Release 0.9.10
- stream selector bug fixed
- code refactored

Link to Extension-Page

FAQ:
+ Show Spoiler +

[ Q: ] Why does this exist?
[ A: ] So that Linux- and Mac-Users can also enjoy GomTV

[ Q: ] Do I need a GomTV-Account, do I get Premium for free?
[ A: ] This Extension is not supposed to steal, share, restream, distribute or redistribute property of Gretech Corp.
It only works with a valid account.
And no, you only get the HQ Stream if you are logged in with your payed for account.

This is the experimental version of my normal GomTV for VLC extension which is mentioned in this thread.

The big change to the normal version is, that you can now start the stream right in the chrome browser.

Because it uses an experimental API of Chrome you have to enable it before installing this extension. Just type "chrome://flags" into the address bar, and enable the "Experimental Extension APIs". After that you have to restart the browser.

When you are using the normal version already, you should disable the old one while using the new one, and vice versa.

I'll try to bring out a fix as soon as I'm home from work. That's a new thing that they deliver 2 streams.

Omg, thank you -- they changed something the other day where my old manual method didn't work anymore, I've been watching it on the choppy Mac version of Gom Player. Watching Code S now and it looks so much better. Thank you so much!

released version 0.9.9 now.
You have to reinstall it because the update address in the previous version was wrong.

Also I added a stream chooser that shows up if there is more than one stream available.

Oh, I was waiting until the complete CGI file had downloaded, but you have to open it right away . Works like a charm now! Cool!

Question: Chrome still shows that it is downloading (in the taskbar) all the time. Is there something to do against that? Somewhat distracting. This is nitpicking though!

Depends ... If you are still watching the live stream, no ... because chrome is indeed downloading.
If you have stopped watching, you can just stop(cancel is the term in chrome I believe) the download.

@Crasulacean
Sorry for that, the only time I can test the extension is on weekends due to my work schedule, but I'll try to fix it this evening(central european time).

It's not a nice way to have you test the extension for me, but that's the best I can do till the weekend, and even then I'd have to be lucky to get 2 streams.

Hmm, I'm not getting it to work today. I'm stuck at the message that it is updated, and clicking continue doesn't give any response. Ah well, back to work then.

On this version and the older version I've always had the error about "VLC is unable to open the MRL" any time I try to open the network stream. I've followed the steps exactly many times and still get the same issue, I originally guessed it was because the plugin wasn't maintained anymore and gom changed something but posts here seem to indicate it works, does anyone have any idea what's causing my problem? I have the same issue on two separate computers.

First, when you are using the experimental version, you have to disable the old one. If you had problems with the normal version I would recommend using the experimental version, because there is one step for you to do.

So you get this error after ofter opening the view.cgi file? (In the experimental version you start the stream download in the Chrome- / Chromium-Browser itself, of which the filename is "view.cgi")

My guess is, that you are trying to use the extension as it was intended when I first released it. Since than, GomTV has implemented a little hurdle, namely the user-agent has to be "KPeerClient". After this change you had to use a program that could spoof this user-agent(Firefox (with addon), Safari, wget, etc.). In the experimental version of my Chrome Extension, I'm using an experimental api of chrome to spoof the user-agent directly in Chrome, so you don't need to take this second step.

As soon as this experimental api becomes available in the normal stable api of Chrome, the experimental version will become the main version again.

I'll try to put more time into this extension in the future, as things are settling down in my work life. Sorry for the lack of information about this topic on my part.

I hope the YouTube video I made does a good enough job, for the time being, as to how to operate the chrome extension in connection with VLC.

PS: As always, sorry for my bad english skills.

Thanks very much for the detailed reply, I'll give it another shot next time I'm watching GSL. I'd love to be able to get it work on VLC, I think I only tried using view.cgi once without much luck, the other times I was still trying the same instructions as for the non experimental version (copying the link into VLC). I'll let you know how it works out.

There is no need to have GOMPlayer installed. Just Chrome and VLC.

also broken with Chrome 16.0.912.41 (Official Build 110024) beta on Linux x64

it seems likely to me that the Gom engineers are actively blocking this workaround.

well it doesnt work for me, this is the final url i get

http://MISSING IP AND PORT/view.cgi?hid=1&cid=25302&nid=.... and so on, so the missing part is the ip and port where the server from gom is..
So does anyone know what ip and port are gom servers streaming from ?
