But seriously though, obesechicken13, do starting strength, get some muscular bodyweight. I suspect you'll look and feel better if you were a bit more muscular and bigger. You're likely to lower your bodyfat % as well from the first few months of training. You shouldn't worry about losing weight at all and I would definitely advise you gain at least 35lbs to not be an emaciated concentration camp survivor. Ask Eshlow all about it, I don't really feel like telling you what to do and why. The guy who owns the peaks weightlifting club I'm considering going to won the 2005 Masters Championships with a snatch of 65kg and a c+j of 90kg in the 55-59 age group at the 105kg class. I'm not really sure what's considered good at that age, but I think I'll go over there at least once and meet the guy and check the place out. I'm sure I could hit those numbers in the first few months of training for olympic lifting. Thanks for the link to the club directory!

Serioulsy man, the last thing you want to do is lose weight, put on some muscle, all the info you need is in this thread ![]() If you don't have enough energy to get through the day right now, it is probably that you already don't eat enough (given your weight and height, that seems very likely).

I just went on my first run in 5 months, 8kms(5miles). The last 2-3km I was going over some stuff in my head and the run felt like an outer body experience where my body was just gliding along the footpath. I sprinted the last 200 metres and collapsed on my lawn.

Best runs ever are like this (at least afterwards^^), besides the 5months break of course ![]() Yesterday I did Front Squats seriously and with respectable weight for the first time, finally have the mobility in my wrists that I need. I haven't been sore in weeks, and now the back of my shoulders and the top of my lats are seriously sore (actually I'm still trying to figure out which muscles exactly. Didn't expect that at all, but after evaluating the FS in my head again, it kinda makes sense. Weight Lifting is awesome.

Are you lean or a bit overweight? 5'11 and I bike 4 miles to my campus twice a day five times a week, so still on the skinny/lean side. I will go up to the 105kg class eventually but I'm going to stay at 94kg for a while because I've been bulking hard for 9 months straight. On April 02 2010 12:12 AoN.DimSum wrote: OMG someone training in oly lifts!! Where do you live?, I really would suggest a coach. i'm trying to look for the link of all the gyms http://weightlifting.teamusa.org/pages/1808 There's a crossfit with a few coaches where I live but they want to charge me like 60$/hour. They're level 1 crossfit olympic weightlifting coaches and frankly that's just way too much money for somebody who's probably not actually that good at coaching the lifts. The peaks weightlifting club is in my town(Flagstaff, AZ), but it's like 20+ miles away and I don't have a car. I would still consider making a trip out there or asking somebody to give me a ride because I've heard good things about it. There's another place right behind my apartment with bumpers/platforms which is the gym I'm going to be switching to. I really doubt anyone there can coach the olympic lifts but I guess it's a possibility. http://www.mikesgym.org/programs/index.php and http://www.cathletics.com/ are some nice websites, I don't know many. If you really cant get a coach, you can post videos of your form here, I can help a little bit. Funny you should link those, I just discovered the catalyst athletics website a week ago and went through a few of the videos. That Aimee Anaya woman is very strong for a U.S. weightlifter, and she looks to be a little bit old too. I dunno how I missed the Greg Everett book on Olympic Weightlifting. I'll definitely invest in a copy if getting coaching doesn't work out. As far as programming though, i definitely want to do something that allows me to train the power lifts and the olympic lifts. I'll be sticking with the 70sbig.com program. Mark Rippetoe has used it on some new weightlifting trainees at his gym, I expect it'll make it into the next edition of practical programming or ss. One trainee, Brian, progressed on it all the way to squatting 500x3x5 and c+jing 155kg. Everett's book is good. Feel free to post over at Catalyst Athletics/Performance Menu. Bunch people that Oly lift will generally reply and Greg often does at times as well. But yeah, getting a coach is preferable. However, we'll try to help you out as much as possible. (I moderate over there & my training log is there).
