TL isn't since some streams (notably Afreeca) don't support HTTPS yet.

Liquipedia will be soon, we're implementing some ad service changes first though to avoid changing too many things at once.

Having issues with high framerate video playback, anyone got experience?

+ Show Spoiler +
VLC seems to decode okay now but the output isn't quite as smooth as i'd expect and there's a noticable stutter at a consistent interval of a few seconds. It's worse as framerates increase.

i just noticed that changing the system timer resolution changes the output

here is frame output recorded by fraps at 1ms timer resolution:

vs 0.5ms:

Those clusters of frames are at 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0ms with a frame dropped every couple of seconds when it's supposed to be one frame every 4.17ms

edit: Potplayer works better than vlc, displaying 6 frames at 4ms frametimes and then every 7'th frame taking 5ms. No framedrop so it's significantly smoother, not quite perfect but getting there. 200fps probably displays perfectly (5ms on every frame), i'l be testing that soon and trying some more media players since this issue seems player related

so recently (like 1-2 weeks), my computer will not boot unless i start unplugging stuff from the usb ports, seems to be random which one i have to unplug

it would just sit on the motherboard splash screen and that's it, but once i unplug the right usb and reboot again, it'll boot and ill just replug everything back in and it works

anyone got any suggestions?

actually i think the issue began after i got a new wifi usb adapter, but i have since stopped using it and went back to my old one, but the issue seems to have stayed with my system.

also my wifi adapters will stop working once in a while. my wifi icon just goes no internet access and i cant troubleshoot it or disconnect/reconnect as it will try to do it, but eventually it becomes unresponsive (the disconnecting/reconnecting action) and i have to reboot the system to get wifi back

question for any hackers out there.
my mum had an issue with internet banking and im curious as to what the exact issue is.
shes discovered that on 2 instances transfers were made to some random account without her knowledge.
the unusual part here however is that it wasnt some guy logging in to her account with stolen details making transactions for himself. she would input a figure, name, bsb and account number to make a transaction on the system and once the transaction is completed the bsb and account number are different but the name and figure is the same. basically the system acknowledges the transaction but disregards her key inputs for the bsb and account number and uses other details.
this is an online banking system so not sure where the problem would lie. is the banks system compromised? is the browser compromised? the fks going on here

Sounds like a man in the middle. She probably logged into the wrong website. Something like www.mybank.hahahahackedyou.com (but less obvious; can be a common typo, such as www.myvank.com). This site looks exactly like www.mybank.com, so unless you pay attention to the ssl certificate or very close attention to the URL, you think you're on your own bank site. This site then simply passes on all information from you to your actual bank website, and reverse. Now it depends on your bank's extra security measures how brazen it can get in the type of transfers it executes instead of the ones you actually request.

E: the same can also be done with DNS hijacking, but that's a pretty big attack, and would probably have hit the news.

I wouldn't call an impersonation site a MITM attack. It's probably the most common route for this kind of fraud, though.

MITM would be actually intercepting traffic to and from a given destination and doing *something* with it, be it just storing the information or changing details around, before relaying it on. The main thing here is that both sides of the exchange believe everything is secure and normal. MITM basically has to be in place at authentication time so that when the two parties exchange security information it's already been compromised and all data can be altered without it being realized.

In any event, I agree that it's probably something along these lines.

i dont think its an issue of using an incorrect website. she uses a bookmark to get to the main site (stgeorge.com.au) and from there she has to navigate the site to find the appropriate menus. i dont think you could get the website wrong throughout all that

Check whether her bookmark is actually to the correct site. If it is, then you are probably correct.

Also, if she is certain that she didn't make those transfers, you should definitively go to the bank and the cops with this.

yeah the bank already knows and theyll follow up the fraudulent transactions. well see if they get the culprit because his transaction is so easily traced it doesnt seem likely that he wouldnt have made some safety nets.
im just really curious as to how it actually happened. there is no doubt that the site she used is the legitimate bank site. how does someone (or something) change the details of a transfer between my mum pressing transfer and the bank receiving that data? lol

if the URL is 100% definitely correct it could be a DNS attack. By hijacking stgeorge.com.au and sending it to an alternative IP address rather than the bank's server, the same attack (craton calls it an impostor, but it's basically the same idea as a mitm attack: neither side knows they're being compromised but there is a man/impostor website in the middle that can read all the data and change things at will). However, this kind of attack usually affects far more people so unless this is the first evidence of it, it should already have been in the news and hte bank should know about it.

There are other ways of hacking someone's bank transfers, but impostor websites are by far the most common. An alternative is some browser malware written specifically to adapt the data transfer for that specific bank (seeing as the exact protocol and API used will be different for each bank), but it depends on the user installing the malware being a client of that bank, so is quite impractical.

MITM / DNS attacks only work if either go to a fake URL or use http:// AND the bank isn't preloaded with HSTS.

In this case the bank is pretty incompetent as if you try to go to https://stgeorge.com.au it fails as there is no HTTPS service at all. This makes it super easy to hijack over open wifi or similar. The only safe link would be https://www.stgeorge.com.au so make sure that is what is bookmarked.

Normally it's automatically handled, but not always. It's a subdomain, but one so common that most of the time a registrar/hosting provider will set up the redirect automatically, but even if they don't it's pretty trivial to set up a 301 redirection as the website manager.

To go into this in a bit more depth, www.example.com is technically no different than asdf.example.com, it's "just" a common prefix that most sites either use as their primary hostname (eg www.teamliquid.net) or will redirect to their preferred version (eg www.masterleague.net). However there's nothing stopping them being completely separate pages, or simply failing to work with or without www, it's all up to the site operator.

If you don't specify https://, then HTTP is implied, which means an insecure connection vulnerable to eavesdropping or manipulation. So for going to important sites, always begin your URL with https:// to be extra safe (and don't click through any security warnings!).

Most banks etc use something called HSTS preloading, which is basically a list to which the sites have requested to be added which says "don't ever connect here without HTTPS". All modern browsers use this list, but it's up to the sites to request to be added to it. This also requires a proper configuration on both the root domain (example.com) and the hostname (www.example.com). You can check if a site is in the list at https://hstspreload.org

embedded twitch streams are more fluently than on twitch itself? streams are "freezing" for seconds when I try to turn off/on fullscreen at twitch site. embedded streams (on tl) are fluently.

Twitch's site itself has lots of extra javascript to handle all the page rendering, chat, etc and as we all know, JS is slow and shit. With the embedded stream all you get is what's necessary to run the stream so it's not surprising if it runs smoother.

Windows RT was an ARM copy of windows 8 but it was a huge mess and got discontinued a while ago. AFAIK the modern windows stuff is all regular x86 windows but you can confirm by looking at the CPU

thats very interesting. I'm looking for a tablet mainly to read pdf files. It would be better to have windows 10 than android if it can run a lightweight pdf reader program along other proper utility software than half-finished half-working android stuff.

I've had a weird phenomenon pop up. I got a new monitor (BenQ 1440p), and I plugged it into my thinkpad laptop via the mini-displayport and everything worked perfectly. Took my laptop home, came back, and the monitor is blank and shows a message "No Signal !". My laptop still detects that there is another monitor, and can go to a dual desktop setup where the second desktop is just black. I updated the graphics drivers, no effect. If I connect my other laptop which only has hdmi out, the monitor works perfectly. The first laptop though only has mini-displayport.

Is it the mini-displayport jack that's malfunctioning, the cable, or a software issue? Much thanks!
