Does it have to be Samsung? For $200, Samsung doesn't have a lot of options that are actually better than the competition. The OP has a list of monitors you might be interested in within that price range/monitor size.

A decent list of good options are in the OP. Come back after you've taken a look at some of the options or found some alternatives you might be interested in.

The LG IPS7 is perfectly fine but nothing that special. Its certainly not as good as that proteam is making it out to be...of course I wouldn't expect anything else since they're sponsored by LG.

I play mainly league of legends, sc2, and dota2, so I want to try to get a monitor that is optimal for these and maybe some other competitive games along the way. I'm guessing I should be looking for a very low input lag.

I have slightly less than $200 to spend, so the Dell U2312HM is probably out of my list. It seems like the Asus VS229H-P seems like the way to go but I also got suggestions for the VS236H which is simiilar in price, how would they compare at the current price points? I don't really care about features such as speakers or usb.

People have also suggested that I should get the VH239H to use the most of my budget, but it's $40 more than the other two.

Also, its been mentioned that Dell will have sales soon, in how many days should I expect to be seeing these?

Are you sure you have all those model names right?

I know of a VH236H (a very popular cheap 23.6" 1080p TN CFL-backlit display with overall decent response, used in some gaming tournaments and leagues) and a VS239H-P (23.6" version of VS229H-P, so 23.6" 1080p eIPS), but not a VS236H and not a VH239H. Or maybe I'm just out of the loop.

Dell sales aren't a guarantee.

Yeah sorry, you've got them right.

Looks like cheaper options are the VH236H ($144.99 including rebate) and VH232H ($124.99 including rebate) from newegg. Would those be a better options than the VS229H-P and VS239H-P even if I don't need the speakers?

Personally, I'd pick the VS239H-P or VS229H-P over the VH series. You're paying around $30 more but these monitors have very good motion performance when trace-free is set to 40 or 60 (try and see which is better) and they have the added bonus of being eIPS.

All IPS monitors are extremely similar so if you're curious what an IPS monitor looks like, find an Apple iMac for glossy option or a recent Dell Ultrasharp, Asus VS, or LG IPS series monitor for a matte option. Compare with TN monitors nearby and see if you can see a real difference in image quality and whether the $30 difference is worth it.

Hey i am looking to get two monitors tomorrow. One of them 21-22" for computer and possibly hooking up the xbox so I would want it to have headphone jacks maybe? I was looking for just a standard good monitor that has a good deal but i really know nothing about.

The other one is for my girlfriends family and they will use it for computer and watching movies so if there are any deals on monitors around 25-27"

I was hoping to find one at best buy canada or future shop canada. If there is something i can do better online I will do that or if there is another store such as canada computers?

Thank you,
Merry Christmas!

Depends on what you want. PS3 users want to avoid the U2412M if you're not going to have a secondary monitor. I believe Xbox 360 can output black bars for 16:10. 16:10 monitors without scalers are the devil for PS3 since everything will be stretched vertically in a noticeable manner.

That being said, the U2412M is theoretically the better monitor however if that's what you're asking. The U2312HM isn't bad buy any stretch of the imagination but seems to suffer from higher than normal minimum brightness (an issue for some people) and fairly average contrast (most samples sit around 700:1 - 800:1 unlike the U2412M's commonly found 900:1 - 1000:1).

Asus VS229H-P is a good 21-22" option with 3.5mm output. Cheap, good adjustable motion performance, uses an IPS panel, has 3.5mm output for sound.

If you want to try your luck, the 27" Catleap/Crossover/Shimian IPS monitors are good options if you aren't fussy about dead pixels and the like. They'll basically look like iMacs. Purchase from eBay.

16 by 9 for sure. Sorry to say but the industry has left 16:10 which is IMO the better ratio. 16:10 is now for people who like 16 by 9 but like the extra vertical space for documents, which isnt worth the extra hassle and cost most of the time.

