When using this resource, please read the opening post. The Tech Support forum regulars have helped create countless of desktop systems without any compensation. The least you can do is provide all of the information required for them to help you properly. |
What is your current build? Uhhh... tell me if I did this right because I am a little retarded with computers. Processor: AMD Sempron(tm) 145 Processor 2.80 GHz RAM: 2.00 GB (1.75 GB usable) 64-bit operating system
What is your monitor's native resolution? 1920 x 1080
Why do you want to upgrade? What do you want to achieve with the upgrade? Basically I got the cheapest computer I could make off of newegg + a pretty nice monitor I borrowed from a friend. I did this because the only games I play these days are Starcraft Broodwar and low requirement games off of steam. The problem is I can't stream well because my comp sucks so much and also I can't even run FTL or Kotor 1. I just want to have a system that can support streaming really well and can also allow me to play low requirement games or medium/higher requirement games on low settings.
What is your budget? I can go as high as 400$ but I imagine this can be done much more cheaply.
What country will you be buying your parts in? USA
If you have any brand or retailer preferences, please specify. No xD

Comparing the GTX 760 to the R9 270X is it worth it for the $70 upgrade for the 760 GTX?
|
If you care about AAA titles then probably yes.

Hey guys, can anyone tell me how much my old PC is worth? Thinking of putting it up for sale. Specs: E8400 oc'd to 3.9ghz with an after market heat sink, don't remember which HD 5750 ASUS P5Q Pro ATX LGA775 Antec Sonata III Black ATX 4GB ram 500w psu Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200RPM 32MB
$150?
|
Something like that, maybe a bit higher depending on power supply and heatsink.

Eh, I guess it depends who you're selling it too. If you have a friend who knows you treated the computer well you could sell it for a bit more. IMO don't sell the drive with it since the drive has your data on it.

Heatsink was $30, power supply is an earthwatts that came with the case.

I'll just format it. Would that not delete everything?

Hello again tech wizards,
2 years ago I build my PC based on your recommendations and I was super happy with it. Now is time to update it a bit so can you recommend me parts that need upgrading?
This is my current build
For some it does not show that the CPU is overclocked at 4.2GHz and I am using a Cooler Master hyper 412s cooler. The RAM are G-skill 8GB ripjaws. I dont know if this RAM timing are ok or if they do effect performance in any way.
I play all games, SC2, lol, dota2 + all the new games. I dont stream. So I just want to up-to-date PC with best value for money parts.
My budget would be about 200-300 euros. Thanks in advance
Edit: Forgot to post my power supply. Its the CX430 corsair and I am not happy with it because for some reason it makes a coil whine noise when the PC is turned off

Would that not delete everything? You need the format that's slow and takes forever to complete. That one will overwrite everything with zero.
You need to make sure to not use the "quick-format" that's instantly done. You also can't just delete the partitions.
+ Show Spoiler +On a drive that's wiped with quick-format or where the partitions were removed, the data can be restored to pretty much exactly like it was before the format. A good amount of people know how to do this because it can be done through rescue tools, and people know those tools from a time they lost everything by mistake, and everyone makes a mistake like that over the years.
If you want to be super sure, there's "secure erase" software that can overwrite the drive multiple times with changing numbers (not just zero). Software like that should be on the various rescue tool boot discs that exist like "Hiren's Boot CD".

soo.. you want to buy a new graphics card? Not much else to buy.
Which of 6800 series exactly do you have and what are you trying to do that you can't do? (or aim for in the future?)
You should probably push CPU overclock some, 4.2ghz is very low for a 2500k (i get ranted at quite often about how 4.5-4.7ghz is too low of an OC because 2500k's clocked 300mhz higher all the time, which isn't really true but should give you an idea of peoples expectations for those CPU's..)
For GPU, if you bought now, we're still on the same tech from 2.5 years ago. There will likely be a decent new GPU to buy in the fall, but it might be later than that. In terms of CPU upgrades, there's stuff better than 2500k if you buy a new motherboard, but nothing to blow it away so people generally don't upgrade unless they really want that last 10% performance or want to add hyperthreading too (which probably doesn't help you much if at all). We'll have next architecture release (2 onwards from sandy bridge, instead of just 1) in ~mid 2015, with DDR4 RAM too

I have an integrated graphics card, device manager says "AMD 760G" I dont want to build a whole new comp, thats not in my budget, I just want my comp to lag less lol. And I want to stream better and play some more videogames

Well you have problem of everything being terrible
your cpu is terrible and am3 is old+dead, i don't know much about it. 2GB of RAM with windows 7 isn't nearly enough, 4gb is really a minimum (and limiting sometimes) - and then you don't have a GPU, or likely a good power supply etc. It's hard to know where to start
|
My friend seems to insist that if I just get a good graphics card things should work out ok.

You have an ancient low end CPU - some of the cheapest CPU's around today, like the worst you can really buy, are ~3x faster at stock settings (Intel's ~$50 Haswell Pentium's) - 2gb of RAM will limit the stuff you can run so much that it's not even worth bothering if you don't change that.
You could get a gtx750 but it wouldn't be a miracle fix.
Curious as to what power supply model and case you have

I have the sapphire 6850 GPU. I like to play at high/ultra most of the time and when i don't get at least 60fps i start to think about an upgrade. Like now the new assassin's creed, bf4, witcher 3 are somewhere around that. So in the future i think that my GPU will bottleneck even more. But if you think that I should wait some more for new cards to arrive I will.
I don't have much experience in overclocking but I will try to get it to at least 4.5GHz. At this OC(4.2) my temps never get more that 65C when testing with prime95 so this gives me enough room to push it more?
Buying a new motherboard + CPU are probably to much money for not that much in performance for my needs. Even thou new motherboards look much cooler XD
Thank you Cyro for a fast replay and good adivce

There will very likely be like a gtx 860/870 to upgrade to before witcher 3 (late feb 2015), for cpu, you just might be able to get another ~5-10% with current hardware
np
Ya, you have lots of room to improve if they replace 780ti with 880 - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/1077?vs=1072
