Need to do some looking into, this is a hateful post :\ http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=332053¤tpage=6#104he gets flamed too easily. And in case you don't want to watch the video, he gets asked a lot about his personal situation so he did a video just address it, describing everything he's overcome in the past few years and at one part is describing depression/joblessness/almost homelessness whilst selling his stuff to support his wife and their kid (his step son) and says something like "and of course there's always trust issues in such a long distance relationship" and someone decided to take that line and say TB was just making e-drama for attention and/or accusing his wife of cheating on him. Scummy thing to say and obviously not what he was saying but unfortunately TB let it get to him - as understandable as it was. Yeah, but if you're a recognizable community figure, when you put stuff out there like that you have be ready to face stupid comments. It's not an excuse for people making stupid comments, but that's just reality. If one can't handle that, then don't put your personal business out on the internet. Simple as that. I agree he shouldn't have responded, but while the other poster was not writing it very aggressively, he was still heavily implying that TB was using his family situation to drive views, which is incredibly offensive.

It was very passive-aggressive, which is the weapon of argumentative choice these days - at least on the net.
I dunno, I have this gut feeling the TB actually handled that really well - I just am struggling to rationalize, or at least articulate that feeling....
TB is not quite the average 'upstanding figurehead of the community' - imagine if any of the top MLG/GSL casters or even players called someone a 'cunt'. He's pretty unique, I mean he pretty much gets away with these things. Unlike say Idra he doesn't have a reputation (outside of TL) as being rage induced, at least not that I know.
He has this kind of position that allows him to really go toe to toe with an obnoxious poster, not in a rise-above-it way but really going down to their level, even beyond it - which I guess is why he just cut to the chase and accelerated that thread; it could have gone on and on over another 10 pages before being closed, but no, someone made the inevitable claim that TB was creating e-drama out of his personal life, making passive aggressive assertions about his wife's infidelity and TB steps up to, in the words of one poster, 'throw petrol on the flames'.
I dunno how to articulate this - except in that that thread was doomed to die, and TB just made sure it was a brutally quick death.
I guess this is why IntoTheWoW said this is why we can't have anything nice...

I can't say a blame him there. I would take a week's ban to cut that off real hard before "TB infidelity e-drama" became a topic of discussion. If there's one thing that flat-out deserves a "fuck you" in any scenario, it's questioning someone's commitment to their spouse, or accusing them of infidelity. Or even worse, of using that to advance some mythical drama.

Yeah, I agree with you. That comment was obnoxious, and if it was a serious objection it could have been phrased more respectfully. But that doesn't excuse this:

I don't want to rehash all the same crap from that thread, but his response is pretty disproportionate to the comment that was made. If one can't handle a few dumb comments without blowing their stack, then one really needs to ask themselves if they really should be doing what they're doing. And anytime someone brings up how much they "do for esports" it just makes them sound self absorbed; whatever the original intent of the comment was. There are a lot of people who do amazing things for TL and manage to not curse out half a thread, so I'm not sure this is helping....

Or possibly the BM is what gives Idra his power, and without it he is destined to fail.

(I refer to the EG vs TL rivalry which has been going on, money vs heart is how alot of forumusers describe it)
Oh and you should know that Idra hasn't changed, he just wants to participate in TL events basically.

Remember the drama with Puma? That was before HuK. The Orb incident caused them drama with their sponsors, and there were a lot of pointed questions about IdrA's during that whole bit. Add in the drama between IdrA and TB, and IdrA and chill.
Meantime, EG is trying to be a big name in the scene in multiple ways, so yeah, I can see it being a good idea to try to reduce the incoming hatred.

At least now he can enjoy his time in the USA without being distracted by forum trolls.

But the rivalry is almost completely fan made, and describing it as "money vs heart" is kind of ridiculous. I think people feel like they can identify with TL more, since basically everyone in the organization is accessible through these forums, and Liquid'HuK was this especially personable figure in Korea, representing us. Then he went to EG. His personality didn't change, only peoples perceptions, and I think a lot of people found it harder to identify with HuK without he Liquid' tag, and they blamed EG. EDIT: of course this is only part of it... I guess this is sort of off-topic.
In a similar vein, Jinro has some posts that make IdrA look like Sheth.

Yeah, I agree with you. That comment was obnoxious, and if it was a serious objection it could have been phrased more respectfully. I don't want to rehash all the same crap from that thread, but his response is pretty disproportionate to the comment that was made. This is like the third or fourth time he's gone on a rage like this. If one can't handle a few dumb comments without blowing their stack, then one really needs to ask themselves if they really should be doing what they're doing. Dealing with internet "haters" just comes with the territory. Husky has probably taken 10x the hate that TB has gotten; yet Husky has always taken it with the greatest of class and humility, and honestly that's one of the things I really respect him for. And anytime someone brings up how much they "do for esports" it just makes them sound self absorbed; whatever the original intent of the comment was. There are a lot of people who do amazing things for TL and manage to not curse out half a thread, so I'm not sure this is helping.... I was in the middle of all that, and I mean the main reason for responding to him was that I was simply appalled. I cannot BELIEVE that he just.... said that. What the fuck. Regardless of whether or not he was a famous caster, he should have the sense not to say that FFS. Goddamnit. Really pissed me off, honestly.

Eh, he got pissed, lost his temper, and said some stupid shit. It's happened to all of us at some point. The issue is that he's done this repeatedly, he should've learned his lesson by now. Gotta learn to just let shit go.

I don't think so. Idra's bad-boy persona is one of the reasons he's so popular. The arrogant smart-ass attitude is what separates the Grack from everyone else, it's what makes him entertaining. It's the same with MC's merlock costume or TLO's beard: it's what makes them iconic. Without the attitude, Idra is just another SC2 player.
My real theory:
Idra's performance over the last 6 months has been abysmal. He's dropped well below 100 on TLPD's foriegn ELO rank, and hasn't won a single tournament nor even made it to the finals of any major tournament. Somehow, I have to imagine that takes a toll on the confidence of even the BM master himself. As an Idra fan it really kind of sucks to watch. It would be nice to see him tell someone to fuck off, just to let us know the good ol' Idra is still in there.

^^He told Cruncher to fuck off in their NASL match a couple weeks back. It was also his first series win against a protoss in forever so I guess that's a good sign too.
