I am going to build a new computer specifically to play and stream SC2. I play in Windowed Fullscreen mode, with Hybrid Lite Graphic Settings. I want to stream in 720p@60FPS w/ OBS. With the help of a friend and Cyro, here is what I think suit me the best : Intel core i5-4570 - 168€ Palit GTX 750 Ti - 136.39€ GSkill Extreme3 2x4Go - 90€ Samsung 840 Pro 128GB 93€ Asus Z97-A - 115.56€ be quiet Pure Power L8 300W 50€ Asus DVD-RW - 19€ ___________ 672 € I think I didn't forgot anything (but the case) but if you think one of these is not good enough or too good (would be nice to save some €..) or just don't work well together, please give me any advises. Thanks a lot. PS : sorry for approximate english

PS : sorry for approximate english Here are some parts I would swap: http://www.amazon.fr/Intel-BX80646I54690-Processeur-i5-4690-LGA1150/dp/B00K5J2252/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410962749&sr=8-1&keywords=i5 4690 http://www.amazon.fr/ASRock-H81M-HDS-Carte-Micro-Socket/dp/B00EOBXPXK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410962815&sr=8-1&keywords=asrock H81 http://www.amazon.fr/Crucial-MX100-Disque-Flash-Interne/dp/B00KFAGCWK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410962876&sr=8-1&keywords=mx100 http://www.amazon.fr/Crucial-BLS2CP4G3D1609DS1S00CEU-Mémoire-PC3-12800-Ballistix/dp/B006YG94Y2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410963516&sr=8-1&keywords=crucial ballistix sport 8 go €187 for an i5 4690, which is 3.7 Ghz instead of 3.4 GHz. I wouldn't recommend the faster i5 normally, but if you're looking to stream SC2, you might as well try to get as much CPU power as you can get without overclocking. You pay some extra money, but you'll save that with the motherboard. You can save money by getting the ASrock H81M-HDS which is €56 instead of a Z97 board which is useless in a build like yours. Haswell refresh and this motherboard are compatible, source: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/H81M-HDS/?cat=Specifications You can get a Crucial MX100 for €90 at 256 Gb instead of a Samsung PRO which is more expensive and has half the capacity. Finally, that RAM kit is 1600 MHz RAM, 2x4 Gb and rated at 1.5V. It's perfect for a build like yours and it's a €70 instead of €80. For the case, €40 for the Cooler Master N200 is über solid: http://www.amazon.fr/Cooler-Master-N200-Boîtier-PC/dp/B00BTQD40W/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=8-1&keywords=N200 So, €651, if we include the DVD driver. How's that?

you don't neccesarily need CD drive and a gtx750 is probably cheaper and still very effective, but 4690k is mandatory and a CPU cooler for overclocking is needed for good results edit: ^good ninja post, but he said he wanted to overclock, just wasn't sure of specifics i think. Could go either way With those prices it almost seems cheaper to just buy from the UK. 90 euros for a 120GB ssd? We've had them for £50 recently.. Random EU countries seem terrible for hardware prices. US is usually great, UK and germany not so bad (germany usually a bit cheaper but not always) but france, italy etc those prices are pretty horrible

Otherwise, this build is kind of nice, it's also going to be very quiet. Be quiet! PSUs are quiet, GTX 750 Tis are quiet (I'd imagine from my experience with a 750) and a CPU at stock clocks is going to be mostly quiet. Yes, prices in France are ridiculous. You gotta dish out €38 for a CX-430 for example, though it's €90 for a 256 Gb SSD, not 120 Gb. Still expensive though, that's for sure. 20% tax on things as well as a strong € makes things kind of expensive.

However, you're looking at a more expensive motherboard, case, PSU and you're also going to get an aftermarket cooler. That would cost you €200+ more though, as well as you having to take the time to overclock that processor. Overclocking can be worth it, for sure. However, in my opinion if you're looking for a functional system without spending too much money, as well as a simple system, you can do very nicely with the €650 rig right there.

This is what she wants: -bugdet is ~500 euro (cheaper is better) -mainly for office work -would be awesome if it could run things like the Sims, LOTR online etc. I know this kind of information isn't that hard, but I really don't want to mess up :o Edit: desktop pc with windows 7/8

Or are you asking us to pick out a pre-built from Lenovo, HP, Acer and so on? In either case, you would have to tell us where you're going to be ordering from. About the rig itself, would a lot of storage be needed or is speed more important? You can get a 1 TB HDD or you can get a 120 GB SSD. The hard disk drive offers much more storage, however the SSD will give your girlfriend a very responsive system. We're talking about a system that goes from being off to being ready to work in less than 10 seconds. Programs like Windows Media player, internet browsers, Word or Powerpoint will load instantly instead of 1 or 2 seconds. Games will also load faster. A computer with an SSD is very comfortable, so to say, which may be very refreshing. You do lose storage space if you're on a budget though, the ideal combination being an SSD for windows and programs you use often AND an HDD for storing media.

