Yeah. After doing it a couple of times you start liking it actually. Gotta do it faster this time! :D There's a nice website out there to use, www.ninite.com It downloads and installs programs for you (from the official websites.) You should use this, specifically if your standard download/install folders are where they should be. Really easy, and really fast. I personally always enjoy reinstalling as long as it's not done every week, because I always end up with a slightly different design of my interface on Windows, or wallpaper, or color scheme, or w/e! :D
You really should consider it, it's really easy.

I use a mac so it's very easy as well, all you need is the Apple ID you bought the OS with. I am in the process of switching to a windows desktop though, so I'll have some adjusting to do. I might use that website in the future too, thanks!

No problem. Always enjoy converting people to the master race! Even though you kind of are already. Sort of! But yeah. Re installing is fun on any OS I imagine. I just like starting cleanly and neatly, be able to organize everything from the get go and tell myself over and over again and then saying ''fuck it'' 2 weeks later. It's amazing!

should I bother with windows 8? Friends are using it and I can't figure out where everything is, plus it feels dirty like those random apps that comes with an android phone that you can't remove without rooting.

If you still use the start menu than just get Start8 or whatever the preferred solution is nowadays to bring back the start menu.

I feel stupid for asking, but I distinctly recall the option to filter a thread for a particular user's posts. How do I do that?

Filter is a TL+ feature.

I could have sworn I used to be able to do it, was it recently shifted to TL+ only?

Always been a TL+ feature afaik.

Hmm, so I've bought a chromecast a couple weeks back, and it's been great for Netflix and such. Yesterday I wanted to watch the Dreamhack playoffs and finals downstairs, on my TV, through the chromecast. You can do this in two ways: Connect the chrome tab with the chromecast, then put it at full screen. Or connect an application on your phone (that streams twitch.tv streams) with the chromecast. Neither of these things did anything better than the other.
It should be noted I have an old, HD-ready, 720p screen, and both my PC's screen and this screen are natively 16 .
When I stream it however, a small border of the game gets cut out. Just far enough that I cannot read the supply of the first player, a part of the production tab, the time, and the map. Kind of annoying. I think this happens with out of application things, considering it also happens when i ''cast'' a web page. WHenever I use Netflix however, or YouTube, there's no issue. I tried setting the aspect ration. There are a couple, among 16 , 16:10, ''correct'', 4:3, etc. Even 4:3 just makes the screen 4:3, while STILL leaving a portion of the screen out. What could be the underlying issue here? 0o
Thanks in advance.

Anyone have any idea how big the difference is between the HD7970M and a GTX 485M? I'm helping a friend out with a laptop upgrade. I don't think the 7970 is worth it considering I've read that it puts out even more heat than the previous generations.

I've seen a few TV's do this, they often cut off a ton of stuff but it's not as noticable as looking at sc2 and having the supplies and minimap cut in half
The fix for me was related to this, i think:

not sure why it's a thing or why it would be related, but pretty sure there was a 1:1 pixel mapping option

7970m is better i think, not sure of difference
performance/watt shouldn't be worse than Fermi (485m)

@Ropid, Incognoto and yok:
Haha yeah, the problem with reinstalling Windows is that my built-in CD-ROM doesn't work (somehow) and I haven't bought an external yet because lazy. And it doesn't have a built-in Factory Reset thing either like my laptop does.

You can reinstall windows from a USB drive.

This is true. That is not something I've considered. I have a fresh, unused The Big Bang Theory USB too.
Thanks for the protip.

So guys, I have a problem.
Yesterday I've accidentaly made my laptop fall out of the table (like 50cm). It shut down automatically and when I've tried restarting it it won't let me. There was a Windows logo and it got stuck at loading for like 15-20 minutes and nothing happened.
Then it told me to try to automatically let windows to search for problem and repair them and it said that Windows cannot repair disc problems.
Then I've tried to launch my cpu once again and it finally worked after waiting of like 15-20minutes, saw my wallpaper, all icons, programs but eveything is loading 50x slower than usual. Chrome won't open, LeagueOfLegends is opening after some 3-4 min delay and it loses connection later on... Seems like everything is fine but eveything is working much slower, most of the programs/games are not loading or getting shut down after a delay. Wondering if my HDD got broken or what? What can I do?
I'm writing from IE, becasue it seems to work best out of all other programs <- lol.

Use the programs Defraggler (the "health" tab) or CrystalDiskInfo and look for what the drive reports about errors.
If you see errors being counted, you need to buy a new drive. If you want to try to make a copy of the data from your current drive, you should not use the notebook anymore until you made the copy.
Alternatively, it's perhaps theoretically possible that the drive repairs itself by ignoring the broken areas in the future. To force it to check the whole surface, you would open a command prompt with "run as administrator", then use "chkdsk /R" command. It will scan on next restart of Windows and it will take a seriously long time if the drive really is broken. You should be prepared to not be able to use the notebook at all for a whole day (you might want to let it run through the night).

If you let your laptop fall and it's suddenly not working well, then it's almost certainly an HDD problem. HDDs have physically moving parts which are much more vulnerable to shock damage (especially if they're in use) than something like a CPU.
Do what ropid said but it quite honestly sounds like you're in the need of a new HDD. Laptop HDDs can be bought on amazon or something. After that it's about flipping over the laptop, taking out the battery, undoing some screws, finding the HDD and taking it out, then putting in the new one. You'll have to reinstall Windows (which can be done from a USB stick) and you'll lose all the data on the old HDD, obviously. Might not be a bad idea to back up that data now while the damaged HDD is still alive.
