Can I use my HDMI slot or any of the other slots I see available on my 7790? Will it work the same as if using the DVI slot?

HDMI and DVI-D are both the same, you won't be able to use VGA in either of them. Since you have a B85 board, you can use it for your second monitor.

then i realized that HDD failure causes you to lose all your data and it made it seem like it happens often. so then, by chance, I learned about you can partition a HDD to act like multiple storage systems. So my question is, is this worth doing? how often does a HDD fail?

Could I try that with computer simply shut off too? The cables on the monitor are hard to get back on >.>. If the monitor turns bright for a bit, then goes off (the light is still on though) and I have to press it twice (once to manually soft shut it down and another to turn it back on for picture), anyone know if this issue is only a monitor thing or could it also be caused by video card or something? Just want to make sure. It was odd when the first two times it happened, I just went through a loading screen and it worked normally (after happening for about 30 mins straight, and 5 mins respectively). Now the third time, it happens even without any game on. I assume it's the monitor now though the above two incidents make me curious. Edit - Also I see repair hits for my monitor on ebay for relatively cheap. I guess I'll see if the monitor is repairable or not. From random google searches, seems like bad caps could be the problem. Are there any major stores that can check the monitors do these replacements for you (like fry's or best buy) or do I have to look around in my area? Edit 2 - It was happening as I was typing. So I decided to shut off the monitor for about 7 minutes. Then turned it back on. Seems to be staying on for now (at least much longer than before where it would happen every 30-60 seconds). So far, it has lasted 3 minutes (will update some more later). Edit 3 - Okay it still hasn't happened yet. It seems if I turn off my monitor and keep it off for about 5-7 minutes, then turn it back on, it temporarily fixes the problem (the problem of monitor going bright for 1 second, then turning off immediately with the on button still lit, and this happens every 30-45 seconds). Anyone know what this points to (bad caps, monitor power supply going bad, etc)?

Has anyone else gotten this error and know how to solve it? Google and Blizzard seem to have no clue (I can post screenshots if necessary).

A single SSD will boot OS significantly faster than 8 hdd's in raid0, AFAIK Yeah, apparently RAID 0 set ups speed decay exponentially, with the chance of failure increasing exponentially. so if i do use RAID 0, I will only use 2 HDD, but i dont think its really worth it imo since the storage is cut to only first HDD anyways. but what about partitioning your HDD? I mean in my whole life, i never had a HDD failure so is it really worth going through the trouble of Partitioning your HDD?

You lose all your data if your drive fails regardless if you have a single partition or half a dozen partitions. wait srsly?? well I got mislead info lol so whats the point of partitioning a harddrive then? what i read was that for simple example lets say you bought a new pc, before doing anything else, you partition it to the point where it contains the OS. so now its in 2 parts, 1 volume has the OS (so basically the same as the first day you bought it) 2nd volume contains whatever you going to put in. if the 2nd partition happens to fail, you can back up with the 1st partition. is this all wrong?

Partitioning correctly will give some performance gains, but you probably won't notice anything significant. If security is a big concern, you'd be better off with a separate backup drive. I mean, if one of my partitions started having issues, I wouldn't feel too comfortable storing important files ANYWHERE on that drive. Either way, it's always good practice to run a S.M.A.R.T. diagnostic program (CrystalDiskInfo, for example) to check on the health of your hard drive. (Also, not sure if I understood you correctly, but you aren't limited to the first drive's capacity in RAID 0. 1TB + 1TB in RAID 0 = 2TB. Unless you're talking about unequal capacities, in which case you'd be limited to the smaller drive. 500GB + 1TB = 1TB in RAID 0 [500GB + 500GB])

Hardware-based solutions can incorporate power-loss failure prevent, but a typical end-user solution usually won't. Hardware ones also can run into compatibility issues when you want to migrate drives to a new machine (the solutions are usually proprietary, so you want the same controller to avoid issues, etc.) -- I'm not how much of an issue this is today. Software-based can go from one machine to another and will work pretty seamlessly. I have two drives in an extended drive (like RAID 0) and two in a mirrored drive (like RAID 1). The first set I pulled moved from my old PC to the new one and it picked it up as extended automatically (both W7). I'm not sure what kind of issues you run into across OS versions. I would suspect that if you go the Window approach you will have at least backwards-compatibility (i.e. W7 ones would work on W8, but you'd have issues going from windows to Linux/OSX. There are software solutions that can be used that aren't built into windows, but I haven't touched them. I wrote a pretty in depth post on this a few months ago in the old thread if you can find it.

A friend is buying 16gb of RAM and he has the choice between these two: 1000 NOK ($168) - Kingston DDR3 HyperX NAVI 16GB 1600MHz (KHX16C9C2K2/16) 1300 NOK ($218) - Crucial DDR3 BallistiX Sport 16GB KIT 1600MHz (BLS2CP8G3D1609DS1S00CEU) Is the Crucial worth the extra money or should he get the HyperX NAVI ed? Keep in mind that Norwegian prices are high in general. Thanks in advance ![]()
