Transferring Starcraft 2 to a new computer

Hi all,

I just bought a new computer but I think my starcraft 2 disk is scratched and damaged. Is it possible to just copy and paste the game + document folders from my old computer to my new one without any issues?

Btw, there is a change in operating systems. My new computer runs Windows 7 and my old one runs Windows XP.

You can just DL from Blizzard if you have a BNET account.

Copying the game directly works fine for me. It's quite a bit faster than downloading it, which is another option when your disks are damaged/lost.

Downloading would be the last resort as I'm pretty close to my cap for this month (probably would have to wait about a week or 2 for it to free up).

yea u can easily transfer your copy from the other hdd, u dont need registry files and the document stuff will be generated with your first start of the game. just need to configure your video settings ingame and stuff and you r set.

Thanks for the help all.

I'm about to try it out now. Hopefully windows XP to windows 7 won't mess things up too bad (i know you can't transfer the game files from OSX to windows XP)

Wait, so all this time I could just drag the game folder onto my USB stick and have a backup of the game with me at all time?

I'm not 100% sure but i think you don't even need the Documents folder. It gets recreated then, except you want to have your old replays saved.

Hello Guys, I can confirm that this works.
I had Starcraft II installed on Windows 7 and just copied the Starcraft folder to a new harddrive. I did not copy anything else (no documents, no registry)
I started it in a newly installed Windows 8 (double click on *.exe).
Starcraft just ran the updater and relaunched it. After that, I had to adjust the graphics.
Then I tested the campaign and it worked.

I bought StarCraft II when it came out and installed it on a machine not really capable of playing it. Just recently got a new laptop that can do it, but when I installed the game it's telling me I need to register. I put in my code to battle.net and it says it's in use. I contacted them weeks ago, but have yet to get a reply. Any thoughts?

You can skip that part. You just need to log into your account with the Starcraft 2 license.
