To be honest I think a lot of the America bashing comes from 2 reasons. First, most people don't seriously follow politics and news in their own country let alone others, and so they only get to see the funny or down right stupid stuff from other countries on Youtube/tv/forums etc and so everything a lot of people in Europe see about the US is the really stupid stuff that comes out of it (and to be fair, you gus do have a few nutters that like being noisy).
Second, calling America stupid has been the popular/cool thing to do for at least a decade now especially with "Bush-isms" being so widely mocked by pop culture, so it's something 'people just do'.
Neither are good reasons to bash an entire country's population, but I reckon they're a large portion of the reasons it happens.

Yeah but by far the most Bush bashing came from Americans, so we only have ourselves to blame for how it affected our nation's image within the popular culture of Europe.

Bush might be / is the reason young people do it but America-bashing goes back all the way to there being an America to bash, some Europeans have always ragged on us for being stupid / dirty / rough / whatever. The current fad of 'stupid greedy warmongers' comes from the Cold War though.
