Why get browns again if you think they feel terrible?

It was that specific keyboard that felt terrible. There were some reviews on Newegg that stated that there were no tacticle bump, or at least it was there but it was very, very light. I don't have the same problem as on my QFP. Plus I want to try out the Ducky Shine II anyways. Just trying to figure out what LED I should pick, but I'm pretty indecisive right now on that.

You don't make any sense. Cherry mx browns will "feel" the same on any board. Probably what you are "feeling" is the keycap hitting the plate. But the keycap hitting the plate isn't even related to how the switch should feel.

If you were looking for something with a tactile bump that you could actually feel, you should have went with blues.

I can guarantee you if you put the QFP and QFR (both browns) side by side and tested them out, which I did, the QFP has a superior tactile bump by far even though its manufactured by iOne. You'd think it'd be the opposite given the QFR is made by Costar. I even switched out key caps and still no improvement. I wasn't necessarily saying that they didn't have the same feel, because they do. However, the tactile bump on the QFR is hardly present, making them not feel like browns.

Browns have always felt like crap. I'm not surprised, they're so middling, it's absurd.

I know T.T. I don't like browns. I really wish there was a switch that was like a cherry mx blue without the click. I've been checking out clears, but they are really just like stiffer browns. Their force diagrams are very similar. The blue's force diagram is very different from the browns/clears. Does anyone know a switch that is quiet but has a force diagram similar to the blues?

There is, but it's not easy to get. Modded clears are the way to go, and I have them on my older FC200r. They feel absolutely amazing, but you need soldering skills, patience, and a bit of cash to get them together. They are cherry MX clear stems with the lighter Cherry MX Blue/red/brown springs. The heavy springs on the clears sort of muffles the big tactile bump on the stock clears, but with the lighter springs, they have a huge tactile bump and an identical activation force to blues.

That's weird because the switches still come from cherry corp. Maybe the feeling of the switch is affected by how it's mounted onto the plate.

Completely wrong, the reds have an entirely different force diagram in every way. It's a linear switch that's significant lighter than blues (due to the lack of resistance from a tactile bump)

yup this, your best solution would be to mod your keyboard with o-rings. maybe even double o-rings

wtf would o-rings do to transform the MX Brown force diagram to be more like the MX Blue force diagram?

O-rings does not affect the force diagram. O-rings only shorten the travel distance to bottoming out.

Force looks the same except, minus the tactile bump.

So it's either reds or blacks. 40cN or 60cN. There are greens and clears as well, but are hard to find.

I have the ducky shine 2 with MX browns. It comes with extra red colored key caps "WASD". I put them in and it feels SO BAD, to me, it makes it feel like the switch is heavier or something. So i switched them back out to the original key caps that come with it. I guess in the end it could be a combination of key caps and the keyboard that would make the switch feel different.

When I ordered my Ducky Shine 2, i originally went for the MX blacks since all the reading led me to believe I would like the blacks. It came with a MX blue keychain and I couldn't get over how much lighter the switch was lol. The only thing I knew was that I hated the "click" sound because no matter how light you type its going to be a loud noise when you pass the actuation point. I then ordered the reds and browns (i thought I would like the reds) but when I tried out the browns I fell in love with them. No matter what, people will swear by what MX switch they like and assume its the best. In the end ALL THE READING in the world wont help you really know what switch you will end up choosing. So my take is that you try all the switches if its possible and ignore anyone on this thread that tells you "USE THIS SWITCH BECAUSE THAT SWITCH IS SO BAD" etc.

To explain, there are two parts to a Cherry MX switch, the stem and the spring. They both play a big role in how they feel. Reds, blues, and browns all have the same springs in them, so the only change between the three are the stems. Without the tactile bump and 2 piece clicking setup, blues would feel exactly like reds. In fact, the only difference between blacks and reds are spring strength; Give blacks the springs of reds and they feel identical.

O-rings wouldn't stop the switch click, just the bottoming out sound. It definitely has an effect, but if you don't like the click sound, the O-rings aren't really a solution.

Actually, I absolutely love the clicky sound of blues. However, this is going to be a keyboard for use in an office (i.e. cubicle farm) environment, and I don't want to be known as that one guy with the loud keyboard. O-rings help with bottoming out, so I am going to get those regardless of what keyboard I get, but even with those, the clickiness of the blues might be too much . That's why I am trying to find a keyboard that feels like blues but doesn't have the click.

Their force diagrams are very similar. The blue's force diagram is very different from the browns/clears. Does anyone know a switch that is quiet but has a force diagram similar to the blues?

reds

Completely wrong, the reds have an entirely different force diagram in every way. It's a linear switch that's significant lighter than blues (due to the lack of resistance from a tactile bump)

yup this, your best solution would be to mod your keyboard with o-rings. maybe even double o-rings

O-rings does not affect the force diagram. O-rings only shorten the travel distance to bottoming out.

yes its a noise dampener.. the poster likes his blue switchs but dislikes the clicky noise, he obviously wont find another switch similar to blues so his only option is to mod his board with o-rings . unless he wants to try a topre out

edit: rofl unless i missread something, hes looking for blues and not browns right? afaik he just dislikes the clicky noise from his blues

Yeah, nothing stock does that, sadly. I would love if cherry would make essentially an OEM ergo clear switch. They have the parts to do it.
