BarCraft Sweden
[image loading]

Reaching out to the masses of awesome nerds can be pretty tough, and keeping track of BarCrafts can be pretty hard, so wouldn't it be great to have one thread where all the upcoming BarCrafts in Sweden could be posted?

Similar to the concept of a fanclub, I thought we could add all the Swedes that are interested in attending BarCrafts in the future, just to roughly estimate how many we are

Please feel free to comment on any past or upcoming BarCraft events, and do upload pictures taken during the event if possible!

So post here and enlighten your fellow nerds about the awesome events taking place!

Could everyone who posts please also mention what city you live in, that would definitely help out with the communication during upcoming events !

I'll start of with a couple of pictures from the BarCraft I attended tonight, enjoy !

Such a fun event, the atmosphere was electrifying. One of the best parts of the evening was when I went to get some beers and I bumped into 3 drunk guys who had no idea what was on the screen and I started explaining what was going on and all and they actually got interested. Will definitely attend more of these, Retro did a great job.

Is there anything like this being planned in Umeå? I've moved here rather recently, and would be nice to meet other people into the esports scene, especially when it involves watching stuff live and yelling like an idiot .

OT : I have a cousin studying up north in Umeå by the way!
Ye getting something like this together might be abit time consuming but during weekends/holidays it might be possible? Does any one know when the IPL grand finals take place?
I'm assuming everyone commentating in this thread are willing to attend future BarCraft events, and therefore I'll add you to the list !

I was at the one in Uppsala. Awesome atmosphere. Hope we manage to get two venues in Uppsala next time or just a larger pub. It got a bit crowded near the end. Must have been 150 people there in a rather small place. Most of the people who were there had to stand up.

Awesome! I live there, and a bunch of friends have been talking about bringing BarCraft to Umeå. I'm sure there are a lot of Starcraft fans here and i can name about 15 just from the top of my head. Unfortunately I don't really have time to organize it (studies and so on), but let's hope someone else can do it.

Great initiative Coal!

Btw, I'd like to be added to the fan list. Should that be organized based on what (big) city the user is from or closest to? Just a thought.

Aye, it was kind off small, when I watched the videos from O'Learys in Stockholm I got kinda jealous Hopefully we can expand to a bigger bar next time, or simply have BarCrafts in several locations!

Skellefteå isn't that far away from Umeå. Maybe a friend in town can hook you up with a place to stay for one night? There are also buses.

A friend of mine from Umeå has been in contact with O'Learys here. They talked about possibly showing Dreamhack Valencia, but unfortunately there was a some big hockey game that night. They did sound very positive about the whole idea, however, so they are definitely interested!

Amazing! But i want to know what the owners of the bars thought about this, I mean i'm sure they had no idea what they were getting into. It would be awesome if someone could do an interview with one of them. Just to get their perspective, how they liked it, their expectations and stuff like that. Oh and ofc if they're willing to do it again.

And lets make Barcraft Gothenburg happen!

I think it is quite simple. Did they by lots of booze? If yes, then the owners liked it

I was at O'Leary's, was great, but would have been greater if I had booked a table because the place was packed and standing up is tiresome :p

Next time!
Excuse me hun, but what is your name? Vivian? I woke up next to you naked and, uh, did we, um?

it's nice for us cave dwellers to leave the cave every now and then, and these events are the only time where Bronze leaguers get to look down on the masters league players, seeing as bronze leaguers actually have a life.

and this is coming from a Masters league zerg here.
all muta all the time.

Aye... booking tables before would've been a cleaver idea, me and my friends were ridiculed, seeing as almost everyone else had booked a table, the bar in Uppsala (Red Room) was good, but a bit to small :/ Hopefully we will be able to have the next BarCraft at O'Learys!

I was fortunate enough to have a friend that is more intelligent than me that booked a table beforehand. it was a wise decision. although sitting down you tend to get a lot of "less fortunate" people standing in the way of the screens.

Edit: To clarify, my post is about the Uppsala Barcraft, Red Room.

I asked one of the bartenders a bit what he thought about it while I was there. He basically said that it was nice, a lot of people, but they drink a bit less than they(Red Room) are used to. I also asked what he thought about doing this again and he said "Yea, absolutely".

Oooh famous people posting! Welcome Satiini :D @ Ashzala, great news! Though Red Room wasn't really adequate :/ If BarCraft continues to grow in the same rapid pace as its currently doing, we'll have to get a bigger bar :D

You know what, I might just be getting half blind or something, because I did look in the OP before I posted...

That said, I definitely had one of the better viewpoints in the bar with the big TV to the right of me. Doesnt show very well in the movie I took, but man, it was the perfect spot.

Registered because of these things, 'tis was awesome!

Though you should mention Ina (the white haired girl in valencia etc) for starting this up, she kind of paved the way and made it 1000% easier to anyone else to start a barcraft (due to the huge success at retro most places were open for the event but from what I heard she had a hard time getting a spot for the first one)

Haven't heard anything about her.. seems like a nice gal but her English(not to mention the rest of Aftonbladet's crew) is pretty terrible But if she started this, she deserves mad props! I'll look into it !

Retro and The Crib is already booked for Dreamhack Winter finals, it will maybe even be a two-day event.

We have a few other dates we are looking into, like MLG Global that I think someone already mentioned here in this thread.

It seems Swedish e-sport has come far the last 2-3 years. I think this is totally awsome. Not only that people are able to get to together and watch SC but that theyre able to do it at somewhat decent locations on top of that.

