No the people who have played in this for years aren't going to learn anything but the ones who haven't played for long (or are just getting into the more serious side of Dota) can learn plenty from this, and a lot more than they can from matchmaking.

there isnt that much you need to "learn" dota is a simple game unlike sc2. you can learn all about dota but if you're bad at video games you will still feed.

Personally, I stopped playing matchmaking altogether. Such a gamble, even with some unusual drafts TLIHs give me a better time.

With an attitude like "Oh, it's okay, I'll feed because I'm new/bad", that most noobies in TLIH have, you're certainly not going to learn anything.  Fun factor does mostly depend on who you get to play hero wise.

It's not too clear from the OP, but are there usually games around evening (EU time) ? Are these announced or talked about in "tlih" (in-client) ? I did not see much of anything when I joined in that channel last night.
Also, how much is #tl.dota2 used for TLIH, it seemed mostly talk about pro dota (and fair enough!) ?

Timezone question is answered in both the tl;dr spoiler as well as the faq. But yes, they tend to start in the evening for EU.
The irc channel is for tl dota people in general but several TLIH regulars hang out there.

generally if the host isnt someone who is recognized by the regulars people wont join, especially when there is already another one going on (which there is atm). Nothing is actually stopping you tho, especially if you advertise it in the TLIH channels.
