It's ok, 5600x is just like 60% faster.

3300x is in short supply as well

My new rig is running reasonably smoothly, did a clean install and advice in this thread was great.

Has one of those nvme SSDs, not sure if it’s really fast, or I was just used to my previous 10 year old rig.

I’m looking to (finally) have one machine with enough storage to hold my files, for years I’ve split things across rigs and various cloud services and hard drives. Plus have as many local games installed as possible.

Vague plan of action is another SSD to have games and programs on, and a big HDD for bog standard files and schoolwork/photos/music etc, and keep the boot drive reasonably light and tidy.

Is that a sensible course of action and if so, what are the kind of baseline specs I should be looking for for drives for these purposes.

Can post my overall build if that’s needed for advice.

In another more specific question, I’m having some issues trying to get my Switch Pro controller working. Took a while to even detect it (I had to disable my USB controllers power saving options), but it works fine with Steam games.

Unfortunately my kiddo is over and is much more interested in GamePass options, and it doesn’t map properly. I’m going with reWASD to try to get it to treat it like an Xbox controller. Unfortunately I think I need to set profiles for when an application is running, and to do that I need access to the WindowsApp folder or whatever it’s called.

I’ve found it as it’s hidden, but I’m still having issues altering the permissions so I can view the file locations, and despite me being the only user and administrator it’s proving difficult to change those permissions.

Any help appreciated, or if there’s an easier way and I’m making it needlessly complicated do let me know!

In terms of storage, get a small (120gb) ssd for OS and perhaps office programs and whatnot, if you use any editing software you're gonna have to go bigger, or add another one for that if you can. Might be overkill but I'm a bit weird when it comes to that stuff.

1 ssd for OS and basic software
1 for heavier software if applicable in your case (editing/photoshop/movie editing/....)
1 for games.

Personally, I was on a budget (not really but made myself not go beyond a certain number) so I just put in a samsung evo 970 nvme drive (1tb) as my main and only storage drive. Guess when you go big and can keep about 30% unoccupied, I wouldn't worry. Not sure when too much is too much, but when I see my drive getting to like 300gb free of the 1tb I'm already curling my toes, totally unnecessary I'm sure but as I said before, I'm weird.

I have a Switch Pro controller myself, unfortunately, outside of Steam it's a mess to get it to work properly and would advice buying a cheap Logitech controller for PC, they're not the best but they do work without issue.

If you REALLY want to use the Switch Pro Controller outside of Steam.. try adding the game you want to play to Steam as a non-Steam game, that's the easiest fix and can be pretty reliable.

If you don't have that option, most emulators should be able to recognize the controller.

That said, you should exit Steam when using emulators as it messes up with the inputs.

There’s no need for 3rd party programs.

Cheers man. It’s certainly not as weird having various files spread around 3-4 computers and cloud services as I had! Hoping to get it into one physical space so I can actually sort and clean everything up a bit too.

Yeah I am having the same issue with adding GamePass games to Steam, although I’m pretty sure that would work. I can’t navigate to the folder in which they live to find the exe files to launch. Trying to follow a guide to fix that but it’s proving irritating despite me sort of knowing what the issue is, what the guide steps are etc it’s just not playing ball… yet

If you launch the game and go to its process in task manager you should be able to get into the folder of the exe file and copy the entire path or is that not working out either? It'll play ball eventually.

Not really. the gamepass/Windows games folder is locked down pretty hard, local administrator can't actually override most of the permissions requirements because it's locked down through a security block which only the xbox game service can get through. If you ever have to mod the game, or want to modify saves etc in that folder, it's nearly impossible.

Best of luck, because I gave up when I had to get through that.

Makes me curious to try it myself, but I don't use that stuff so I have no reason to, hmm..

I found this guide which I’ll try out later. Might be of use!

It’s not exactly super intuitive, well I wouldn’t have figured it out by trial and error or trial and educated guess but I don’t see why this wouldn’t.

Well, I think I won't be buying any Gigabyte Power Supply Unit anytime soon. That is, unless I want to have BBQ :D

There is one more video and Gigabyte's response was... let's say weird.

Fingers crossed no one here did RMA during this ransomware attack Gigabyte received :D

They reportedly lost information regarding RMA tickets:

This is going to be a weird one.

