BenQ RL2450HT is a pretty generic TN monitor with what seems to be some reverse ghosting issues.

The Asus VS229H-P is solid 21" IPS monitor. Solid enough monitor.

The Dell U2312HM is a solid 23" IPS monitor. Solid monitor with some neat ergonomic features and warranty.

So I want to upgrade my 19 inch monitor to a better one. Looking through in this thread is seems like the Asus VS229H-P is a good fit for me (price, ips, decently low input lag, etc). After doing some more research, I came across the ASUS VS239H-P. It seems the same, except that it is 23 inches rather than 21.5 and of course more costly ($167 after mail in rebate versus $145).

I just want to make sure. Would the ASUS VS239H-P have the same performance and quality as the ASUS VS229H-P? The larger size makes the vs239 more attractive to me.

If it makes any difference, I use Intel Core i3-2120 and Radeon HD 6870. I usually play League of Legends or Global Offensive and love watching tv and movies on my computer.

VS239H-P is perfectly fine. Make sure its the VS239H-P because the VS239H is awful for gaming. Best trace-free setting for just about all Asus monitors would be 40 or 60. Try both and see which you prefer.

I'm guessing the main difference between the H-P version is the overdrive control?

Also, thank you for the work you've done on this guide. Do you recommend any simple resources to calibrate the monitor, or should I just use the "game mode" and be set? I'm afraid I don't really understand color quality to well, so I just left it at default settings for now.

Leave it on standard mode and forget. With Asus monitors, adjust trace-free to 40 or 60. Game mode is generally oversaturate, bright, and looks like shit.

Yeah you basically have it right. You want the H-P because it has overdrive and the H does not.

Hello i just wanna buy 22-23'' monitor.
After reading this topic i wanna decide between two:
Dell U2312HM -here situation is clear i know yours opinion etc (im little woried about 8ms reaction time but maby its not bad)
or ASUS VS239 and here i have problem couse in my country there is no H-P model only this 2:
http://pl.asus.com/Display/LCD_Monitors/VS239H/
and
http://pl.asus.com/Display/LCD_Monitors/VS239HR/
And to make it even more difficult in my shoop i have somethink like this: LED Asus VS239HR LED H+D (90LMF0151T70041C) - dont know what H+D mean

Can u tell mi if any of this 2 is H-P (i need good monitor for gaming).

8ms means absolutely nothing. I'd honestly be more worried if someone stated that they had a 1ms monitor.

The VS239HR is probably far better than the VS239H for gaming purposes because it appears to actually have overdrive. So less ghosting.

What's the price difference between the Dell and Asus? The Dell and Asus, screen-wise, are fundamentally the same. The Dell does come with a lot of hardware extras like the stand and USB ports as well as better warranty.

Unless you really want the height adjustable stand and the warranty, I'd go with the Asus. In terms of image quality, they're basically the same.

Maybe I'm missing something...

But why would you pick the Asus over the Dell when the price difference is that small? It just seems like a no-brainer to me to get the Dell, the stand alone is worth more than the price difference. Also if the Prad review of the VS229H vs the U2312HM is any indication, you get noticeably better factory calibration with the Dell.

Dyslexia is the reason why. Well not really but I have no idea how I read that as $273. Maybe I should get off the smartphone....

You're right the Dell is the better option when the price difference is that small for the stand and USB hub alone. From a calobration point of view, I don't think the default calibration of the asus will be too awful. The sRGB preset of the vs239h isn't particularly amazing but the gamma is around as good/bad as the dell u2312hm's.

I've been using this monitor for about 3 years and wanted to buy the same or a similar monitor for my second place. Unfortunately for some reason it isn't available anymore, but at the same time I can't find one which is as cheap as this one with the same specs (payed about 160€ 3 years ago)

Would be glad if someone could help me here :/

I don't know much about these older monitors (where are you, Wom?). Is it the S-IPS ir S-PVA version? If Xbit's review of the S-IPS version is accurate:

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/monitors/display/20inch-4_11.html

Then I guess it looks decent enough. Gamut is good, calibration looks ok, responsiveness is good ... just contrast sucks. I'm not sure it's really worth $130 when you can get an Asus VS229H-P for $145, it has far better contrast and slightly higher resolution (and it would be new with the full 3yr warranty) but you don't get the good stand.

Can't find something with the same specs? Come on now... asking about specs?

Did you bother reading the OP? Specs can be largely ignored.

Asus VS229HR is 150 Euros on Amazon.de ... if you don't mind the anti-glare coating, it will probably be one of the best options within your budget range. I don't really know if there are other stand-out models for about 160 or less. The new Dell S series looks interesting (the cheaper IPS ones that is, S2240L and S2340L) but I don't know much about them yet.

So apparently monoprice releasing / released new ips panel monitor (2560x1440), any reviews/thoughts on it yet?

Basically the same deal as the yamakazi / shimian / etc panels, yea? I guess since monoprice has a 1 year warranty, but I'd be surprised if dead pixels are any less likely. It's not clear to me what the extra ~$70 is getting you, but I may be missing something.

Well if you get >5 dead pixel, you can get it switched, I'm guessing that's the 70 dollars?

Since its located at the States, its probably easy to return if the panel is defective. I'm picky about my monitors so I can tell you that LG's manufacturing consistency is not fantastic.

Also I believe the Monoprice are multiple input? You might want to wait and see reviews of the monitor because a few of the cheap multiple input 2560x1440 have awful contrast (like 400:1) at usable brightness levels (120 nits).

I wouldn't bother especially if its second hand. If its S-IPS, its decent but you really want to know how many hours it has been on for because CCFL monitors can get really dim. If its S-PVA, its also CCFL so the same thing applies. Both are probably useless for gaming due to huge input lag.

The only real time to go for the old monitors if its the NEC LCD2490wuxi and even then you want to know how long its been used for. Newer monitors are, generally speaking, better in every way and pretty much the same price as old high end monitors.

Hello, you all seem very knowledgable and I only sign onto TL when requesting tech help so:

I have read the last 5 pages +the OP and want to buy a monitor of:

- around 24 inch or so (range between 21-27 seems fine)
- Price under $400 US (I hope this isn't unreasonable, according to cnet atleast lol)
- IPS (by your description, and looking at the iMacs this seems like a good feature to have, unless you guys can correct me on this one)
- HDMI input (a must... do you feel that something else will become the new standard later? haha i dont want to buy a monitor then realise nothing will connect to it in 2-3 years, but i feel confident that HDMI will last)
- Able to show ps3 content without any distortion of ratio
- I have a window right next to desk so anti-glare is good (current monitor is that of a macbook pro, and it is like a mirror, so unless these new monitors have something special, i think matte is what i should need)

Other features i really have no idea whats good, but i want it for gaming (that is main priority; so i want low input lag, perhaps not over 1 frame) but if it is generally good quality of picture all around that is fine too (so for movie and pictures, although i don't do graphic design anymore so its not a big issue if it is like one shade off or whatever).

Ok with that all said and reading hours of reviews it seems ASUS PA248Q 24" 1920 x 1200 seems good, can anyone talk me into something better? Im not really interested in needing 16:10, 16 is totally fine, I just cant find any good monitor of this size that is 16, wonder why that is?

Sorry if this is quite long and thanks for writing the OP, who knows how much time i spent comparing the companies spec's pages only to release its basically junk.
