In Norway we have a word for that; "snerk". It's a really disgusting sounding word, describing a really disgusting thing. I'm sure any other Norwegian you meet can attest to this.
By the way, I noticed three bans for martyring today (and seeing as i'm too lazy to check), was this just a coincidence or was one particular thread just a big martyr-magnet?

Without even checking, my first guess would be Orb related. As soon as I saw that whole stuff, I knew it was bans waiting to happen. It's one of those places where brain-to-keyboard filters are destined to fail.

Ummmm... I feel this was a bit harsh. He wasn't even attempting to flame with what he posted, you have to be more lenient with newbies or strangers to your game, his question was merely seeking basic knowledge. Unless he has a history of doing this sort of thing and you know he's being malicious in which case disregard this post.

Additionally, I feel like some of the direct responses to Sharky246 merit more punishment than Sharkys' post. People quoting him/her and saying "Stop derailing the thread" is a logical fallacy as well as being a dick. This isn't meant to point out any other individuals to garner punishment, just throwing out how I perceive the situation and hopefully gather a few responses.
To touch up on the "Stop derailing thread posts" - Not only do you contribute nothing, but you are actively doing what you are setting out to prevent. You A) Have posted something useless B) Requoted the post that may possibly derail it further if other people see it follow in your example and C) Automatically assume a (possibly) valid question is trolling, and shut the user down in a negative light and shun them from the thread/community.
What do I think would have been the better alternatives to this response?
Good: PMed Sharky246 asking if that was indeed a derailment post or even telling them to straight out "Stop derailing x thread". It is in my belief it is always better to move the discussion to PM's and avoid cluttering up the thread
Better: Don't say anything at all, if you don't have anything nice to say. Also if there is a Mod warning, you may point them toward that direction but don't take it upon yourself to directly tell people to kindly be quiet.
Best: Give them a short and concise answer to their inquiry. In this case something along the lines of.
"Hey Sharky246, there are many contributing factors to why LoL is more popular than Dota even if it is a game originating from Dota. For instance, LoL is free to play, as well as less demanding of a computer graphically making it more available to the majority of gamers as opposed to Dota. Additionally LoL gameplay is seen as more fun to play and casually entertaining than Dota while being less hardcore. These are some of the most important factors, to why I think LoL is more popular than Dota"

Its an LR thread, not a thread to debate or ask why one game is more watched then the other. Clearly a flame-inviting post and whether it was intended as a troll or legitimate it shouldn't be asked in an LR thread.
Go into a BW LR thread and ask why SC2 is watched so much more and see how long you last with a moderator.
To try and get this back to funny bans and the discussion of them I found this one pretty humorous
