Not sure if it applies to any or all his bans or warnings, but just wanted to throw that up for consideration. No, he was just a dick. I can see why you're saying this. Was watching Destiny and Desrow was talking and he just doesn't seem like a very amicable guy, straight-forward or not. I guess having a bad history makes things even worse. Edit: So I don't up post count needlessly. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=206070Haha, holy crap ban trap thread! XD Following a link there to the mod feedback forum Are Meat/Nazgul so Legendary they dont have post counts anymore? click on their profiles, they still have post-counts. they just aren't show publicly for admins anymore

being desrows teammate i can personally vouch that desrow's english, although being good, lacks many social conventions leading things to be said that are widely unacceptable in the english speaking world and i don't think it would be fair to say his underlying motivations are malevolent. Obviously the blatant self promotion thread is against TL rules and was rightfully closed. I feel a temp ban would have been more effective as we at VT gaming can ensure that desrow understands that funny youtube videos no matter how special are not acceptable on TL, and that if he wishes to do offsite self promotion it must always be a sponsored thread.

On top of that he has five warnings since September 2010. That's 9 moderation actions in 8 months.
He's just a really, really bad poster. He has several mod notes saying that and indicating that his next ban will be a permanent.
It's unfortunate that one of your players was permanently banned from our website, but he was given every opportunity to change his posting.

Very unfortunate indeed, thanks for taking the time to consider and post all the evidence which was far more than i was expecting. I can now rest knowing this wasn't a rash decision that it appeared to be from the original reason for ban statement.

Thanks for making that post Chill. It captures the reason for the ban; I'm sorry the ban explanation wasn't as thorough.
Update on desrow, though: in PMs to me and HB he has explained that he is trying hard to improve his posting, and we agreed he deserves another chance. His ban is being considerably shortened.

That's good to hear, JWD. I've checked out Desrow's stream a couple of times, and each time I found myself genuinely entertained (oftentimes, streams tend to bore me fairly quickly, with rare exceptions like Geoff's stream). It's nice that you and Hot_Bid have elected to grant him another chance.
A couple of questions, though: How will this affect his status as a featured streamer? Will this privilege be revoked until Desrow has shown that his posting quality improved, will it be reinstated immediately, or has he forever lost this right?
Also, am I correct in assuming that any further offense will result in a final, permanent ban?

Also, am I correct in assuming that any further offense will result in a final, permanent ban? His status as a featured streamer won't change; in general as long as a streamer has an active (not permbanned) TL account his stream will keep its status. Streaming is not very related to posting (as desrow's case illustrates).
As always, future offenses will be dealt with as they pop up. Can't say with certainty whether any user will be permed for something he hasn't done yet.

Was this recently changed ? I thought the time Idra got temp banned for the whole manifesto thing his stream didn't show up any more on TL.

What JWD is saying is that a streamer's featured status only depends on the quality of his stream, not on the quality of his posting.

While you are temp or perm banned, your stream doesn't show up on TL's online list.

That's because if you're banned you can't set your stream to Online. When the ban is lifted, you can again. The stream isn't featured, it's just never "on". Obviously, permban sort of defeatures a stream as well.

Right on, thanks for clarifying Chill and tofucake. The point I was trying to get across in my first post above is that being tempbanned doesn't by default permanently alter the status of a stream at TL (kick it off the list or demote it from being featured).

It is very kind of you guys to give desrow another chance, I hope that will be the last of his mod history.
On another topic, it is pretty amazing how valuable TL is for competitive gamers. the fact that TL is the central "Hub" of the starcraft scene outside of korea means that maintaining an account here is incredibly important for networking, PR, and just getting your name out there for teams and individuals. It's funny how some players need TL more then TL needs them :p
So thanks to the mods for giving this talented player one more shot at keeping his account.

Reason: 1984 Posts have been nuked. Anybody able to find out about this. Very intriguing. My guess is a complaint about the ubiquitous mods. Paranoia for the win! http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=212034 is where it's from. Kennigit's last comment (before this one) was far better. I wish I remembered it.
Hilarious ban, and Kennigit's comment to top it off. HAHA Kennigit.

I can't help but feel that this is a prelude to something, for better or worse. That, or the mods are messing with my head... I just saw this one in the ban list. Made me burst out laughing.

You mean for the competitive world. It's just this staple that keeps everything together. I think that's why it's a must they keep it at a high quality or standard (and they know this).
EVERYTHING IS MAKING SENSE NOW! I SEE IT!

danielsan was just banned by Puosu.
That account was created on 2010-12-12 22:19:31 and had 399 posts.
Reason: Months of constant douchebaggery. So I confused this guy with itsdaniel and I was really sad when I saw him be so abrasive in some LR threads. I'm really glad that I was wrong and it's not the same person. It would be sad if someone as awesome as itsdaniel turned to be a douchebag and had to be banned.
I guess that doesn't really make sense. If they were a douchebag then they obviously can't be awesome.
