Can I safely use one cable from my PSU (this one) to connect sound card (AIM SC808) and case front panel (Zalman Z3 Plus) which will support two fans (silent wings 3 hi-speed) running at reduced speed (not sure, I think it cuts to 7v)

Yes, fans and a soundcard will pull barely any load.

Thanks, I have one more question. Since the cable isnt just a 3 way splitter but rather one with two ports midway and one at the end. Do all the 4 pin molexes get same amount of power or is it reduced along the way?

They draw what they draw, they're not "powered" in the sense that there's a bunch of excess power flowing through them. The thing plugged in gets the amount of power it "requests," regardless of where it is on the chain. You do need to be careful (generally speaking) about not overdrawing the cables, though. Typically your failure point for a cable on excess draw is going to be the connectors, not the wires. IIRC a SATA connector is rated for 1.5A, so ~24W at 120V. I'm not sure if the rating changes based on the voltage.

That said, the devices that are ordinarily powered by a SATA connector only use a couple of watts. You're not going to run into issues powering little things like fans off it.

Where people get themselves in trouble is trying to run 6 or 8 pin adapters for GPUs off SATA connectors, which grossly exceeds the power rating (8-pin being up to 150W, i.e. 6x higher). Basically the amount of power going through ends up generating more heat than is safe for the cable and things don't end well. But again, this is far from your situation; you'll be fine.

I recently bought new RAM, wanting to upgrade from 8 to 16GB, however only 8 is showing up in the BIOS despite definitely having 2 sticks in, previously my 2x4 added up to 8 just fine. I have an ASUS Z87-A motherboard with 600 Watt, I also tried just slotting in 24GB (just slot in both my 2x8 and 2x4) but that went wrong, also recognized 8 GB and then got a blue screen shortly after (coupled with startup problems, comp powering up then down).

the 2x4 are ballistix-tactical-ddr3-8gb
the 2x8 are Corsair Vengeance - DDR3

Edit: oke so its kinda fixed, I now have 16 GB of RAM

I was using the "nonblack" RAM slots with my 2x4". When I load my 8GBs into these the computer doesn't even want to start. I then loaded it into the black ones and it only recognized 1 until I swapped the 2 RAM sticks around into different "black" ones.

guess ill upgrade my motherboard or something by the time I need more then 16GB?

Make sure they are in slots 1 and 3 and check the contacts for any debris. Try them individually too in case you got a bad stick. Mixing the 4GB and 8GB modules isn't a good idea due to various issues with voltage / timing / dual channel / etc which is why you likely got a blue screen etc.

is slots 1 and 3 the "black" ones? cause I always had my 4 GB 2x in the non-black ones.

For dual channel operation you usually popular in that order, 1+3 then 2+4. It doesn't matter if you use 1+3 or 2+4 if you have only two sticks. Using 1+2 or 3+4 would result in lower memory bandwidth, but this won't be too noticeable for most applications.

Motherboard manuals are very good for this kind of thing.

Page 1-8: http://dlcdnet.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1150/Z87-A/E7828_Z87-A.pdf

Shows you that the black slots are A1 and B1 and the yellow slots are A2 and B2. It actually says to use the yellow slots first. A2 (yellow closest to CPU) for a single stick, A2 + B2 (both yellows) for 2 sticks, and all of them for 4.

It doesn't usually make an appreciable difference which you use, but there's inevitably exceptions to that. It's (usually) easy enough to just swap them around and do a quick benchmark and see if there's any real difference.

You could always try restoring the BIOS to defaults or clearing the CMOS to rule out any errant settings being left over. You're not going to need more than 16GB unless you have pretty specific use-cases, so if it's working I wouldn't worry too much more about it.

There's often a preferred order, my last few motherboard manuals have called out specifically to use 2+4 for optimal memory compatibility. That kind of stuff will be covered in the quick install guide that everyone should probably skim over anyway.

I wouldn't expect the specific slots to be an issue for most people (only really extreme overclockers or odd memory configs) as long as it's in dual channel. The performance loss for missing dual channel is often in the 5-10%+ range for games nowadays so not immediately obvious to everybody but well worth fixing.

I don't know if this is a simple question, but i am considering swapping to, or possible having a Dual OS setup with linux in addition to Windows.

The question now is

a) Generally what is stuff which i need to keep in mind in this transition?
b) Any recommendation regarding a good Linux distro for someone with absolutely no experience with Linux?
c) How much storage space do i need for this? I don't want to immediately get rid of my Windows install, so i guess i would need additional storage space for a Linux OS and all the programs i want to run there? Sadly, my SSD is mostly full currently.

It's relatively straight forward. Ubuntu the distro that jumps to mind. It's free and comes with a GUI component and also handles dual booting out of the box. How much space you keep for Windows is mostly up to how much you plan to use that drive. You want to leave enough for a reasonable page file (typically the same size as your total RAM) and room for whatever else you might put on it, plus headroom for the SSD in general.

One thing I'm not sure of is if the linux distro can go on a separate drive or not. I think it can, I'm just not sure.

so my memory problem hasn't been fixed, although I don't really regret buying 16 RAM because at some point I will have to transfer to it, it seem as though my computer registers that I don't have enough RAM and uses too much or something. I continiously get errors playing WoW, SWBattlefront and Divinity 2 (some games I get more then others). I don't know why this is the case, I checked the resource monitor and the task manager and nothingg seems to pull 13-14 GB but it keeps showing as it is, WoW only takes about 4 and Chrome takes a few (yes I know its inefficient) but its nothing that 16GB shouldn't be able to handle. I am not sure if it matters but the amount of hard faults seems to be quite high and I also run Windows 7.

not sure if helps but it looks like this

What kind of errors are you talking about?

Things to possibly check if you are certain this is about your RAM:

Is the RAM seated soundly in its slots?
Nothing clogging the contacts?
What does Memtest86 say about your RAM?
What are the Error messages which you get, and what does google say about these?

RAM errors and crashes often mean one of the RAM sticks isn't working correctly. This can happen with new sticks, too.

Edit: That resource managers looks like something weird is going on with chrome, with lots of instances gobbling up lots of memory. You are not watching 15 videos in different windows at once?

The error is; Your computer is low on memory please save files and close X, X is the process that is currently taking the most memory (e.g WoW/whatever game I am playing.
The RAM should be in the correct slots, I also had this problem before so I figured i'd upgrade the RAM to 16 (since I figured I needed to do it anyway in the end might as well do it now).

Don't know what memtest is, ill google it.

I only have 1 instance of Chrome open, thought this was normal behaviour either way, I mostly have tabs open, sometimes 1 stream at most 2.

in terms of "clogging" I kind of cleaned it when I installed new RAM shouldn't be a problem.

Basically, whenever you think that your RAM sticks might be a problem, run Memtest86. It tells you whether the problem is something related to your RAM, or something else.

And to me it seems that something weird is going on with your chrome. Maybe try using another browser for a while and see if the problem persists. Your browser shouldn't be clogging up however much RAM you have available. A gig or two maybe, but you seem to have dozens of copies of chrome.exe running, each hogging a few hundred mb of ram. A few copies are okay, but there is definitively something weird going on there. You really shouldn't need 10+GB of RAM for normal browsing. (I have only 8 GB in my PC, and i have never run into the problems you describe, even with multiple tabs with multiple videos.)