Looking forward to come back to Sweden in March. Will definitely barcraft with a couple of friends as soon as I can find time.

SC2 hasn't really grown in Ireland yet huh ? And regarding the language, it's crap compared to English =( (the actual country is great though <3)

Hi,

We are arranging a Barcraft-event @ Göteborgs nation in cooperation with Rakaka.se, scheduled to take place during the MLG Invitational Europe @ October 11th. We will have quizes/etc with prizes sponsored by Rakaka, such as Battlefield 3 and FIFA 12 (optional platforms).

So it is not going to be anynthing on O'Learys anymore?

And you need a "kårleg" to be on Göteborgs Nation?

This sucks.

I hope as few as possible show up so it gets done in a ordinary bar next time .

Edit: What kårleg means is that you need to be a university student in Uppsala to get into the bar.

This event was created parallelly with the one at Olearys, and its main focus was and is still is students due to the fact it is being held at a student nation. Olearys seem to have kinda ditched the other guys as Sweden's national soccer team is playing against Holland at the same day. So it's not really a relocated event but a a whole different one. I am sorry that you feel this way and that you seem to believe that people who are trying to support the e-sport - despite that it's being held at a nation - suck

If that had been clear from the beginning I would probably just have ignored it, gotten grumpy, and move on.

Who knows.

Mjeeh I wish it was in Gothenburg instead of Gothenburgs Nation. Really would like to see some barcraft here too :/ I wonder what place would host that though (no student pub since I'm not a student anymore .

Hi fellow geeks, this is quite a late announcement, and it will probably not reach a lot of people, but it's better late than never!

There will be a Barcraft in ÖSTERSUND, Jämtland, this friday!

What we're watching: IPL#3 Origins
Time: Friday 16:00 - Saturday 02:00 (GMT +1, Swedish time ofc ^^)
Place: News Bar & Kök (Just to the left of ICA Traktören which is right below Kyrkparken, below Sibylla 11:ans, and above Stortorget)

Ofc you have to be 18+ to come.

And that's it. Feels really strange to write this in English as probably everyone coming will be Swedish, but forum rules are forum rules...

See ya there!

I'm considering a weekend in Östersund now

But isn't the soccer match Finland - Sweden on Friday evening?
Could you please confirm that you won't show soccer on friday instead of starcraft 2?

Also a good idea would be to post the event on the swedish barcraft homepage.

My friend, who spoke to the bar owner, has arranged it to be Starcraft on the big screen. News Bar & Kök isn't like Olearys in the way they show sports. Well, usually there is like Eurosport on their screen, but nobody's ever watching. If people want to see the football game, they can simply go to Olearys just down the street.

The worst thing that can happen now, is that the bar owner decides to be an asshole and turns us down in the last minute, but let's not hope for that.

Sigh... I lived 200 m from News in Östersund a few years ago. If I was anywhere close to Östersund today I'd definately have been there.

I was one of the Co-organizers.

It went pretty well. The first day we were planned to be about 20-25 people but since the stream wasn't working people dropped off untill we had to cancel the event.

On saturday we were about 10 but we had a good time none the less.

Right, that wasn't how I would tell it... I think it was an utter failure, and all because of the internet failure... -.- The amount of bad luck was just unreal. Yes we were expecting quite a few the first day, but since it failed hard I think most people lost their faith, and so nobody came the next day. And we were only 6-8 people watching on saturday.

The bar owner also seemed to doubt our event, he kept asking whether more people would be arriving soon the second day. If we're going to arrange another one in the future, we better have like 20 names ready, and only have barcraft one night. I think it was a bit too optimistic to introduce Östersund to this by streaming for 20 hours in total spanning two days.

And god damn it those bar chairs were killing my ass after 5 hours SC2 straight the 2nd day... xD

Well in short it was a fail, but 90% due to bad luck and 10% due to too much optimism. At least we learned something of it! :D

Uhh, lol. How is that any different from what he said? It's pretty much the exact same thing. First day got unlucky with their internet/stream, second day there were less people. It's not like 8 people is far from about 10 people, not really sure what your point is tbh

And I don't see the point with your response...? I retold it exactly how it was, LiaT held in the bad stuff. Had I been a random reading his post I'd interpret the event as decently successful. It was not.

Good news for the SC2 fans in Umeå. Kårhuset Origo at Umeå University will host a Barcraft on the 23 of October for the ESWC Finals! With it being a student organization, I'm expecting a lot of people there. More info can be found at the Facebook Event!

I did not help with the creating of this event (just thought I'd post it here for all to see). So if anyone involved would like to take credit and post some more details here, please do

Edit: I can confirm that a "kårleg" is not required to attend this event. You do need to be over 18 years old, however.

BarCraft in Lund November 26th 15.00-23.00 Most likely at O'Learys but nothing sure just yet.

Spread the word and invite your friends list to the group and the event that is posted in the group. If they agree to host the event we have to come up with the clientele.

The Student Union Origo that holds the Barcrafts in Umeå has a FB page where they link all Barcraft (and other) events.

I don't live close enough to go to this, but I encourage everyone who does to go and support it so that people see that this is a profitable thing to host at their pubs/clubs/whatever. The more people that go the more chance we have of arranging future events :D

Yeah, exactly.. My boss is sooo pesimistic to this. Though as the events is closing up it seems like the turn up will be pretty good. At least I'm hoping...would just loooove to see esport growing also in smaller cities like mine
