@Malazin

Behold this guide is specifically meant for low speed (<1 Mbit/s), plus it has some minor flaws which has been pointed out in the comments above. I would at least encourage you to look at these guides (too):

General XSplit configuration/settings Q&A (the biggest on TL):
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=195391

Good alternate 3rd party capture driver for better performance (less lag input):
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=272764

I strongly encourage people not to blindly trust the result of Speedtest.net. It is only a rough estimate on the bandwidth to whatever server you choose, but it will never be the actual streaming server at Twitch.tv - and it will very unlikely reflect whatever ingestion Twitch.tv may or may not have (I have a hunch that ~80-90% are using the same server - because they have never changed their default settings). Therefore, use the far more precise measurement feature (the "Test Bandwidth" button) that Twitch.tv just have built into their XSplit plugin.

There is an option now to speed test your bandwidth with the beta 6 of xsplit. Here is a link to try it for yourself it is easy to find in the options menu http://www.xsplit.com/broadcaster/help/index.html?bandwidth_tester_guide.htm . Speed test all the closest servers to you to get a good idea of what upload speed you should pick.

I changed the upload quality to upload bandwidth for your response. As far as fps setting goes you do not need 30 fps to have a smooth stream I use 20 fps for sc2 & lol and other games and the animation of the units is lag free and not noticeable. If you play fps or racing games you can go closer to 24 fps but if you have 1mbit upload you can't afford to waste bandwidth on 30 fps.

I agree, you can perceive ~16fps as smooth motion, but there is a reason movies use 24 plus the streaming standard is ~30, it looks a lot smoother and better.

With the IPL3 stream at 60fps, a lot of people were freaking out, claiming the game was on a speed higher than faster etc, it is beyond noticeable and makes watching a lot more enjoyable if the video is higher framerate

Yeah you can perceive 16 fps is smooth motion...if you never saw anything above that. I have a 720p 60fps stream and you can CLEARLY tell a difference from ANY other fps setting. It looks like you're watching someone play from your computer instead of watching a stream. Check it out sometime...and follow.

www.twitch.tv/brovermind

Although 60fps is nice to look at its a waste of bandwidth. 2 personal notes about your stream brovermind are
- Fraps is saying your getting 40-60 fps so half the time your games not running 60fps probably due to cpu lag from trying to capture 60 fps.
- your aspect ratio is off which I'd imagine having a full screen stream would actually be more enjoyable experience to watch than the extra fps that's not always noticeable.

Apart from that it looks nice at 720p good luck with your channel.

I'd like to recommend that you update the OP with the information about the bandwidth test, as well as optionally incorporating some of the remarks by people responding to your post. Ie. as I already mentioned here, it doesn't make much sense to speedtest to San Francicso if you're streaming to Amsterdam.

Bandwidth test procedure (please note the details):
http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewpost.php?post_id=12518978

Btw. can you please confirm/deny if you are a premium user of XSplit? The reason I ask, is that I think the bandwidth test is only available to premium users, which if true, should be included in a note .

Hello, I am a premium user so it may be likely if you can't access beta 6 than you won't be able to bandwidth test via xsplit. The update about the bandwidth is on the main post, its just below the san Fransisco paragraph. Also the San fransisico paragraph also stats that San Fransisco may not be the closest server to you. I will update that you need to be subscribed to use the bandwidth test, thank you for this information.

Thanks.
And just to be specific - either Personal or Premium license is required to access some of features in XSplit, such as GameSource and the Bandwidth test.

I am using a Quad Core Xeon 2.27 GHz with a GT 240 1g DDR3 vid card, win 7 64bit, when I try to stream to twichtv I get a low FPS and quality on the channel but my Computer is running great, high FPS and my Processor is only at 50% and memory is only using about 3g out of 4g. I use xfire to broadcast. so my question is if my processor and memory are not being maxed out but still getting a low grade stream could it be my GPU or would it be "xfire"? or possible my CPU still isn't beefy enough?

Dell Precision t3500.
Speedtest appears to be okay.

A waste of bandwidth is bandwidth unused...remember that ....got everything good to go now with aspect ratio...streaming at 800+ now, woot woot. Depending on the map, fps will drop, but a majority of the time its smooth at 60fps, i always mess with the settings though but so far so good.
Cool story bro.

Oh yeah, and you should know fraps is not reliable when streaming as an accurate count of fps.
Cool story bro.

Hmm sounds like gpu but it could be a internet problem possibly too. whats the stream and internet settings. Maybe give obs broadcaster a go it is free and might work well for you.
