If not, getting a new mobo + gpu will cost more then just 1 good gpu (plus you can sell your 5850 on ebay or what, those are worth like 150 when new i think) if you wanna max out like any game, i'd say at least a 6950 or gtx570 | ||

I take it you have the professional version, which does. Do keep your PSU in mind and that it will generate a lot of extra heat. Overall I agree that CF is not a very good upgrade path, but if you build your system CF ready and had that in mind when building it you should go for it. | ||

If you want to do multi-GPU, make sure you check scaling performance for your card on all the games you expect to play with it, and don't be planning to buy any games at release and play them maxed. | ||
