa or any other korean would been last to remain.