After 10 years and one divorce finally I manage to get a new gig. I really have to careful with my spending because you know... Lira is going down every single day. I have 2 options:

- Buy a Ryzen 5700G (or 5600G) and try to hold on its iGPU
- Buy an i7 10400F and use my old GTX 750 ti. This option is 250sh euro cheaper. I can add a GPU at Q3 2022. (250 Euro is a lot when you earn only 700 euro per month)

I'm an old guy who mostly plays RTS stuff (AoE2 DE, SC2, TW:WH hell even some 2D games. etc) but at the same time I want to try some new stuff (at lowest possible settings ofc. I didn't even had a chance to play some classic series like Witcher etc.)

I just don't know what to do... 10 years ago we were laughing onboard GPU's due to their abysmal performance. I knew GPU's become hard to buy and their prices are skyrocketed but I had no idea how expensive they have become. Now I'm totally confused and need some help.

I do not think going with no GPU is ever the better option. Even using your old GPU is probably better no matter the setup.

If I were you and budget was tight, I'd consider second-hand GPU if purchase has to be now or buy a new one in 2022 Q3/Q4. Assuming you mean waiting for RTX 4000 series or AMD GPUs which I guess are probably at the same time. Honestly, my personal choice in your position would be to get a new GPU next year, you already have some old one.

Hey All

Looking for advice on up-grading my rig.

Any advice will be greatly received, please be gentle with the 'Tech Talk' I'm really just an end user.

What is your current build?

Intel® Core i5-4670K CPU@3.40GHz
Installed Memory RAM; 16 GB
64-bit
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, (Driver Version 471.68)

[Power Supply

NEOECO NE850G M - 850W 80 PLUS GOLD

What is your monitor's native resolution?

1920 x 1080, 60Hz

Why do you want to upgrade?
I built the system some 4, maybe 5 years ago, (had to replace the original build Video Drive about 3 years ago, it failed)
The rig has only 500 GB SSD hard drive and I want to upgrade this, 1TB+? As I am going to do this I was thinking the rig would benefit with a close look at where other improvements could be made.

What do you want to achieve with the upgrade?
I’m a PC gamer, I think that would explains why the upgrade.

What is your budget?
Basically I want to get a bang for my bucks! When changing the hard drive I am looking to swap-out components that will give a reasonable to great improvement to performance.
Not looking at throwing cast at this but no set budget!

What country will you be buying your parts in?
Thailand

If you have any brand or retailer preferences, please specify.
No preference.

Cheers.... Laters!

Hey guys, looking for your advice regarding new PC build

My previous build has the next specs:

i3-4130
8 GB RAM
GTX 650
PSU 500W 80+
Primary HDD storage 500 GB + secondary HDD storagy 1TB

Upgrading an old build seems unreasonable since I'll have to change everything except for the Case, HDD's and maybe PSU (primary HDD storage seems like is almost done after 8 years of usage, but should I re-use PSU for the new desktop?)

What is your budget?

Around 1300$ plus/minus a bit (ofc spending less is better)

What is your monitor's native resolution?

1920x1080

What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings?

CS:GO, Witcher 3, Metro series, some Blizz games, RDR2, mid settings for competitive games, high for solo games at best

What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming?

Photoshop/graphics/render activities and for my work mostly. Having a relatively powerful processor + GPU + 32GB of RAM + SSD primary drive is a good thing. Motherboard with WiFi adapter will be a plus

Do you intend to overclock?

Nope

Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire?

No

Do you need an operating system?

No

Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget?

Probably yes, 24 inch, at least 75Hz with low output delay. This will be a part of another additional budget, so that's in a few months

If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify.

No specific requirements, prefer Intel processors for use

What country will you be buying your parts in?

Ukraine

If you have any retailer preferences, please specify.

No retailer preferences

P.S. Guys, thanks once again for your advices! Previous build proposed in this topic had a great performance for it's relatively cheap price, hoping for the same this time Will be happy to see different opinions as well

IGPU generally isn't good for gaming, even if the 5700G is toward the top end of it. Tom's Hardware did a pretty good review on its gaming performance numbers and as you can see they're not great, but some games are playable. You're looking at a lot of 30-40 fps performance on low settings @ 1080p, but some things, especially older games, perform better.
