Best bitrate for streaming?

I was wondering what bitrate I should stream using XSplit. 1000 is too low for me when big battles occur or there is a lot of stuff going on, 2000 is fine for everything but I'm not sure if my internet is good enough for it(I've experienced stream lag with about 10 viewers on stream before. not sure if it's my bitrate, internet, or my bitrate mixed with the viewers). Based on my speed test, what would be the best bitrate for me to stream at?

Your internet should be capable of handling 2000, keep in mind that the viewer count is entirely unrelated as once your stream data is sent to the streaming site (like twitch.tv), they take over all responsibility of distributing it to the viewers with their servers. If you're lagging but only in big battles it may be a lack of hardware and not bandwidth, or your computer may be unable to handle encoding that much while battles are happening. Can you post your computer detailed specs here?

with that ping, I would guess you're on "boosted" cable, meaning your bandwidth is boosted at the begining of each transfer, which means web pages load faster, and speedtests show a higher bitrate.

Well actually, I don't lag at all in big battles, what I mean is the stream itself lags, as in viewers get a freeze but the audio keeps going when a battle occurs sometimes. As for specs, it's this computer but the video card was replaced with a Radeon HD 5770. Hardware shouldn't be the issue.

If you're streaming at a high bitrate, it's completely possible that the viewers' connections can't handle your stream. If that's the case, you'll either need to reduce quality or tell your viewers to upgrade their connection or suck it up.

If you're streaming at 720p put it at 2000 or so. Your computer and bandwidth should be capable of it.

Are use using twitch.tv?
In that case, which location do you use (in XSplit stream settings)? Set it to "Main Origin Cluster"
