It sounds Comcastic. I would check - is your cable modem Docsis 3.0 compatible? Did they accidentally downgrade it?

What are some programs I can run to determine what is causing my game(s) to crash? I have HWMonitor, CPU-Z and GPU-Z, MSI Afterburner on in the background but I don't know how to use it to determine what's causing game crashes (black screen for two seconds then resume, or occasionally crash). For example, I'll see my GPU load drop to 0% but I think that's because the game crashed, not the other way around.

Either the ISP has greatly oversold the network, which is pretty common, or you might have someone / something else on your own network running something bandwidth-intensive that starts at 8pm. The most common issue is other occupants streaming video or torrenting.
See if you can monitor your network usage on your router (and look for unwanted connected devices).
I thought of that too but there has been a lot of days where people have not left the house and have been using the internet the entire day.
Anyway, the lag has been constant throughout the whole day now.

Nope it's Optimum. ><"
Thanks for your inputs guys. I asked a technician to come again tomorrow. HOPEFULLY they find something because this is driving me nuts.

Is anyone in your house running Chinese software like PPStream of Xunlei? Those software are really good at eating up all the bandwidth/congesting the network.

Embedded tweets on tl.net are not showing for me. Any way I can fix that?

Widgets aren't a "thing" that can be blocked. It's just a generic term for plugins (reusable functionality). What they're made out of can span the gamut of available technologies.
Besides just clearing a stale cache, javascript, popup blockers, and HOSTS files are almost always the culprit of "something doesn't work for me, but works for others."
As a fun note, some/many of the ad/popup blockers actually make modifications to your browser's javascript. For example, the Chrome extension "Better Pop Up Blocker" actually removes the scrollTo method of window (which is used to move the user's position on the browser, e.g. scroll to the top of page). When the page's js tries to call window.scrollTo(), an error is thrown about it being undefined.
Malicious or shady sites will often try to avoid the "normal" method of doing something (e.g. a popup) to try and circumvent blockers, which in turn makes the blockers try to be smarter or have broader definitions of what to block.
All this to explain how these types of addons can have broader effects than one might expect, since there often isn't a simple definition of or way to block certain things.

Hey guys. I just got a new HP laptop and it came with 2 partitions already made, both around 8 GB. One of them I know to be with manuals and documentation, which I have already saved somewhere else, but the other one I cannot open in windows. I am assuming that that is a recovery partition of sorts. My question is, since my laptop came with FreeDOS which I have no intention of ever using, and I have already installed Windows 8.1 from a USB stick, is it safe to delete that recovery partition? Is there anything important on it? Normally it wouldn't bother me, but I want to run linux mint in dual boot and 2 additional partitions for data, so 4 in total and with the 2 already there it's a bit too much, at 6.

Do you already have Linux Mint downloaded and put on USB stick to boot from? You should be able to run a whole Linux Mint without installation from it. It probably has everything you need to look around.
Here's how things look like on that tiny "Recovery" partitions of my Windows drive when looking at it from my Linux installation:

So it's accessible without problem in Linux. It's tiny for me because it only has some repair stuff but your gigantic one is perhaps still just a Recovery partition, except with a whole Windows installation disc in there.
You should also be able to take a look into that weird partition from the Linux disc you have. You can also use that GParted tool to resize partitions and move them around.
I'd probably make a backup of that HP partition.

Yes, it is on my USB already and I was contemplating what to do before installing it. I will do as you say and save what is on it while in linux Thanks a lot!

Is there anyway I can get SC2 to show in-game on Steam?

So I've been subscribed to GSL for the intire season 2 2014. I've watched a fair bit live, but around half of it has been the VODs on twitch. Today was the finals, and I didn't catch it, so I want to watch it now, but somehow twitch has forgotten my subscibtion.
When I try the show from today, or any previous show it says:
Subscribe to GSL! GSL Year Ticket It's currently only $54.99usd.
But as I said I've already paid for this season.
I've written to purchasesupport@justin.tv and they asked me to tell the my username and stuff like that. They answered right away, the first time I wrote them, but now it's been like 6 hours, and I've not heard anything and the VODs are still not working.
Is there a quick fix to this problem?

I've written to twitch support mail twice. I've tweeted at them. I've tweeted at Gom exp and writing to them via a form on their website. I cannot do anything SC2 related because of this, in fear of spoilers. It's been a while since I've been so frustrated! Argh!!!

Is it possible to lock the cursor to one monitor in a dual monitor set up? That way I can do whatever without fearing my cursor leaving the first monitor. Ideally, I'd have to hit a hotkey or something to allow the cursor to go the second screen.
Display fusion is pretty good but since I'm only using the basic version (cba to pay $30) I don't get all its features. I'm not even sure if DF can even lock the cursor with the pro version?
|
Locking mouse to the current monitor is an option in DisplayFusion. It's also 50% off right now fyi.
|
There's some freeware around that can do it for the primary monitor (called PrimaryMonitor).
