If its using the same panel as the NEC LCD2090UXi, then the U2312HM will be significantly worse no doubt about it. I think they were some of the last monitors to use the A-TW polarizer, which was the best thing since sliced bread. Not just that, the screen treatment on those monitors is less aggressive than the ones encountered on most matte IPS monitors.

So basically: All new IPS panels are inferior to the best old ones? I knew I should have bought 3 20" NEC back then, damn it.

The S23A750D will definitely have better motion performance, especially if you can push well above 60 FPS. Seeing is believing in this case, I can't describe it. For some people, playing games on 120hz is just so much better than 60hz that they can't go back. Other people aren't so convinced even after spending time with such a monitor.

Will have to test that out for myself. I hope Samsung releases a 120 hz monitor with VESA mount ...

My brother has a Dell 3008WFP, which according to tftcentral has an average Input Lag of 35 ms - which I instantly notice, and it's not even close. That's why I always thought my L2000C to be well below 30-40 ms.

The only three things that IPS have improved over the old ones would be: lifespan (CCFLs dim quick compared to LED), contrast (there have been small improvements in black depth/brightness), and cost. No other real improvements so its not surprising some people are praying for OLED.

To be fair though, the newest AH-IPS and PLS monitors have very good image quality and I don't think you'd find them especially disappointing. I can't imagine anyone being significantly disappointed with something like the Dell U2713HM or the Eizo FS2333.

The only monitor I know that uses the A-TW is the Eizo CG246, which is close to being the perfect monitor judging by the Prad review. Which is reflected in its 2k Euro pricetag. These old IPS monitors were similar in quality and in price if I remember correctly, I don't remember the old NECs being particularly affordable.

Will have to test that out for myself. I hope Samsung releases a 120 hz monitor with VESA mount

The Asus VG236H is an option if VESA mounting is required.

Its just an educated guess, I really can't really find anything on the LG L2000C sorry. Its definitely plausible that the NECs had higher input lag due to internal electronics designed for high end photography.

I think the Korean monitors are the best in terms of value for money. I've got the CrossOver 27Q LED and it's the best monitor I've owned so far. Much better than my Dell U2711 which I gave to my cousin.

I just can't stand Dell's anti-glare coating. Also the new Dell U2713 isn't much better. Yes, the AG coating is lighter but still suffers from the same problems as my old Dell U2711.

This CrossOver is very ergonomic and I love it. Brightness is perfect, colors are extremely accurate and I can play BF3 without having to cringe about the AG coating.

For comparison's sake, my friend has the Yamakasi 27" and I find the CrossOver much better for aesthetics.

I'm thinking I'll just wait another 6 years. Maybe then there will be 120 Hz IPS or actual OLED monitors.

I want to pick up a decent monitor for a dual-screen setup this weekend with all the sales.

Any advice on black friday sales? The cheapest I've found was $203 for Dell Ultrasharp U2312HM

I cant stand the AntiGlare Coating on the U2312HM. It gives me headaches and hurts my eyes. Any suggestions for alternatives?

There's semi-glossy Asus VG23AH (no swivel) with lighter coating and glossy Dell S2340L (no height, swivel, tilt, or VESA mounts).

Thanks for your suggestions. But the VG23AH is pretty expensive. Isn't there a version without 3D?

Which of these monitors would you guys recommend for a gaming monitor?
http://www.amazon.com/Dell-S2330MX-Ultra-Slim-VGA-Monitor/dp/B005ZPEQZA/ref=zg_bs_1292115011_7
139.99

139.99 + 20 dollar mail in rebate (so 119.99)

What are the advantages/disadvantages between them
My budget is about 140-150 if there is another monitor you would recommend besides these 2. Currently I use an AMD HD radeon 6850 as graphics card through HDMI cable
Thanks for any help you guys can give me

No unfortunately. Monitors without the LG's matte IPS coating consist of fairly pricey PLS monitors (Asus VG23AH, Eizo FS2333/EV2335) or are glossy and aimed squarely at consumers (Dell S series).

I mean I think a TN would please my need, too. But I'm in the dark on which to pick. BenQ GL/RL 2450 seem pretty or an equivalent from Samsung.

Benq's low end monitors are not very good at all. Samsung is a better bet if you want to spend as little as possible. The problem is that good TN monitors like those in Samsung's 550 series are pretty expensive too.

If you don't mind refurb hardware, I remember seeing amazon.de having some Eizo EV2335 for 220 euros. Perfectly good for gaming, lacks the typical IPS antiglare coating.

The second one you listed is $139.99 after mail-in rebate not $119.99. In any case, I would probably go for this monitor:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824236175 This one is $119.99 after mail in rebate and it's essentially the same except it's .6" smaller, which I prefer anyway since if the screen is too big I tend to get a headache. As a result I definitely think that the $20 savings you get will be worth it.

As far as the differences between the two you listed go, there isn't really all that much, it comes down to how much you value one brand over the other, and the small size difference. I personally find Asus products to be a lot more reliable than Dell's. For example, my brother's Alienware laptop (made by Dell) has already had its monitor replaced once while still within warranty, so that could mean their construction isn't that good. I haven't had any problems with my Asus laptop since I bought it, or my Asus tablet.

For anyone interested: Here is a comparison between the Asus VG278HE (144 Hz, 27") and the Samsung S23A750D (120 Hz, 23").

tl;dr: 2nd to the FW900 (24" CRT monitor) the author declares the 144 Hz Asus the best monitor for gaming.

Speaking of 144hz, according to PC Monitors, BenQ XL2411T can run at 144hz.

Interesting. By the way: Is it possible that Samsung, BenQ and others are going to start a "hz war" and we are going to see 200 hz+ (whatever is the cap) monitors in the forseeable future?

I'm fairly sure they can't do 144hz natively. You need to mess around with PowerStrip and your monitor timings to achieve that.

I don't think there is a point, the cost to produce one is going to be extremely expensive. Not many people would care about 200hz because...well their desktops can't achieve above 120hz near indefinitely. Except in maybe CS:GO since that's a Source game.

True. 120 FPS in SC 2 is hard enough ...

hey,

thinking about purchasing this U2412m
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dell-Ultrasharp-U2412M-Widescreen-Monitor/dp/B005LNDPPS

it uses DVI and does not use HDMI

i use the Radeon hd4760 iirc and my last monitor was HDMI

will i be able to plug the new DVI monitor into my graphics card or do i need to buy a dvi-hdmi adapter to make it work?

hope that was clear.
thanks