Be wary of which models. Most are using A- grade panels that everybody else doesn't want, dead pixels and other problems may be more likely, usually the stand is nothing special, sometimes there's no OSD, sometimes contrast or brightness settings are borked, etc. There have been lots of reported failures out in the wild, frustrations. I don't really follow it all closely, but buyer beware. I don't know which to avoid, so I can't say. The upside is that these are 27" 2560x1440 S-IPS monitors obviously, of the same panel models that Apple / Dell / HP / etc. use, just generally those of lower grade.

If you get one of these, I'd try a retailer with a US presence with reasonable warranty support. e.g. MicroCenter sells some model I think, and MonoPrice recently listed a model (and instantly went out of stock):
http://www.microcenter.com/product/384780/EQ276W_27_IPS_LED_Monitor
http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?p_id=9579

I think Womwomwom knows more, and I know there are posts about it in this thread. Search and find them.

Yeah, i heard they were of lower quality. I'm not really in a market for a new monitor, I'm happy with my asus 23" 1920x1080 one for right now. Was just wondering, cuz that'd be a huge price drop from the usual ones (apple/dell) which usually go for around 900+ dollars.

Hey I'm looking to buy my first monitor. What is the best monitor for StarCraft 2? Least amount of input lag and most fair price. Please recommend. Thank you.

Edit:
Budget: $150-$300

Size: 21-24 inches

I'm interested in what StarCraft 2 Progamers use.

There are some options in the OP. Starcraft progamers and events will typically use whatever their sponsor gives them. I think LG-IM uses that LG monitors that got into trouble for false advertising...whoever sponsored by Benq will probably use those really uninspiring Benq RL series monitors...Dreamhack will use those extremely expensive but basically perfect Eizo Foris monitors. I don't think most progamers really care about the monitors they get anyway.

With a budget like that, the Asus VG23AH might be an option. Its a very good 60hz semi-gloss PLS/IPS monitor that can be pushed to run at 72hz. The only problem is that some people can see some strange lines/cross hatching effect, which is a result of the passive 3D filter. I'm not too sure how obtrusive it is but if you can't see them, its probably the best value gaming monitor on the market.

Womwomwom was saying earlier to make sure to stick to the ones WITHOUT an OSD, the same ones that have only a single dual-link DVI connector & not multiple connectors. Apparently the slimmed down internals mean significantly less input lag. Besides Korea, the UK has the best selection of these, with some of the Hazro 27" monitors having decent input lag according to Prad.de, plus native warranty support, etc.

And while it is a lottery here in the states, there seems to be a fair number of people who win as well as lose.

Yeah, there are plenty of winners, plus plenty of people who get one who have never used more-expensive monitors before. Not to be a total snob, but I think it's reasonable to assume their expectations on average may not be the same as those of people regularly buying the 27+ inch Apple Cinemas, Ultrasharps, etc. When looking at user feedback, calibrate responses accordingly.

Though personally I'd risk it too, if I wanted a large monitor.

They're perfectly fine. You can either buy local, if possible, or from eBay. Like the UK has Hazro and I think Australia has Kogan. If you're buying from eBay, it goes without saying that you should look at the seller's negative feedback to see how shifty they are.

The models with the OSD can have problems with contrast since some adjust their brightness through contrast. The single input models do not have this problem. I believe the more expensive Crossover models don't adjust brightness through contrast but I can't verify this. Anyway, the single input models go for like $300-350 so they're great for the price.

The multi input models typically have pathetic contrast at usable brightness levels and they are normally around $100 more than the single input models (so $400-450). If you compare that to the price of the Dell U2713HM when on special ($560), I don't think the multi input models are worth the price. You save $100-150 but you miss out on the awesome three year warranty as well as the chance to get a perfect sample.

These are the three options I'm looking at right now for a new monitor. Which one would be the best for playing StarCraft2 competitively?

http://www.amazon.com/Asus-VS229H-P-22-Inch-Class-21-5-Monitor/dp/B005S0XYKK

http://www.amazon.com/Dell-UltraSharp-U2312HM-IPS-Monitor/dp/B005LN1JEC

http://www.pcrush.com/product/LCD-Flat-Panel-Displays/805442/BenQ-RL2450HT-24-inch-LED-LCD-Monitor-16-9-2-ms#product-reviews

Any advice helps, thank you.
