Is it safe to use a single 4pin molex to pci-e connector to connect a videocard?
A friend of mine has only a single pci-e connector and 1 free 4pin molex connector but he wants to run a hd6950.

So is it safe or a big no?

I tried this earlier with a 4850.

Not recommended, crashed a ton and became quite unstable as well. But maybe it's just that case, who knows?

Oh btw but that one uses only 1 6pin and 6950 uses double connectors, so with it it'd be an even worse idea.

Ok thx,

I have a follow up question.
What if he would use
- 1 normal pci-e connector
- get a sata -> 4pin molex adapter
- use the free 4pin molex + the (sata)4pin molex -> pci-e adapter

Couldn't find a sata->pci-e adapter, so im guessing this is a bad idea, or am I wrong and would this be safe/stable?

What? Why not just get a 2 molex to 1 PCIe adapter? If your power supply doesn't have at least two molex connectors for the PCIe than your power supply is shit or you have too many case fans.

Soo, now my 6870's fan is making a noise like a leaf being stuck in your bicycle wheel for a few seconds on a cold boot. I've googled a bit and it probably has something to do with the bearings? Is it going to detach itself and destroy the motherboard or inside of the card or do I have nothing to worry about?

Together with my PSU's coil whine I could take the whole PC to the shop tomorrow to see what they have to say about it. First time building it myself and half the parts make weird noises :p

I am having a problem with the new site.
chrome thinks:
"Additional plug-in is required to display some elements on this page"
with the usual "intall plug-in..." and "Problems installing?" options coming up.

When i press "Install plug-in..." nothing happens. The pop up bar goes away but whenever i navigate to a new page it comes right back. I mean nothing happens at all.

When i press "Problems Installing?" it takes me here and recomends installing firefox-windows media player :S

I also already have that installed so when I ran it i just repaired instead of reinstalling.

Nothing is screwing up everything looks fine. but the damn plug-in bar comes up everytime.

Hey guys, I just constructed my first computer, and I have an Intel 2500k. However, I'm getting idle temperatures of around 40 degrees, with a stock heat sink and sufficient amounts of thermal paste. Aside from purchasing a new heat sink, are there any ways that I can reduce temperatures of CPU?

Graviton, provided you have good airflow in your case and a good case fan, there isn't much you could do other than a new CPU cooler. 40c isn't bad for idle (my Phenom II runs at about 35 with stock cooler). Unless your temperature in game is over 60-65, I wouldn't worry too much.
The truth does not require your approval.

Nvidia only provides the GPU and a reference design. ASUS and other manufacturers are responsible for the PCB (if they don't intend to use the reference) and heatsink (if they don't intend to use the reference). Oh, they also set the clock speeds.

Hey guys I have a quick question about streaming: I want to start streaming but my computer isn't quite strong enough to stream at any sort of decent quality. I'm not really gonna be able to fully upgrade my computer for a few months but was thinking about maybe upgrading my CPU or video card until then, so what would be the best thing for me to upgrade to maybe help me stream on this computer?

Thanks!

Streaming is processor dependent so if you want to stream, you'll want to upgrade to a quad core.

A lot of people always suggest to get the cheapest ram (whether 4 or 8 gb) when wanting to play SC2 or other games and that the speeds and latency benefits are neglible. So I was wondering then what ARE the benefits for the higher clock freqs and lower latencies? Are the gains in the other areas so small that it's not worth considering the extra few dollars it may cost?

Rendering, file processing and compression, real work stuff.

Is there a real benefit to it? A little but its insignificant in the long run. Benchmarks only show a small section of the task in question, especially if they are synthetic. For instance, no one is going to do some lengthy retouching procedure every time they use Photoshop.

I don't know if this is the right place for my question...
I'm looking for a good chair as my one is crap. Are there specific chair for gaming? Cheap?
Or should I just go to my IKEA store?

You really only have two sensible options:
- Go to Ikea and buy some random office chair. These chairs will die quite quickly but they are cheap.
- Go to an office liquidator/auction site and purchase a second hand Aeron or Mirra. Don't worry that its second hand, if it is authentic* then it will last literally forever. Its still fairly expensive but they are some of the most comfortable chairs around.

It isn't some computer part that will be obsolete within a few months so I think its a good idea to invest in a good chair that will last a good while instead of constantly spending small amounts on mediocre Ikea chairs. There are a few other brands out there like Steelcase and Humanscale but Herman Miller is probably the most common.

*It is important that it is authentic. They look similar but the build quality and comfort is miles apart. If you sit in a fake one, you'll know.