I don't intend to overclock because I'm the tech support person in the house, but she has expressed an interest in streaming games as well as stuff like running a minecraft server from home. (Our connection is crap so I have doubts about that, but just in case...) Personally I've got a downclocked haswell i5 in my laptop (got a really good deal on the system) and it has trouble with playing and hosting a local server in a few modded versions of MC (all of which are moderately processor intensive), so I had doubts about just getting her an i5 and calling it a day. I know she wants to also be able to play games off of steam that may be somewhat demanding, as well. I haven't taken the time to shop around for best pricing at all yet, but I figured it'd be smartest to talk with you guys and get some perspective first. I have access to a Microcenter about 40 minutes away by car (live in Philly), but have never been there before, so dunno what their stock looks like. Typically I buy stuff off of newegg but am open to most reputable NA retailers. ... is the build okay or should I be skimping somewhere?

Otherwise for games generally speaking the i5 is better. The hyperthreading that the i7 has over the i5 doesn't help for games. That said, the hyperthreading is good for encoding videos, aka streaming. I'm not sure if hyperthreading is useful for hosting servers though. I often find it hard to justify getting an i7 over an i5, it's like 50% more expensive. $100 would get you a nice motherboard and an aftermarket cooler to go to 4.5 GHz+ through an overclock.

Same for a bunch of other stuff; if you're worried about performance then OC i5 is a far better choice, but stock one can handle everything. There's a lot of misconceptions about i7 being stronger CPU, when slightly increased cache and HT very often doesn't actually help and when it does, it's usually ~20% performance gains, but only in those certain loads and for like 1.5x higher price. The hyperthreading that the i7 has over the i5 doesn't help for games. -most- games You likely have some power limited dual core with HT in laptop - check what you have, but the i5-4200U runs at 1.6ghz base, 2.3ghz max turbo with a power limit invasive enough to sometimes not allow that. Desktop quad core i5, even at stock, would have 4 cores instead of 2 and run permanently at ~3.7ghz with no such power limit If you're worried about playing games that are very demanding on many CPU cores and not being able to stream at a high resolution and FPS, then just grab an nvidia GPU gtx750/650ti+, they all have NVENC which you can use for livestream encoding instead of the CPU Don't buy a Kingston v300~ http://www.overclock.net/t/1457629/psa-about-the-kingston-v300-ssd-probable-foul-play-by-kingston

This PC will be used for gaming @1080p (Dota 2, Witcher 2, Guild Wars 2, etc) Hopefully this machine can run those at decent framerate. CPU: Intel Core I3-4160 Processor 3.60 GHz, 2-Core LGA1150 ($120 @ Amazon) Motherboard: MSI H81M-P33 LGA 1150 MicroATX Motherboard (roughly $60 @ lelong) Memory: Kingston Technology HyperX 8 GB (2x4 GB Modules) 1600 MHz DDR3 ($80 @ Amazon) Video Card: Gigabyte R9 270X GDDR5-2GB ($190 @ Amazon) PSU: Corsair CX 500 Watt ATX/EPS 80 PLUS ($50 @ Amazon) Storage: WD Blue 1 TB Hard Drive ($57 @ Amazon) Case: Cooler Master HAF 912 - Mid Tower Computer Case ($55 @ Amazon) Disc Drive: Asus 24x DVD-RW Serial-ATA Internal OEM Optical Drive ($21 @ Amazon) OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit ($100 @ Amazon) Total: $735 Question: i3-4160 is flat out better than i3-4130 yes?Are there drawbacks? Because they are the same price so i went with 4160. How much of an upgrade is this over my currect PC?(Athlon II x2 260 & Radeon HD 6700) If it's not much then i might go with an i5 instead. I didn't use Amazon for the motherboard because for some reason, none of the motherboards ship to Malaysia. Let me know if something is bottlenecking/overkill/incompatible, thank you ![]()

CPU, it's hard to say but maybe 2x. It's really strong (3.6ghz Haswell with hyperthreading) but still a dual core. GPU, it depends which 6700 series you have and i don't know how they perform There is this pic from launch time about guild wars 2: ![]() I don't think dota 2 benefits a lot from more CPU cores, but maybe it does. I think Witcher 2 is fine with 2 good cores and more graphically limited, but i have not played either of those games It's a little tempting to get a CPU like this instead - http://www.amazon.com/Intel-Pentium-Processor-G3220-BX80646G3220/dp/B00EF1G9DW/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1411023610&sr=1-2&keywords=pentium - $60 cheaper, but they're clocked ~400-600mhz lower, lack hyperthreading and don't have AVX instructions which sometimes affects you, so they're not as good. They are better as stepping stone CPU's for a later upgrade, because i3 is rather expensive for doing that
