Hi,

So back in my day you would right click a folder, hit share and voila. My other computer can see the other folder. But now it seems so fucking complex that i don't even understand how it works.

Basicly i have a W7 computer. Shared the folder. Open my W10, i see the folder. It asks for credentials (ok why not) and then if i double click the folder it says i don't have the access... After i typed the admin credentials of the other computer... Does not makes sense. Everyone as full access so... i don't know.

Tried to do it the other way around but it asks for credentials... And i only have a microsoft account on W10 and the credentials don't work (i believe it's the local one but i don't even have an account)...

How do i do this ? because right now the fastest way to share folders is... Usb stick

It Needs an email -.-
I try to copy Microsoft Office 2007 from my Laptop to my PC.
I like Microsoft Edge but I don't like it often changes first letter of a word into a capital letter. (like Needs from first sentence).

Why do the streams stutter slightly when I try to watch two 1080p twitch stream at once. Even one in 1080 and one in 720 is fine. I doubt it's not a bandwidth issue since I get dl speeds up to 25 MB/s. Is it just my processor being too slow? (But it's a stream so why does it take CPU power? Decoding?)

Streams take quite a bit of CPU, because the data being sent is optimized for minimum use of bandwidth. This means that it takes processing power to bring it from a watchable thing (every pixel defined) to that minimum bandwidth format at the streamers end (which is why you need a much more powerful PC to stream something compared to just playing it), and it once again takes processing power to calculate what every pixel looks like from that format on your end.

However, i think it could also be the case that the thing actually getting you into problems might be your RAM. Video and buffering thereof takes a lot of ram.

I see. I guess my follow-up is to ask if the windows resource monitor is accurate at all. Because I have 8 GB RAM but it only shows 3.5 GB used even when watching the two 1080p streams. It also shows CPU usage at only 20% or less!

It doesn't lie to you. You might want to look at something more detailed with regards to CPU, because if 20% of your CPU is used, it could mean that one core is at 100%. You can rightclick the graph in the task manager to have it display "logical processors, which means that you get one graph for each half-core.

Maybe viewing streams is bad at multithreading (I have no idea about this)?

I used to have similar problems and mostly just attributed it to browser-based viewing being terrible. I ultimately switched to Streamlink to resolve those issues.

I got a new ssd and reinstalled windows yesterday and for some reasons now i get the vertical bar that indicates where you would type everywhere i click, even if its not a textfield. For example when i adjust volume in youtube.

How do i turn that off/fix it?

When you share from W7 you can see the users/groups its shared to. Like Administrator, YourUsername, etc. Click ADD and add 'Guest' with Read Access. https://duckduckgo.com/?q=windows 7 share folder&ia=images&iax=images&iai=http://www.home-network-help.com/images/security-setting-for-shared-file-folder.jpg

I am fucking annoyed by this shit, too. We have two computers sitting side by side in a network, and in my experience the most consistent way of sharing files is putting them on a USB stick. How it works via network seems to change constantly, and just because i have set it up to work once doesn't mean it works again a few months later. The latest thing i noticed is that apparently windows turned on a setting to demand that authorisation, and yes, no authorisation actually works. Even if i say on the folder that everyone can read and write, that setting ignores that. And i know for a fact that i never touched that setting before, and file sharing between the two computers worked in the past. Sadly, i don't quite remember how to find that setting.

I usually consider myself pretty IT-savy (Not a professional, but i can usually handle stuff) But sharing files between two computers via network is just ridiculous.

I understand your and others' their frustrations. Especially, since in the old days this was much simpler indeed.
I'll try to break it down for you and hope you are able to figure it out by understanding this principle.

Simply said, back in the day the "everyone"-permission share on a share would give the access you needed, as Windows defaulted to this aswell on the NTFS level.

It is vital to understand that Windows shares work on 2 seperate levels and you'll need to have access on both these levels with an account to be able to access your share.

There is the NTFS-permission set and there is the Share-permission set.
To get a good grasp on your access rights for certain users you can go here:
"Right click folder > Security > Advanced > Effective permissions"

If done correctly, you can view the effective access that certain user accounts have and also see on which level your access is limited by.
'Access limited by: File Permissions' = The right click > security tab.
'Access limited by: Share permissions' = Your created share.

The security tab you are in, are the NTFS-permissions on these folders/documents.
When creating a share and set this to "Everyone", it won't give access to the NTFS-set. You'll need to add your other computers user's to the Security tab as well.
Please note that I highly advice not to set the "Everyone" or "Guest" permissions on such folders, but to set your specific users. You can do this to test the permissions, but please just don't do it.

I think when you have successfully used shares in the past, understanding that there are 2 seperate places to set permissions is, I think the most important part for tech-savvy people like you.

edit; one more note; Windows machines also need to have passwords to be able to do stuff like sharing and Remote Desktop. This has also changed over the years as this was not necessary before.
Also when using remote desktop for remote access, atleast change the port to something other than 3389 and keep your machine up to date.

Would anyone have any recommendations on how to download stream VODs from Afreeca?

I usually use VLC to rip the odd thing from YouTube but that method doesn’t appear to work with Afreeca as per my experimention thus far.

Cursory Googling has the usual suspects of YouTube downloader extensions etc, which I’ve never really trusted or installed for that reason, although perhaps I’m being overly paranoid.

I don’t tend to need to rip stuff much anyway, but specially need this to try and make some SC related content that doesn’t exist anywhere outside of Afreeca.

Any help appreciated.

Try this one: https://github.com/ytdl-org/youtube-dl/ , which is open source with alot of contributors / contributions.
Doesn't necessarily make it 'safe' ofcourse and your paranoia is commendable (not overly paranoid at all with these types of things).

I do not know if it works for afreeca, but it's worth a shot.

This was recommended to me before by a TLer, it certainly looks like if I can overcome my technical incompetence that it should do the trick.

Fingers crossed I can find a way anyway, want to make some headway on this project before life kicks back into busy gear.

Cheers for the help.
