SOLVED - Thanks SO much!
Hi everyone. I think my brother has stolen my processor chip and replaced it with a dual core, BUT
When I check my processors under device manager, it says
Processors
-Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz
-Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40 GHz
So it lists TWO processors, but it still shows them as "Quad" and the rest of the information is the same.
Since a processor chip is one thing, does that mean it's not possible he switched the processing chips since it should say some other processing chip's name and "Dual CPU" instead?
I also downloaded CPUz to check to make sure how many processors my computer has.
Also, when I go to msconfig and boot and advanced, I can only see 2 cores to enable/disable/select, it doesn't show 4.
Please help T_T I always thought my recent SC2 lag problems were due to Patch 1.4, but I think it was a coincidence my bro took my processor chip on the same day.
Thanks so much in advance! I really want to stream again (let alone play sc2 on low without lagging!!!)

go into task manager and check the cores. Probably just a hardware thing.

I checked "set affinity" only 2 shows up (CPU 0 and CPU 1). Also, when I go to Performance Tab, it only shows 2 graphs for "CPU Usage History" instead of 4 like it did back then. I do not think i have updated my BIOS anytime recently.
Also my device manager says my processor drives are up to date =/
But if someone can tell me 99.99% or for sure that it's not possible my brother stole it unless he hacked my PC for it to say "Quad CPU", I won't be nearly as pissed as if he has. He's caused many troubles in the past before, and he is older (full adult)

The next thing would be check the bios, or just open up your case and take the heatsink off.

You have to enable the other cores in the bios. I don't know the exact settings but its in there.

If I check the BIOS, how will I find where to enable/activate my missing 2 cores, if possible? Is there a good website with a good guide on this or anything? Am afraid to open up the BIOS only to not figure it out, then have to boot up the PC, look online, then go back, and possibly back again lol...

If your processor has never been changed before, you'll be able to tell if it's been tampered with by how the heatsink is attached. If it's really old thermal putty that's difficult to separate it's probably original, but if it has new thermal paste that comes off easily or no thermal material at all it has probably been replaced recently.

Thank you, I was not aware you had to do such things to get to the processor. I thought it would be easy like switching a GFX card. Is it possible he just switched the entire mobo or whatever it is? I think my PC has been generating more heat recently, too, but that might just be dust.
Well I guess I should just check, i'm just afraid to mess things up in my PC lol. Sorry for troubles <3

maybe your brother disabled some cores.

I'm a real noob at this stuff, please don't laugh at me  or laugh if u must, hah. I thought cores were like, some spinny thing and u just put as many in ur pc as u want... kekek
It's just suspicious cus i have 1 of my speakers on my PC, and one day i came back from school at the usual time to see my PC moved a bit, and my speaker on the table, so it looked like my bro did something to the PC.

Is it even possible to just straight up swap the CPU's? You'd need a switch with the mobo too no?

SOLVED
I went into the BIOS and I was confused so I took a few pictures, didn't find anything that looked like the BIOS examples I searched up, but I found one option DISABLED it was called something like "Core Multi-Processing" so I changed that to enabled, and now when I go to msconfig and processors, it allow me to set it to use 4 now!
THANK this means so much to me! Starcraft is my life, hah! No more lag <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

I've done it, swapped Athlon II 250 x2 with Phenom II XXX (<-- can't quite remember which since it was a long time ago) x4
Just need to make sure that it's the correct socket and that your mobo supports the CPU.
