Yeah, but the early HS criticism wasn't "competitive HS is silly." That's the modern take. I'm not sure if I hold it, but I don't watch competitive HS since I think it's boring, which might be a version of the same idea.

But the necroed thread was mostly initial reactions to the announcement of somthing big. Now, admittedly, the thread was abuzz with the idea of Starcraft: Ghost or Project Titan or Blizz Allstars (combo-breaker!), so it's no huge surprise that the initial reaction was mostly: "What? Is that it? April Fools? Card game on PC? WTF? What is Blizz thinking?!?!?"

But we all know HS went on to be massively successful and popular. Hell, it stole Day[9] from us Starcraft fans, which you can hardly blame him for due to all the visibility Hearthstone has. I have a ton of super-casual friends who would never dream of playing Starcraft, or even Heroes, who love Hearthstone to death. And the numbers of HS players is now way in excess of WoW players (and maybe all Blizz games combined), which is saying something.

What is it saying though? I'm pretty sure Candy Crush has more players than all of Blizz, EA and Ubisoft's games combined. Games designed to be picked up and understood within minutes by people with little to no experience with video games (and that's a lot of people) are played by a lot of people. Not much to see here.

he's saying that it's more popular and the next big thing. I have many friends who play/played HS but most never took starcraft, so, ya, it makes sense that blizzard will want to give support to their biggest cash maker (you can buy stuff in HS, yes?)

Yes, there are additional non-card-pack microtransactions you can buy. Just cosmetics obviously, but I think that makes a lot of money for companies.

yeah you can buy gold and spend it on packs. in fact the bigger HS gets the better because new players are going to join and a lot of them are going to probably pay because it doesn't realy work that well trying to do ftp

I tried playing free-to-play and it wasn't great. I wasn't earning enough gold to buy the packs from HS vanilla, and HS's expansion, AND have enough to save up and buy "adventures" (they're a lot like WoW raids). I reckon that if I spent $30 on the adventure and cracked ~20 packs I might've had a playable-ish deck. Luckily the game in casual mode was still playable, but ranked was a nightmare.

I no nothing about that guy, so I have obviuously no idea of what's going on in his life, but from the surface it quite looks that he just went to enjoy the game instead of endless fighting those who can't see how great it is.

I searched too and felt / hoped he went on "forced" tl holiday and wished to convey it to us in that manner.

Have a good holiday zenith, hope you read this in a month's time not before.

I sometimes wonder if the self-imposed ban is really effective. I spend maybe 90% of my time just lurking, so I doubt it would really change the viewing experience all that much.

If post count is indicative of having a problem, I think plenty of interventions are in order.

1. We admitted we were powerless over Team Liquid—that our lives had become
unmanageable.
2. Came to believe that a Terran greater than ourselves could restore us to
sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we
understood Him.
4. Made a searching and fearless inventory of our post history.
5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature
of our wrongs.
6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
8. Made a list of all users we had harmed, and became willing to make
amends to them all.
9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do
so would injure them or others.
10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were posting too much and promptly
admitted it.
11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with
God, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us
and the power to carry that out.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to
carry this message to Liquidiholics, and to practice these principles in all our
affairs.

I'd be much more active if the Brood War scene weren't as slow as it is now. Even for big events, people tend not to use the LR all that much.

My point was only that for a guy that posts 10 times you do, being barred from doing so is probably quite impfactul.

ya, you're right, the BW scene is a little slow but TLC should help that a bit. Most people use twitch chat and it makes for a great viewing experience since mods ban those who try to start fights and flame. LRs are used more for SSL and KSL while chat for TLC and likely, TLS
