My bench basically didn't improve for several weeks now and gives me more trouble than all the other lifts combined (which all go up constantly). Yesterday I did around 15 sets of bench pressing. Experimenting with grip width, elbow position, Overhand vs Hook Grip, foot positioning, back angle... finally a new 5RM, but still have a lot of testing to do. I find it really difficult.

Those numbers are around finishing linear progression or basic barbell strength training. I'd probably say about +.3-.4 bodyweight is about the same for pullup or chinup On March 30 2010 20:38 Disregard wrote: For some reason my right rotator cuff loses any feeling when I benchpress, while my left shoulder still retains strength. Any effective exercises to warmup and fix the strain, preferably with the resistance band? There's a lot of problems that it could be. There is numbness? That's likely an issue with pinching of the nerves in the brachial plexus.... Poor posture, and poor technique would be likely contributers. Change your technique, AND improve your posture. Possibly get some deep tissue massages, etc.

Bodyweight: 197.8lbs Squat: 265x3x5 (5 reps 3 sets) Deadlift: 327.5x7 Bench: 195x3x5 Press: 120x3x5 Powerclean:150x5x3 ![]() Chin-up: bw+25x5 Will be up to 200 pretty soon and I'll probably stop at 206 so I can compete in the 94kg class. I'm still doing starting strength: the advanced novice with powercleans and dls once a week instead of alternating them every other week. Once school ends and I change gyms, I'm going to change my programming to the novice olympic weightlifting program Justin Lascek came up with on 70sbig.com: Monday Clean and Jerk heavy Snatch for sets across Tuesday Squat Press Chin-ups Wednesday Off Thursday Snatch heavy Clean and jerk singles across Friday Squat Bench Deadlift Heavy days on the oly lifts just means working up to 1-3 heavy singles, sets across is 10-12 timed singles at less weight (1 minute snatch, 2 minutes cj). Does anyone know of any good resources for learning the olympic lifts? I'm not going to have any coaching for these and to my knowledge there's no comprehensive literature allowing you to teach yourself the lifts like there is for the slow lifts (starting strength obv). I have a feeling I'm really going to be struggling with the snatch, I'm still barely developing the balance and flexibility to do a snatch grip overhead squat without plates under my feet. I guess that'll get better when I invest in some weightlifting shoes, but it wouldn't hurt to be flexible enough to do them barefoot. Also I'm pretty sure i'm going to be taking like a 20 minute break after bench press on friday. I haven't been able to squat and deadlift heavy on the same day and still make consistent prs in quite a while.

Are you lean or a bit overweight? 5'11 and I bike 4 miles each way to my campus 5 days a week, so still on the skinny/lean side. I will go up to the 105kg class eventually but I'm going to stay at 94kg for probably a year or so because I've been bulking hard for 8 months straight and it has not been a pleasant experience. They're level 1 crossfit olympic weightlifting coaches and I think that's just way too much money for somebody who's probably not actually that good at coaching the lifts. Frankly those cultfilt fuckers are always just weird kool-aid drinkers anyway. I really would like a good coach though, my best full clean is 185x1 and I have never performed a proper jerk without a little bit of press-out. The peaks weightlifting club is in my town(Flagstaff, AZ), but it's like 20+ miles away and I don't have a car. I would still consider making a trip out there or asking somebody to give me a ride because I've heard good things about it. There's another place right behind my apartment with bumpers/platforms which is the gym I'm going to be switching to. I really doubt anyone there can coach the olympic lifts but I guess it's a possibility.

Funny you should link those, I just discovered the catalyst athletics website a week ago and went through a few of the videos. That Aimee Anaya woman is very strong for a U.S. weightlifter, and she looks to be a little bit old too. I dunno how I missed the Greg Everett book on Olympic Weightlifting. I'll definitely invest in a copy if getting coaching doesn't work out. As far as programming though, i definitely want to do something that allows me to train the power lifts and the olympic lifts. I'll be sticking with the 70sbig.com program. Mark Rippetoe has used it on some new weightlifting trainees at his gym, I expect it'll make it into the next edition of practical programming or ss. One trainee, Brian, progressed on it all the way to squatting 500x3x5 and c+jing 155kg.

And I do weigh 135 lbs I don't carry an extra 40lbs,sry. I just mean... that some people do(computer engineers)... and I don't want to be like them. My normal weight last year was about 120... I fluctuate from fit to slightly flabby summer -> winter. I'm kinda skinny, though.
