I've been out of the gym for some time now, still maintaing at same weight, got 10 more kg to drop. My XR rings came the other day and I'm wondering if a routine like
XR pushups XR rows Dips Inverted curls HeSPU Pull up
3 times a week looks good? I plan to progress with exercises as per "Gymnastic bodies". I'm not sure if I should 3x5 or 5x5 yet. Also I'm not really interested in the static strength positions. Leg work isn't that important to me but I'm gonna be riding a bike/doing some HIIT here and there, should I incorporate BW squats -> pistons too?

I'm the go to guy when my friends want to know something or to be inspired to work out. I knew that I'd exercise less after SC2 launch. But I've kept going strong. Before SC2 launch I was at the gym or tracks 4-5 days a week. Now it is more like 3. But I consider that well above average. This is me before SC2 launch. http://gogo-martin.blogspot.com/2010/07/pre-starcraft-2-shape.htmlI'm currently low diamond (1100-1200) at EU server. 200+ bonus points. I've experienced that a couple of times now, and it is rather annoying. It would be a shame if I can't play after working out. Anyone else experienced this? Woho a swede!! And a good looking one as well, holy shit! O__O
I just drink some nice protein drink and stretch my forearms and then I'm good to go after a workout. But I only do this after I've been deadlifting, otherwise I don't need it.

Even push pressing or push jerking that after only 2-3 months would be amazing. On an unrelated note, I'm sick too Dimsum. I was just sick literally a month ago and it took me a full 3 weeks to get my squat back up. I also dug up this article on vitamin C and colds: http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelatedTopics/DSH/colds.htmlThere are some clinical studies showing that zinc can reduce length/severity of symptoms. But things like airborne and vitamin c are likely totally useless.
Yep, vitamin C is useless for colds.
But vitamin D isn't.

Yeah that would explain it. Push press is probably a better lift overall, the main reason Rip has strict presses written in is because push pressing will eventually potentially interfere with your squats since driving the bar up uses the same muscles as the ones you squat with.

Today's workout:
BB Bench Press: 77,5kg 5x5 (+2,5kg! Up from 60kg 5x5 on September 13th) Close Grip: 70kg x 8 and 75kg x 8 (+7,5!!! Was happy with the first set but engaged insanity mode and crushed my old all time PR!)

edit: shit after checking BMI calculator im soon going to be in the overweight range if im not careful.
BMI is worthless.
im doing as much pushups as i can and that+ the above stated are basically my whole exercise schedule lol. what can i do to optimize this and make it more 'legit'. want to get rid of overall excess fat, especially at stomach. also want to get pecs going (whats good for these?)... man boobs are going to show soon which is bad.
You don't have a barbell gym available to you? No heavier dumbbells to work with?
To lose weight, diet is the most important thing. Just don't eat any carbohydrates aside from the trace amounts found in your green vegetables, cut out ALL sugar including (especially including) high fructose corn syrup, and snack on nuts if you get hungry.
With a heavy lifting program and this diet, fat practically melts off of you.

Had the most ridiculously inspired workout today. At the top of every rep i just say to myself "NATIONALS". Despite a charlie horse and a minor pull in my ham string i had a great squat workout of 8x225,235,265,285,315,330 And then did some OHP (trying to do this at least twice a week till i put on some seriously shoulder strength) for 3x5 @ 135 And then some pull ups 4xfailure and then a few sets of planks and weighted sit ups and then i still had more energy so i benched 3x5 @ 225 And now i still have more energy
BEAST MODE for the next 10 days or so. I really hope we win (which we should) because i'm ready to ride this hype train all the way to may. Otherwise i'll just be really sad

we play soccer or basketball every other day or so for 1-2 hours. if not we run on our own for a mile or 2.

If you have any access to a barbell that'd be awesome. a few light dumbells aren't gonna do a whole lot for you. Big arms are fairly useless unless you just plan on standing around girls while wearing too small t-shirts. If you want to lose fat, do hi intensity training like circuits or sprints. Combine this with a ~300-500 calorie deficit every day and you'll get pretty ripped. If you want pecs you need to bench. Other wise i guess you just have to do increasingly difficult push ups? Sounds like bodyweight exercises are a good option for you like these: http://www.dragondoor.com/articler/mode3/229/ Some other good ones are manna and pistols. Ask eshlow and travis for more info on that branch, i'm more of a weights guy. And BMI is retarded, according to that i'm borderline obese (lolz) when i'm in super good shape. Body fat % is a better indicator.

So I'm up 17 pounds in two months of training. As far as I can tell, it's at least majority lean mass, as I'm not seeing an increase in body fat. Room mate is a wrestler, has been lifting for four or five years, nutrition minor, concerned with diet, drinks protein shakes, works out on a six-day split, has to stay in a weight class, blah blah blah. Basically, dude's experienced and pretty jacked. Saw me with no shirt while I was walking to the shower the other day and promptly announces "F*** YOU MAN, you're double the size you were when we got here." Refuses to speak to me about gym ever since.
Knee allows me to squat maybe once a week - and with reduced weight from what I could be doing. I'm making absolutely no progress on this lift compared to how I was/should be, and it's making me ANGRY. RAWR. Oh well. I'll get it looked at when I go home - in the mean time, I can at least work on improving my form. Maybe I'll take a video next time I'm up to squatting and get some feedback from all of you.
BMI is lolzy. It's telling me that (touch under 6'4, 165 pounds) I'm on the upper end of "normal" body weight, and that, should I hit my goal (185, BUT THAT'S JUST A NUMBER) I'll be considered borderline overweight. BS. I've seen 200 pound men at my height that don't appear overweight, let alone obese.
Also, I've been put in charge of the exercise of a close friend of mine - a girl I know here at Syracuse. Being a girl, she's not too terribly interested in what SS has to offer (lol) but she IS interested in losing weight, appearing fit, blah blah blah look good naked. I'm positive I can convince her to lift SOME weights in addition to the cardio that she'll want to do... but I need some resources as far as what we should be doing. Anyone have any helpful links?

If you can convince a girl to squat and deadlift that is such a huge win. Perfect legs and ass. Not to mention she'll burn fat and have a sexxxxxy core. God damn i wish they would all squat

An overwhelming majority of girls don't like doing physically hard things. Even if they knew that squatting/dling would help them reach their ass/legs goals, they'd still rather cardiobunny around.

This comes across as nothing more than sexism to be honest.
I think the problem lay more in society's expectation of women and definition of beauty: that smaller is better. The thinnest woman is considered the most beautiful woman, which is why women everywhere have such a distorted sense of health and ideal anatomy. Our society has warped their perceptions of beauty and told them that their primary focus should be burning fat off; they aren't lazy to only do cardio. They're just deathly afraid of putting on any weight through resistance training.
And anyway, who in their right mind would actually prefer cardio over weight lifting? I've never met a single person--man or woman--who liked to jump on the treadmill for an hour. It's boring, exhausting, and far more of a challenge than doing a set of five every few minutes.

I'm talking about the reason why they don't hit the weights. I honestly think it has far less to do with it being "hard" than it does with what they feel it will do to their bodies.
Weightlifting is considered a masculine sport used for muscle growth. Women are told constantly that any amount of size on them is unacceptable. What do you think this is going to result in?

The admiration of the few who choose to do weights, not for their muscle strength but for the toning of their ass and legs.
FUCK YES.
