Macbook Pro - How to swap the fn and control keys?

Hey TL,

I sometimes play SC2 on my macbook pro at school or if I go anywhere and don't want to take my rig with me. The problem is when I am playing SC2 it is very akward trying to hit control on the macbook keyboard.

I am wondering if there is a way to remap the fn key to act as control so it's easier to assign control groups when playing SC2.

When I play SC2 on my mac I do it on Windows 7 via boot camp.

Something tells me that you probably want to buy an USB keyboard anyway, because laptop keys are too shallow and unsuitable or any serious usage in RTS games.

I don't have a Windows PC on me but I could've sworn in the SC2 client you can change the keymap to whatever you want. Try that.

Hi sm0b,

KeyTweak would be a program for Windows and KeyRemap4Macbook a program for OSX, so you can simply redesign your keyboard.

I tried that and the fn key doesn't register when you are trying to change the hotkeys inside of SC2

I just tried KeyTweak but I can't find a place where where I can change the fn key, it lets me do everything else like the eject button and such but no luck with the fn key >.<

Hey,

oh damn, i am sorry. I just read on the Manual that KeyTweak cannot switch the Fn-Key on Windows for all Keyboards.
But i found some Guides, maybe you can give it a try.

Instead of using the control key to hotkey units why not use the shift key instead? We all know the shift key adds to your hotkeys but I have changed it to actually be the one doing the keybinding. Your pinky finger already rest on the shift key so it's more convenient and it's actually a lot faster in binding believe it or not.

I've done it this way ever since sc2 came out and it has carried over now that I use a filco.

I play on a Mac and I got used to the control button being where it is. But you should buy a USB keyboard. Best idea I think.

The FN key is often special due to hardwired functionality, i.e. part of the circuitry. I used something like DoubleCommand to swap caps/control on my old mb, I remember that tool having something about fn as well. By the way, the game is very playable with ctrl och caps or on cmd, the meta key next to space.

Edit: oh sorry, I did not see the bootcamp notice. I have no idea on windows, but it's probably easier due to the larger assortment of tools and interface hacks.

If you don't mind the 0.5kg extra carry weight, you could get a tenkeyless Leopold with a carrying case. It's a sick good keyboard regardless.
