Maybe something like this would help? Link. Perhaps there's an Asus m-atx motherboard that support this as well. If you must have the Asrock then perhaps it would be simplest if you just paid them to upgrade the bios for you before they send it if they give that option.

Assuming the IGPU can handle watching high res videos all you really need are the basics: motherboard, RAM, power supply, case, HDD/SSD. An optical drive might be useful for watching from a DVD/Bluray. I see a video of the IGPU playing Tomb Raider on low settings, so seems like movies shouldn't be a problem for it.

Might be able to run some linux OS off a flash drive and not even need an HDD/SSD. I would think 4GB of RAM to be more than sufficient.

System that simple should be well under 300W for a PSU (probably never crossing 200W).

Great! Thanks! I'll start looking for parts as deals come up. Do you know of resources aimed for home media servers?

thx, yeah, I looked into the stuff-technologies offered by various manufacturers, and yeah ASUS ROG mobos are way out of my budget range :E
The ASRock mb is just the one i found that was the best of budget Z97 mATX boards, no affinity towards the manufacturer whatsoever :D
Its probably just easier to have it done by them ^_^

Hi guys, so there's been a change of plans when it comes to my new PC. I have a friend who's offered to sell me one of these EVGA GeForce Graphics Cards for well under market value so I'm going to be building around that instead. I've started a new build list, but I have very little clue what I should be getting to compliment this. Storage and memory are just carried over from my last build, but for all other parts I'm lost.

Thanks guys

For an HTPC? Not particularly. Plex might interest you, though. Can set it up your main desktop or a NAS and let other devices stream media from it over the network.

What price is he selling to you for? The launch price of titans is extremely high and it's only cost effective to pay a fraction of that for the performance of a last gen titan today.

Those Titans probably launched around 1200 CAD. Today you get 970's for ~$410 CAD - they have less VRAM, probably a bit worse performance but they also have some advantages like improved power efficiency, twice as fast onboard encoder etc. For that reason, even for half of MSRP at titan release (600 CAD) it can be a questionable choice. If it's super cheap then yay, grats on the titan

can you quote/link the rest of the build stuff again? I can't find it ATM

She, and where do you see these for 410 CAD? There were way more where I was looking. If I can get one for 410 here then I won't buy hers cause that's around what I was gonna end up paying.

An original Titan is most likely preferable to a 970, though. Just not to the point where you're getting towards 980ti pricerange

An original Titan is probably preferable to a 970, though. Just not to the point of paying a huge amount of extra money for (as that would push you towards 980ti pricerange which is all around quite a lot better than original titan).

Titan vs 970 - The Titan is bit faster GPU and 6GB of VRAM instead of 3.5GB is a little helpful even on 1080p today. It's well worth using one for $400 - just not $700.

Well I'm only paying about 450 for it so I guess it's still probably worth it then.

Here's the old build btw, though I'm now thinking I can spend a little more on this to match the graphics card if I have to.

Sure~

By now the 6'th gen i3's and cheaper skylake motherboards are available. You could probably use one of those.

A ~550w PSU would be better to have for a Titan though a 430-450w-ish PSU with the right power connectors (that's the main concern, many lower power PSU's do not have them) will do ok because the CPU power consumption etc will be very low and the GPU probably not highly overclocked.

It's better to use 2 memory sticks for dual channel as it doubles bandwidth, the only reason not to do so is when you have limited memory slots on the motherboard, no reasonable alternatives with more memory slots and the number of slots would stop you from adding as much RAM as you want in the future.

Single channel ddr3 1600 is ~10GB/s
Dual channel ddr3 1600 is ~20GB/s
Dual channel fast ddr4 (3200) is ~45GB/s.

Alright so go with 2 sticks of memory and I guess the 550w PSU just to be safe then. But what about the other parts? Should I stick with what I had picked out before.

You could get some parts like this -

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

CPU: Intel Core i3-6100 3.7GHz Dual-Core Processor ($171.85 @ NCIX)
Motherboard: ASRock B150M Pro4S Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard ($99.50 @ Vuugo)
Total: $271.35
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
Generated by PCPartPicker 2015-10-08 17:59 EDT-0400

which would also use ddr4 i think but the pricing doesn't seem so good in canada, maybe because of availability. Haswell is still fine for i3.

you could also try to go for a 6600k setup but that's more expensive

for $271 I might consider a haswell i5 on a b85 board. slower cores, but 4 real cores.

Yeah the pricing is too high. PCpartpicker only had like one CPU from one shop available; there's a ton of sku's and boards from different sites in UK already

Looking through more of these coolers, none of them list as being 1151 compatible but a lot of people listing the Noctuna U-12S and U-14S so I'm assuming they're fine? These are a bit steep for coolers though,

I've also been recommended the 212X from CM ( https://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?id=10&id2=185&bid=2&sid=131605& ) which is almost half the price, thoughts on this one?

+ Show Spoiler [Build from previous page] +

What is your budget?
I'd like to keep it around $1500 but this is flexible (probably up to around 1800)

What is your monitor's native resolution?
1920x1080

What games do you intend to play on this computer? What settings?
Sc2, GW2 + some new games coming out (as high as it'll go)

What do you intend to use the computer for besides gaming?
Not much

Do you intend to overclock?
Yes, eventually

Do you intend to do SLI / Crossfire?
No

Do you need an operating system?
Yes

Do you need a monitor or any other peripherals and is this part of your budget?
A wifi card since I'm not 100% sure I can run ethernet to this thing.

If you have any requirements or brand preferences, please specify.
Not particularly attached to any brand though I am partial to white cases.

What country will you be buying your parts in?
Australia - Brisbane

If you have any retailer preferences, please specify.
Umart - Since I got easy pick up from there and won't have to blow anything on shipping.

I've put a tentative build together but I'm not sure if it's that ideal but would appreciate advice on where I can make some savings or other suggestions. Would prefer to get from Umart as mentioned I can go pick up from there and not have to pay shipping but I am not attached to them. I've emailed them and they said they don't offer any special deals if you order the whole build from them so I don't mind other shops around Brisbane like MSY and the like if they end up being cheaper (though as before I prefer to be able to pickup). In particular would like to know whether or not I actually need a full tower for something like this.

Thanks

AFAIK Intel didnt change the cooler mounting parts from LGA1150 in their new 1151 boards, so anything that works with 1150 will be compatible with 1151

Thanks

It's an alright lower end cooler that was popular in the past for being available for ~$20-25 USD and not limiting OC's on 2500k's much. I was thinking higher end for you because australia
