Hello,
So i lost my old copy of brood war and bought another one.
Since i live in germany, i got a german copy now, which im not satisfied with. So is there a way for me to change the games language to english? Is it safe to download an english version somewhere and just type in my CD key? Or is there a way to just upgrade the game to an english version? I have already typed in my key, so i guess ill not be able to deinstall the current game files and use it with an english copy?
Also im unable to choose LAN or anything alike in the multiplayer section. It only shows me battle.net. Did they drop LAN support in a new version or something? When I just installed BW, I was able to choose Local Area Network (IPX) and some more stuff, but when Battle.net upgraded my game, it disappeared and i was only able to choose Bnet.
Thanks, KonKaizo

Go to your Blizzard Profile! Insert your CD-Key and the download the english version.

Thanks for the fast answers.
@Grobyc Cool, im going to try this out.
@ngtmre I tried registering the game in Bnet. When i typed in my key though, it said "An Error occured.", so i figured since the game is so old you couldnt register it with the new Bnet now.
Regarding the LAN issue, is LAN even supposed to work with brood war right now? Since I was able to choose it in an older version of it, and it just seems to have dissapeared in the new version. EDIT: So i just reinstalled starcraft, and with version 1.15.2 it gives me more options like Local Area Network (IPX) and LAN (UDP), Modem and some other stuff besides Bnet. When i update via Bnet now, all those options dissapear and im only able to chose Bnet.

@KonKaizo I bought my Starcraft Broodwar in a package (Starcraft Anthology) in 2011 in Germany and it would register flawlessly to my BnetAcc. Did it because I couldn't stand the German audio just like you

All right, i guess i will contact blizzard support as soon as its up.
The LAN issue seems like it never appeared. I guess only blizzard can help me there as well.
|
Yeah it shouldn't not be an option. 99% of us on 1.16.1 have LAN just like the good ol days.
|
The LAN option will appear as soon as you've updated your client I believe. Did you update to 1.16.1?
Oh read over your edit there. That's weird. Are you able to log-on to battle.net with the version your on now?
|
Yes. Battle.net works fine with the newest Version, i played a couple of games.
I contacted blizzard support regarding the issue, ill keep this updated i guess

Hey, KonKaizo, don't mean to bump, I don't want to repeat thread, but I'm having this same issue and I can't seem to fix it. Tell me if the support told you anything that helped you out. As a side note, we've used the same disks and a battle chest key on multiple computers and updated from Bnet and they all worked fine. Including a Windows 7 computer, which is what this computer is running on. Someone please help, this is killing me.

Oh, one more thing, there's this mysterious "U.S. Test" server option in multiplayer.

I'm sorry I cant help you on your problem, but the for the Test Server, Blizz added that recently because apparently, they were switching servers or something. So it's normal to have that

It's cool, thanks for the response. I tried re-installing the network drives, to no avail. Can a .16 version connect with a .16.1? I'll try that and report if anything happens
