You should be running at native resolution which is 1920x1080 and you need to download the latest graphic card drivers from either AMD or Nvidia and your monitor drivers from Samsung.

Yes, that's the one. Sorry I'm at work at the moment and i can't remember what res I had it at. It was my maximum one possible. If i went a couple lower it would fill the entire screen but it would be not HD, thus horrible quality.

I thought all those monitors were 1080p.

I had problems getting a full screen using Windows 7 (64bit) ATI HD 5770 with ATi Catalyst Control Centre version 10.9 graphics card software! When using hdmi connection scaling issues caused a black 'border' around the screen edges resulting in a 22 inch screen size on it's 24 inch display! To fix this problem for hdmi connection I had install older ATi CCC software version 10.6. Once this very irritating problem is fixed the picture display quality is the best I've seen to date. SAMSUNG and ATI need to speak to each other and update their drivers & software; thus avoiding a lot of unhappy users with this combination of os & graphics card. I have the exact same situation as this person (same GPU, windows 32 bit though). He stated that he actually had to downgrade his GPU software in order to get the resolution to work. I can't really do that as it will probably lead to a hundred more problems with other things. Does anyone know how to get around this some other way? Thanks for the help so far.

My 10 year old 19" had already had 1200px (To be honest it got a bit blurry at that resolution). Still the trend to low resolution monitors still amazes me. My new notebook has a lower resolution than my 4 year old one(800px->768px) Because nearly every form of HD media is in 1080p. If you had a monitor with a resoultion like 2048xXXX it would need to scale and watching 1080p movies, playing 360/PS3, etc. would look bad. It also allows them to just use the same technology (scalers etc.) as they do in everything else. I am a little surprised we aren't seeing 2X or 4X 1080p screens or something similar though with multi screen GPUs getting more and more attention. Even if you couldn't put out 3840x2160 through one connection you could easily connect it to 4 HDMI/DVI connections on one machine. I'm ready for "retina" monitors.

Apple just added Retina there to make it seem like Apple created some special, new kind of display.

If it wasn't then it's probably a little taller than his 23" widescreen, so that seems normal (still pretty good res for your 19" though, mine's 5:4 and still only 1024 high)
